Dear friends and followers, today I´ll explain the ever so mysterious topic about chemtrails. Do they exist, or is it all just a huge rumour?
I will present 4 different examples of possible chemtrails, with facts if they are true or false. We´ll look at wing tip vortices, wake turbulences, famous contrails in comparison to chemtrails. Black smoke coming out of engines on departures and go-around procedures.
The rumour about chemtrails are spreading with every new idea some came up with, apparently chemtrails are used to manage solar radiation, psychological manipulation, human population control, weather modification or chemical warfare, at least that´s what I found out about it on the internet.
To make matters worse, it causes illnesses and other health problems. And you´re saying it´s all coming out of the back of my plane? Hmm seems very superstitious if you ask me? We never had to sign a document during cockpit preparation stating, “20 tonnes of chemicals have been loaded and are ready for disposal”.
But still, they must be somewhere?
Okay, let´s see if we can find these chemtrails.

I like you Captain Joe, but I'm not convinced. Contrails disperse relatively quickly. The things we see where I live persist in the sky and turn into clouds. They're often positioned at right angles to each other or in other patterns. Maybe you don't have them where you live, but I do. Also, if they were contrails, then I would've seen them my whole life, but these things are new like in the last 10-15 years. This is something different.
older engines didn't have as much a ratio of water to exhaust because they were generally lower bypass- and contrails remain just like clouds where they can stay relatively long up there. a bit of research goes a long way- it's almost impossible for a passenger aircraft to have any 'chemtrail' bullshit because the pilot needs to know everything which is being loaded onto the aircraft

Had a question that I noticed you didn't cover. Why is it that in some instances these trail's literally dissipate after a while and other's do not, they literally linger all day and form to what look's like clouds eventually? I'm not denying anything you stated. I'm simply asking a question in wanting to learn. Thank you in advance...
In conditions of higher humidity, it will take longer for contrails to dissipate. In high volumes of air traffic, this will cause the trails to form faster than they can dissipate, creating the cloud cover you've described.

Back to the facts: I know that for longer than you live.
They used silver-iodide for the first experiments as condensation kernels - to generate rain and reduce the gravity of hurricanes in assigned missions. But that is costly and legally problematic and was therefore abandoned.
The issue of this posting is the expectation that this is done on civilian passenger aircraft èn masse. And that is not the case as Captain Joe explains.

Let's be clear here about what you are most likely seeing. All aircraft, whether jet turbine or recip will contrail between certain flight levels, based on conditions. If you consider that the whole airmass is moving, what may look like cross-hatching sweeps of "chem trails" is usually just departures and arrivals into the airport about 100-200 miles away from you. An aircraft, especially coming off an air route for arrival past the same land-based navigation aids into the airport pattern a few minutes apart will look like very deliberate pattern of spraying to some, but spraying "chemicals" at 20,000ft plus makes little sense. When spraying chemicals for mosquito control, they spray from about 500 feet, and it looks nothing like contrails. You're ALWAYS going to see these when conditions exist for it, so you may want to look up "cloud seeding methods" or "mosquito vector control spraying methods" or "mass administration thorazine" to see the difference.
the thing that makes me suspicious more than anything is that you see these trails get turned on and off by Jets when they're doing their patterns over a city, normal exhaust tends to dissipate quite quickly but the trail's people notice 10 to disperse very slowly over hours until the entire sky is hazy
Your observation of intermittent contrails only shows that they are contrails. Unless you can think of a logical reason for randomly turning the spray off and on randomly 6-8 miles in the sky? Just to mess with you?
Why does normal exhaust condensation trails dissipate quite quickly? How does that happen when the air is saturated?
Are you equally worried when there is a cloud, then no cloud, then another cloud etc? Well, it is the same with contrails. And as the humidity increases, the clouds become more and more frequent eventually covering the whole sky - and contrails will become continuous and persistent. They are just clouds, after all :-).

I worked for a minibus company that carried airline crews from the airport to the Hyatt Regency. Being a layman, I asked a pilot what was leaking out the backs of the engines and the pilot told me if that were something leaking the plane would be out of whatever it was leaking very fast...maybe just a few miles. He said it is a vapor trail made by the heat of the engines. No trail

Tomas Janik because of relative humidity. Think of the air like a towel. If the towel is dry it can absorb more moisture. Contrails that form in dry conditions quickly sublimate back into water vapor because the air can hold it. Now use a soaking wet towel. How well does it absorb extra moisture? Not very well because the towel is saturated. The same goes for contrails that form in humid air conditions. They persist as ice crystals until the ambient air can “absorb” the sublimated water vapor.

Hello, I live in south-west France, I saw this morning 5 little planes passing, (each leaving one "trail", and there were already other trails in the sky....) they were going in the same direction, one after the other during 11 minutes (i filmed them), is it possible that planes pass so "close", every 2 or 3 minutes ? Thank you !
Look at the departures/arrivals board at some major airport and you have the answer - well, almost, the cargo traffic will not be there.
The minimal horizontal distance between planes at the same altitudes given by the separation rules is about 9 km in the general controlled airspace, meaning, you can see planes flying by the usual cruising speed separated by only just over 30 seconds. Close to airports (terminal airspace) it drops almost to a half.
You can also find the information on ADS-B tracking sites like FR-24.

Persistent contrails aren't less or more rare among contrails than it supposedly was "before chemtrails". At most there are more of them because of the augmentation of aerial traffic.

Ive personally seen this stuff in real time near Cape Canaveral over the ocean. I have pictures documenting the entire process. Went from a perfectly clear day, to rows in the sky that dispersed over the course of about 30 minutes and stayed in the sky for hours. It left a thick haze in the entire sky that reflected all sorts of rainbow colors. Call me crazy, but even my gf who knows nothing of the phenomenon even commented how funky it started to smell.
Weather modification exists and is a known fact that was used in the Vietnam war named Operation Popeye. Cloud seeding exists and is used daily still around the world. NASA even can generate rain storm in their Mississippi facility where they test rocket engines.

There is dumping of things like dry ice and other chemicals to made raining -> so called cloud seeding. It was used for example in Beijing olympics event, all around Bejing planes sprayed chemical from few km so that there would be no rain over olimpic city and to dump all contaminated things in air into sewers.
But such occasions are very very rare and're monitored very well. Well even number of planes that can do this is very very small.
In war it is possible to use some (military)planes to do cloud seeding. But generally You don't even need planes to do that and it's also a thing that happens naturaly anyway.

I live near Cleveland, I’ve watched these planes for hrs at a time, they always do it just south of Cleveland a little to the east maybe about 40 miles south east of the city, when they do it the trails always end up being parallel to each other and crossed, it lingers in the air for hrs until it forms what looks like clouds or turns the whole sky into like a fog 🌫 🌫 🌫 🌫 🌫 🌫 🌫 I’ll see like 3 or 4 planes at a time super high up then they vanish I’ll start noticing other planes then they kind of vanish and so on, I know they are not going to the airport because I live super close to the airport and I know the commercial flights take off and landing route because they literally fly right over me, wtf is this crap already

Funny how in the northern California valley there will be no contrails for months. Oh, there are always jets flying over with a contrails that last maybe one minute at the most, but no long lasting contrails for months on end. And then just one day out of all those months, they’ll be multiple contrails that last all day. Isn’t it interesting how the meteorological conditions are just right for that for just that one day out of several months?

The company spraying us in the Midlands, England is a company called 2 Exel by East Midlands airport. A typical airliner is releasing about 15 liters of water per each mile of its travel. This is not enough to create a visible cloud. What you see is condensed (or more accurately, "deposited") supercooled ambient moisture that "snap-froze" due to the action of the engines - that includes them adding extra water. A visible contrail contains less than 0.1% of the water from the engines.

There is a certain irony in the recent complaints about the more persistent contrails in the sky. They are due to the development of the high-bypass turbofan engine which started to replace the turbojets in service a few decades ago. The turbojet uses thrust generated solely by the expanding exhaust as a means to propel the plane. The exhaust gasses exit at high velocity and high temperature, and therefore are widely dispersed by turbulence before cooling sufficiently to condense into a large, but mostly transparent contrail. In contrast, the turbo fan engine uses the exhaust gasses to mechanically drive a large fan at the front of the engine to generate the majority of the thrust. As the exhaust passes through the additional turbine disks needed to drive the fan, it slows in velocity and cools, so that when it exits the rear of the engine it can condense more quickly into a thick contrail. In addition, this central core exhaust plume is surrounded by a thick layer of cool air from the bypass fan which helps to contain the water vapor, thus enabling it to cool faster while the water molecules produced by combustion are still in close proximity. The irony comes from the complainers not realizing that turbofan engines are 50% more fuel efficient than turbojets, so the appearance of persistent contrails is a "better" thing. But hey, why let simple physics get in the way of a good conspiracy.

Mate, the cost index it's simple to understand. it's the relation between fuel eficiency and speeds. The higher the cost index the higher the speeds but also the higer the fuel consumption. Imagine that you put a cost index in the fmc of 30 then your cruze speed will be Mach 0.70 but if you put a cost index of 35 your speed will be 0.72 (pay atention, this values are just for example and not in reality). The FMC (flight managment computer) will manage the speed and fuel consuption according to the cost index. But i believe that Joe will maka a video about that.

I also have a few questions that I just can't find a plausible answer to: Why do contrails almost always form in front of the sun? Especially at sunrise and sunset? and why is the sun no longer able to dissolve them? I can well remember that something like this never existed more than 20 years ago. Contrails appear in front of sun only if they are in the straight line between the observer and the sun. Move the the observer (move your ass :-)) some distance and - the contrails will be somewhere else. It is called "perspective" :-).
The rest of your questions is just a basic meteorology. Contrails are clouds and behave that way. Look up why sometimes clouds hang around for ages and other time dissolve in minutes and you have all your answers. The statement "something like this never existed more than 20 years ago" is totally false. The laws of physics haven't changed for the last few billion years.

Currently, the spraying is still going on every day. People seem to be oblivious or just don't care. I'm in New Jersey and miss seeing normal sunshine or normal storms of any kind. The people in charge of the spraying have gotten better trying to hide what they do. The trails can now be formed in short bursts with a mixture that produces a single puffy cumulus cloud to really make people think this is real. But the mixture is made to expand the cloud into a large one. Eventually, the sky is so full of the large ones anyone paying attention would tell you they look ridiculous.....nothing Nature would make. And then they clump together to cover the blue sky behind them. Spraying in rows that expand looks silly, but hard to watch because they expand to form a solid layer so quickly you miss the process. There is information online about what tests have shown the clouds are made of. I can't imagine how deadly all of it is. Metals like aluminum, barium, and others and lots of other substances so small are all sprayed to enter our lungs. Recently graphene has been found too....sound familiar? I should have said graphite, the other name for deadly poisonous lead. Added here, April of 2023.

In the older low bypass jet engines like used on the AWACS, the exhaust is black because fuel is used to cool the turbine blades, on the newer high bypass jet engines, the use more air and less fuel so the exhaust is cleaner.

Only earlier aircraft like the AV8B Harrier with the Rolls-Royce F402-RR-408(Mk 107) used water injection to give it more thrust and in the case of the Harrier it used 75 gallons of distilled water. I know in 1986 at the Trenton Air Show at CFB Trenton, Ontario, I helped the Marine ground crew fill the Harrier at the Air Show. The problem was the people in charge wouldn't let them move the Harrier to a concrete ramp, so when the started it on the paved area, it set the oil in the pavement on fire when they applied full, water injected power. Jet engines are designed to use the air moving by the engines to keep the temperature down to around 800 F during flight.

The envelope of atmospheric conditions in which contrails form is quite narrow. Even a few meters can sometimes make the difference between the "right" conditions (especially relative humidity) and the "wrong" conditions. Look up images of "flat cloudbase" where you find a perfectly flat and sharply bordered layers of air - one containing dense cumulus clouds and the lower one completely free of condensation. Nothing unusual. Why do you find it strange in contrails, that are nothing else but clouds?

None except for contrails, which are solely and entirely the source of the 'chemtrail' hoax. And, of course, contrails are not "sprayed", but just for clarification. But yes, contrails do often end up being long, white plumes behind high altitude aircraft, they very often remain in the sky for many, many hours, they often grow in mass through accretion, and they indeed can muck up the sky into a cloudy haze. Your problem is, you don't know what contrails are. Admittedly, it is not explained thoroughly too often.
Most people live under the impression, they see the water from the engines. Wrong. The engines produce too little water to make a visible track. That's why you don't see any contrails if the air is dry (RH below 70%). Contrails become visible only in ambient air of RH over 70% where the water (and some impurities in the exhaust gasses) triggers a deposition (the opposite of sublimation) process and the supercooled ambient vater vapors snap-freeze. This results into formation of a cirrus cloud (cirrus aviaticus) where only less than 0.1% of the material is the water from the engines. If the RH is really high, the deposition becomes a chain reaction spreading over a wide area. The result is perfectly natural cirrus cloud cover no different at all from any other.

There is dumping of things like dry ice and other chemicals to made raining -> so called cloud seeding. It was used for example in Beijing olympics event, all around Bejing planes sprayed chemical from few km so that there would be no rain over olimpic city and to dump all contaminated things in air into sewers.
But such occasions are very very rare and're monitored very well. Well even number of planes that can do this is very very small.
In war it is possible to use some (military)planes to do cloud seeding. But generally You don't even need planes to do that and it's also a thing that happens naturaly anyway.

these additives are added, to make sure that the fuel gets to the engines as a fluid, not as ice lumps.

1 kg of burned jet-fuel gives 1.4 kg of water - and that water, when condensing, is the reason for the white trails following a high flying plane.

I'm in my mid 40's. I just wanna know while I was growing up, why I never saw tic-tac-toe streaks in the sky that stretch from horizon to horizon and hang there all day and slowly spread out into a thin milky haze? Didn't start seeing these regularly until somewhere around 1999. And people from many countries still report no such thing in their skies. Clearly this is a relatively new phenomena which explains why many people are now taking notice. I suspect it's coming from an additive in jet fuel that is harmless to the engines, which would also explain why pilots know nothing about it. What the purpose is I don't know. I have heard that it's an attempt to help combat global warming by reflecting a portion of the suns radiation back out into space.
People are noticing because it has become far more prevalent due to an exponential increase in air traffic and crucially routes flown.
Coincidentally, 1999 was when the chemtrails conspiracy theory began in earnest through Coast to Coast AM and subsequently spreading across the internet . The conflation with geoengineering is due to those on the coattails of this attempting to vindicate the claims by claiming that research into Stratospheric Aerosol Injection is confirmation of chemtrails. To clarify, the chemtrail hoax that this video is debunking is the claim that large white plumes in the wake of commercial aircraft that the rational recognise as contrails are evidence of chemical spraying. If SAI was underway this would be at double the altitude and would be invisible to the ground based observer. It certainly wouldn't resemble a large white cloud out of the rear of a commercial aircraft.

I watched three planes work in unison one hot summer day. By the end of the day there was a checkerboard in the sky above the city. I watched them fly south in a tight triangle formation. The planed being the same size from my perspective. The two outer planes had ‘trails’ behind them going back at least 50 kms. The lead plane only had a contrail that dissipated quickly. There were also two black helicopters flying into and then out of the ‘trails’ …… so maybe you’re a pilot and you know some things but you don’t know anything about chemtrails. The only people that do are the scientists doing the research.

Or the rain water where they claim there should be no elements measured, forgetting that dust is 8 percent aluminum in average and acts as nucleation for rain drops and gets absorbed by the rain drops as they fall? Or the air sample tests where they forgot to factor back in the volume of air and only measured the particulate ratio in the dust? All of the samples show normal levels for what are being tested once you find out what was actually being tested and ignore the deceptive limits they compare them to that are irrelevant to what is being sampled.
“If there was a court of law they would be found guilty” ... that was already tried multiple times. They were laughed out of court for not having any evidence. That’s generally what happens when you try to present a smoke screen to scientifically literate individuals who critically think through information instead of just gullibly believing it.

If there is a strong tailwind in a certain corridor track, I can image a pilot taking the throttle back to save fuel consumption.
This may appear as if the contrail suddenly has stopped, whereas the circumstances allow for such behavior, like a sailboat or bird.
Then after a while the throttle is gradually increased and the contrails become visible again
While technically possible, the vast majority of intermittent contrails are results of aircraft flying thru alternative patches of dry and humid air without any changes in thrust setting.

@@victorvastel8028 Legit reasons to adjust thrust are there all the time. In a normal cruising mode however, these adjustments are usually small, and autopilot takes the care of them. They are not likely to make the difference between contrail being formed or not. It does can happen though.
Powering down to idle is also normal, and it normally takes place only while initiating descent to a lower FL or landing. It is, obviously, likely to stop contrail forming but it happens much less frequently than the mentioned before changes in ambient atmospheric conditions.
"Total interruption of fuel supply" (shutting down the engine) however is always a part of some emergency procedure and nobody wants to do it - too much paperwork afterwards.🙂

zero chan again do you realize even if they left the pilots ignorant how many grounds crew would wonder why there is a secret tanker that adds a special liquid to the plane? Hi captain Joe! I am glad you made a good video to help dispel this conspiracy theory. However, as your videos have a very high technical accuracy standard, I wish to add some mentions to the info in this video:
1. The first category you show is not exactly a wingtip vortex, it is a vortex generated at the end of the flap on the B734, based on the pressure difference, and hence the lift differential, between the inboard wing with flaps deployed and the outboard wing that has ailerons. Due to the high speed and low static pressure inside the very powerful vortex, the air can drop under the dew point and condense, thus the vortex core becomes visible. Also, there is condensation above the wing.
2. You correctly identify contrails, the trails due to condensation, but they only in small part due to the heating of the air. The combustion of jet fuel, any hydrocarbon fuel for that matter, breaks down hydrogen and carbon bonds through oxidation with atmospheric oxygen to release CO2 (or CO, carbon monoxide if there is not enough oxygen) and H2O, water vapour. It is this water vapour, released in very high quantities, that condenses. Basically you get small clouds. Their formation is temperature dependent, I have seen videos of airliners in Siberia in winter leaving contrails as they take off from the airport at -40°C in very dry air
3. You are mostly correct about the E-3A AWACS exhaust, it is engine smoke. Early turbojets and turbofans have combustion chambers with uneven distributions of air, fuel and temperature, so areas appear where combustion is incomplete, forming soot particles (Ruß auf Deutsch). Also, high temperatures in combustion chambers of jet engines and certain diesel engines cause atmospheric nitrogen to bond with oxygen, forming NO and NO2, so called NOX. It is an extra source of pollution and were the topic of the Volkswagen pollution scandal in the USA.
4. I would have liked you to underscore the economic nonsense that a massive spraying campaign using airliners would have. I mean weight is a very important issue. Every passenger of a low cost airline knows that. Soooo....how anyone can afford to take a couple of extra tons of spraying chemicals onto their A320 is nonsense. Aircraft contrails do contribute to a cooling phenomenon called global dimming, but that helps diminish the effects of the greenhouse gasses. But that is a side-effect, not a main cause.

How did you determine altitude? Where are they in the sky? How much time has passed between? In some cases, what’s the size of the planes and engine types? All of those play a factor into how much water the plane is producing and the ambient atmospheric conditions where the plane is flying at any given moment.
