    Hung Gar combo with a number of techniques included. We start with an application from Hung Gar famous form Gung Ji. Learn the form first, check out my Gung Ji playlist it has a few versions of this form. We use a number of really dangerous techniques in this combo so please use a lot of control when doing the elbow and the arm break so you don't injure your partner. If you are always hurting your partner, no one will want to play with you anymore and you will become crappy. :(

    Hi brother, I have just started teaching Hung Fut and I have found your teaching style and drills to be very helpful in structuring class drills. Also your clips with the venerable Grandmaster Chiu Chi Ling have given me new understandings of Hung Gar techniques, particularly the crane. Thank you very much for your generosity in sharing your knowledge. Much appreciated. Oly.

      First of all I greatly appreciate the positive comments. It still blows my mind thinking how people around the globe are watching the stuff we post and enjoying and learning from it. I'll try my best to oblige you with a tiger video. Don't hold your breath though. I'm quite busy with a couple of business ventures and I will want to think about this video before putting something up. Unlike some other guys, who just throw things together or make some real basic interpretations of the form, I like to do things in a way that is not only realistic but versatile for an attack from either hand. There is a Jim Carey skit where he tells the student to punch him and then has to tell him "no the other hand" when he gets hit in the face. I try to avoid that so let me think about some good stuff.

      Cheers for that. I know what you mean about practical and realistic interpretations being somewhat rare. I have two vids I put up where I explore the tiger claw from our form and some of the variations I have explored with my teacher and sifu youtube! If you have the time and the inclination I would appreciate any feedback. Cheers again mate! Oly.

    That's an interesting combination you're doing, hung gar and wing chun. seems to compliment each other well. I love that your channel is focusing on the applications. too often Kung Fu practitioners just train forms and go to Kickboxing for their fightings

    I'm pretty sure this isn't mixing wing chun with hung gar, hung gar has long ranged forms and short ranged forms, they do do Kiu Sau but that isn't chi sau, you'd notice some similarities between the two styles because they are both southern kung fu (has more hand techniques) it's like saying if fighter A does Kiu Sau and applies his hung gar and fighter B uses wing chun chi sau then something interesting will happen

    Actually, do we look at each technique individually or in a sequence? There are many videos where these techniques are demonstrated in a sequence. Fighter A does this and fighter B counter attacks and fighter A counters B's counter attack. But the problem is, we can't predict how the opponent to counter an attack or what his next move is. The sequence and moves then fall apart. I'm confused. This seems to be the case for many Kung Fu (no specific style) instructional videos. Please enlighten me.

    You need to understand that chi sao isn't exclusive to wing chun and that wing chun and hung gar are more intertwined than you might realize. Hung gar contains many aspects, chi sao, shuai jiao, wing chun, choy li fut, you need to look more deeply than simple wikipedia definition which says hung gar is this and wing chun is that, choy li fut acts like this... and so on. Do you know who Wing Chun was married to?

    P.S could I request a clip on tiger techniques, if it is not too demanding? Cheers mate! Oly.

      The above post should have went with this comment. As far as the Tiger is concerned, some things to think about.
      1. This style isn't so much a sparring style as so many videos try to push it into.
      2. When you use the tiger. Something you should think about is how if you look at old guys in Hong Kong they will often have long fingernails. No one in the gym will want to practice with you if you have nails like this, but you should think about how you would use this hand form if you had long fingernails.
      3. The hand never comes back empty concept. When this style is used as a sparring style as in 1. you will see alot of non commited attacks. This is wrong for this style, good for western boxing but it isn't the Tiger. Work to come back with something when you strike. ie an arm, a shirt, neck control, wrist control, chin na ect.

    can you plz tell me whats the difference between wing chun and hung gar concept-wise, like is hung gar more long range does it have wider stances???? like whats the angle of defence and attack like in wing chun its redirect 45 degrees from centerline whats hung gar's style?

    • @ultimatekungfu
      @ultimatekungfu  9 лет назад

      Two differences that are easy to explain here.
      1. Wing chun will "sit" on the side you are striking from. Hung gar will sit the weight on the opposing side to generate twisting, opening closing or a combination of linear and rotational power. That's oversimplified but for purposes of a RUclips comment a good start.
      2. Wing Chun will use linear power going out and changing direction like a turret on a tank. Hung Gar will use power going side to side, straight out linear power, sinking, rising, opening and closing, generating power from a greater number of body actions. Again oversimplified but hope that helps.

      ultimatekungfu this simplification concept is very indeed what im asking for i can understand and imagine the purpose of the style, thank you very very much. Hungar is Side to side opening closing while wing chun is LINEAR 45degree redirecting thats a good enough understanding for me :) thank you!
