The HT fuse had blown on this Marshall DSL40C - shame you have to completely dismantle the amp to get at it! Follow me as I walk you through the procedure.
im having the same issue with my dsl40c, but the fuses looke fine. any ideas on what else it could have been? thanks for making these videos theyre a huge help.
Hey, I’m googling how to fix my Marshall DSL40c and low and behold you’re in Reading too, what are the chances ! Do you somewhere I can contact you to help ?! Cheers
Very helpful! Did you bias the amp at 40 or 20 watts? And what are the tube values at each setting? I am facing this same issue with my amp. Thanks in advance!
Hi Andrew I'm not certain I entirely understand your question. You don't really bias for an output power, just for the tickover current going through the valves.
hello stuart, i was wondering if you would help me out. i purchased a brand new DSL40 about 5 months ago and i really havent used it a lot however the last two times i have played it, after about 5 minutes or so, it just cuts off. no lights or anything. kind of like i blew a breaker fuse in my house, it just quits, no power. i turn the amp back off and wait a few seconds and turn it back on and it works again. although i dont play very long at that point thinking im going to damage the amp. any ideas or suggestions?
Sounds like something is getting hot in there and the amp is cutting power to save itself.. That or overcurrent protection. Try checking the bias is what I would have tried first.
@@Charlie6969 i didnt think it needed to be biased as it is still a brand new amp with only a few hours on it. i didnt know it was made in Korea though or i wouldnt have got it anyway. i bought a used JCM900 4102 from 1993 and i love the sound and simplicity of it, but i dont want to sell someone the DSL40C if its gonna breakdown on him/her when they bring it home. i got the JCM900 for 500 bucks, and then bought they guys other amp, a 1995 Fender Blues Deville 212 for another 500. i payed over 800 for the DSL. my bad, i should have done my research. i didnt know Marshalls were made in Korea now. Thank you for the video, great information!! Question please: I have the same amp and it is blowing the main fuse by where the power cord plugs in. I replaced the fuse and tried again, the fuse immediately blew again. I pulled the power tubes out and ohmed them out and they appear to be fine, 0 ohms between the heaters (filaments) and no shorts between other pins. My thought is to keep the tubes out and apply mains voltage and see if the fuse blows again, just waiting for fuses to arrive in the Mail.. am I on the right track?
Yes try without valves in but I bet it goes again. If so, and if you are able, disconnet the secondaries from the mains tramsfomer and try again. If it blows again it's the transformer primary. If it doesn;t blow it's something else. Could bhe a short circuit cap. You might need an amp tech on this one!
Hi By secondaries I mean the secondar windings coming out of the transformer. SOmetimes these are on spade terminals. If you disconnect them you isolate the entire mains tramsformer from the rest of the circuittry. If the fuse goes then, it's the mains transformer. You may be coming to the end of what you are able to do though.
Hi Thomas that's a really weird one! I can't think of anything simple which would make it go COMPLETELY dead but then come back on again after a few minutes. My view is this is a non-trivial issue. I don't suppose you're in easy driving distance of Reading? If so I can take a look at it for you, otherwise it's a tech near you I'm afraid. About the only thing I can think of is a dry joint fairly close to the mains input side of things. As the board heats up, the joint opens up, killing power to the amp. Then, as the board cools down, it makes again. Clutching at straws though! Good luck.
I hope this will help me as I blew that fuse last night while gigging. Other than having it over biased or playing for 6hrs straight what else would cause this error. My power tubes were replaced about 60hrs into playing. Is it just a fluke this fuse blew or maybe a power strip surge or power tube on way out?. thanks
@@stuartukguitarampguy5830 Hello, I just changed out the 500ma fuse and it popped as soon as I powered it up. Is it possible that a tube is the cause or more of a severe problem thanks again for your response
Hi Henry. I'm not sure what 5am is. It's not a fuse marking. 500mA is half an amp so the same as 0.5A but you won't see that on a fuse, it will always be 500mA.
Stuart, those haunted sounds are great. You never fail to teach and entertain; Cheers.
Exactly what was wrong with my DSL40C. You saved the day. Thank you sir
Hi David Great news! That's why I do this!
Where are you guys getting the proper fuse replacement?
Thanks so much for this video! I have a 2019 dsl40cr and educating myself on the inner workings of it.
Excellent. Thanks for watching!

Where can i find the correct fuse replacement? T500mAE250V i cant seem to fid a fuse with the E.
The E is not important. Just get T500mA

Is the Hi/Lo switch on the back or the front?
When it goes off, does the mains switch still stay lit but the channel LED's go out?
