    Thanks John and Dave for the nice flights of these very capable planes and your both very skilled pilots. I think that your assessment of all the planes in the 60" range is helpful for someone like myself who isn't a 3D pilot but considering a sport plane with light wing loading, high power to weight ratio and capable of getting out of trouble when my brain glitches. Thank you both for taking the time to help our community.

      You are the exact target of this video too. We had a feeling the skilled 3D group might be mildly interested in seeing airframe performance in basic maneuvers, but the advanced sport pilots/novice 3D pilots would benefit from seeing these planes through our lens. I'm very happy you keyed in on this.

      Yeah what John said is exactly right the target for the video was people like you. the Advanced 3D Pilots already know what they want , thanks for the input very helpful.

    Hi guys! I have the Extra and Game Bird. Your evaluation of the flight characteristics is right on par with my own experiences. The Extra pretty much just lands itself. The Game Bird will suddenly drop with no warning a few inches above the ground. The Game Bird has some weird spin characteristics, not that it's a problem. It's taking longer to learn how it flies. My Game Bird has the XPower 22 motor. OK don't freak out, but I modified the Extra to fly on an OS 65AX glo engine! It flies awesome! Because of the engine sound and added weight, it appears to be a larger plane in the air. Momentum from the increased weight actually helps carry the plane through some maneuvers in a more scale realistic way. When spring comes around I'll load some videos on my channel. Thanks guys, Great video! 🙂👍🛩

    Great video John, and well done to both you and Dave. Awesome flying and info! I love the classic look of the Extra 300 and the curves of the GB. Looks like this is the route my fixed wing flying is taking direction, from mild sport to beginner 3D and this video definitely helps to narrow down a selection between these planes!

      Any one of these planes would be a great step up! All are way more capable than my skills and probably make me feel like a better pilot than what I am! I think I would still lean towards the classic lines of the 300v2 and even thou the other planes are rated higher or possible make things easier, it would be more than enough for me. Thanks again for a great review and the different options due to different styles of flying!

    Just getting back into flying, specifically 3D, and just stumbled on this video. Great work but i felt there were some obvious biases....3 extremeflight planes to just one skywing? The skywing Yak54 60" is one of their best offerings and perhaps should have been included to balance things off. Next (although intended) the whole thing seemed to be how forgiving the planes were to the less advanced pilots. Testing ground handling, inverted flight and landings seemed rather pointless for planes like thesethat simply perform when set up correctly. I had my doubts initially but in the end i must agree that yiu arrived at the correct decision that the Edge got the overall highest score. Its the most aggressive XA plane of the lot and not at all for beginners, while the extremeflight offerings are more refined for a wider market Great job there.
    The Edge may have a sharper leading edge that stalls all at the same time, while the tapered wings have a gradual stall transition. Unintentional stalls at low speed is a big no no for pilots...a good 3D plane should easily go in and out of hi alpha without dwelling in the transition, and the Edge is particularly great at that. Lift will be suddenly lost but no tip stall occurs which is excellent. In the end the other factors matter more...like USA vs Chinese company, which brand is cheaper and includes more accessories, and ofcourse which plane you LIKE best. Fun and interesting review. Liked it. 👍

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  3 месяца назад

      The planes weren't bought with the intention of doing a brand comparison. They were bought individually and eventually people who follow the channel started asking for a comparison. Hence the video. I'm also not sponsored by EF/SW, so I get what I want and review what I want. There was no intended bias toward any manufacturer. Since then I've added and removed a number of both manufacturer planes in my hangar.
      If someone were to donate $30-$40k to the channel, I'd try and get one of everything to review. Until then I can only do what I can afford to do. Glad you found the conclusion useful.

    Flat spin exiting a little too low hearing the comments = priceless!

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  Год назад +2

      Yeah Dave got my attention with that flat spin egress. No, no stabilization was used during any of the flights. The stabilizers were off and the remote master gain was turned to zero. This was all pilot.

    Having flown the new 67" airplanes from Skywing do you feel there is still a case for the 60" versions and if so why?

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  11 месяцев назад

      Now this is a superb question:
      1) 67" is slightly larger but it presents much larger in the sky. Point 67"
      2) 67" easily handles 6s5k so flight time is slightly longer. Point 67"
      3) Price delta between the two is marginal, but the 67's are more expensive. Point 60"
      4) Equipment deck on 67" is more spacious, easier to strap batteries etc. Point 67"
      5) Many more options in 60". Point 60"
      6) 67" while slightly larger is no more cumbersome to deal with than a 60". It's certainly NOTHING like the change from 60" to 85" or 60" to 78". Point 67"
      Bottom line: If I had my choice between 67" and a 60" and everything else were equal, I'd take the 67" every single time. If the 67" were not available in the airframe I wanted, I would happily take a 60" as the 60" remains ridiculously capable even in wind.
      Hope that helps. This is my type of question...

    Hello it was a great day a lot of work. we missed Freddy, we could have used a better camera man than me that was harder than flying, chasing John around with the camera. when we were done I had to reassess my numbers and I had already talked to John about that before we started flying because I did not think I could remember the numbers I gave the other airplane and that is why the numbers may look a little different. we did it as honest as possible. as far as us as Pilots we can fly but we are not professional 3D Pilots. My opinion is probably pretty helpful for people that are intermediate to advance sport Flyers trying to get into a high performance 3D airplane. my opinion is based on the first time I ever flew any of these airplanes, flight of four different high performance airplanes flown by a 2 1/2 D pilot plus the airplanes did not belong to me so that carried just a little bit of stress. any of these airplanes on the right hands will do anything beautifully . for me this was first flight, first impression. if I fly each one of them a hundred times I may change my mind I don't know .and I am terribly sorry with you all and John for recording the best flight of the day with the camera off😳🙄😁.
