I didn't claim they improved anything. my point is that they can't charge us for a life stage like babies when they didn't charge us for the life stage of a toddler. also, it would be so wrong IF they charged us for the life stages of Sims. That needs to come embedded into the base game, and logistically speaking, it would make no sense to separate them from the base game

On Twitter, someone pointed out that the pack being released coincided with the quarterly earnings report. If they had delayed it, they would have been missing that "income." By putting it out, they had income to report (even though the income from this pack and future packs is going to be down compared to what they eventually would have been since people are avoiding it and may never come back.)
C-suites tend to look more at short-term earnings than long-term probabilities. That short-term thinking is not good if you have a long-running franchise.
As the packs become more numerous (as is discussed in one of your quotes), there really needs to be an increase in QA assessments, not a decrease such as those you mention.
I still want to see MWS compared to a game pack that has a world as well as complicated gameplay (such as Vampires.) I did screen shots of Vampires. I just have to get my "round tuit" so that I do the analysis!

I think that because of the pandemic they had to pull back on making gameplay heavy packs (because they take more time and resources). But they also needed to continue to bring in income. Kits (except for gameplay kits, as Bust the Dust shows) are easier to make and require less in the way of checking for inter-pack integration than packs. Now, I have Dine Out and it's one of my favorite ways to play in Sims 4 - I love playing restaurant owners and customizing a restaurant to that sim's taste (literally). Other than long wait times on serving, I don't really have many issues with Dine Out. It's playable for me as long as I have a bit of patience.
The glitches I've seen in My Wedding Stories (along with a whole host of other subjective reasons about the type of gameplay) just have me not wanting this pack in my game at all - not currently as it is and definitely not at the full USD$20 price point. I just think... $20 is about a week's worth of my groceries, so yeah. Interesting video Erin. The fact that Gurus are poking fun at the bugs in their products shows to consumers that they really don't care. It's one thing to poke fun after a problem was fixed, but many players shell out hard earned money for this game and DLC. I see two possible outcomes for simulation games: one, interest dies out (highly unlikely) or two, another company controls the market on these types of games. These problem at E.A. is also going to hurt sales on TS5 when or if it comes out. Have a great day.

I feel like this might be a reference to something else. There actually was a ‘dancing plague’ case of mass hysteria wherein people couldn’t stop dancing and danced until they physically couldn’t anymore.
Also: it wouldn’t be the sims team that we should point fingers at necessarily. A lot of this undoubtedly comes down to EA as a whole and the pressure/restrictions they put on their devs.

Not only that but with their "better to dance poorly than not dancing at all" it feels like they are trying to say better to have a DLC than no DLC at all. But I'm sorry but no. If you want my money, I want value for my buck, and with the the Sims 4, I feel this hasn't been the case since launch. I mean there are some packs that have that value, but those are just a handful. And over the years, the Sims team made bad decisions from bad decisions.
And I think the bug jokes show great insensibility to the community. EA hasn't even apologized, and lets face it, they probably won't, so joking about bugs is in my mind unsavory and they should have known better.

    • @bookcat123
      @bookcat123 2 года назад +3

I mean… “better to dance poorly than not dance at all” is exactly the kind of cheesy express-yourself message Sims keeps using in marketing. And then the “dance like an inspirational quote” pokes fun at that. I think it’s a stretch to say they ever meant this to apply to DLC quality.
The only part that actually references bugs is the “if you don’t stop dancing, it’s probably a bug” part. And as that’s not actually a bug I’ve heard of in game, and was likely written well before release, I think it’s just a joke. One that unfortunately aged poorly quickly because they didn’t get the pack working before the release date.

Sadly, I think they have a major problem in their testing process and delivery planning. In the interview, when they say "...but another fix came after testing and a bug appeared without being noticed..." : when you add a fix, you have to test again the whole game to check if it doesn't add bugs. That's what I ask to my dev team when we make fixes on a program, that's what should be done on the sims too. And if it's time consuming to do the whole testing again, then the problem is the planning and it should be fixed so the team has the time to do it. EA has a lot to answer for with the state of the game. I can't even open the game anymore these last few months because it's too slow and buggy... which makes me sad because I was so excited for MWS.

Roast away, Erin! There isn't a single flame here that isn't well-deserved, especially since they are still trying their best to sweep it under the rug and not have to acknowledge what happened.
Remember when Journey to Batuu was announced and the community was so unhappy that VP Lyndsay Pearson released a letter to the community acknowledging that people weren't happy and reassuring everyone that they were listening and were aware that they were not delivering on some of the things the community was asking for? THAT is what needs to happen here.
Someone high-ranking needs to address the community, period. If this does not happen, and they are unable to acknowledge that this situation is unacceptable and should never have happened, I really can't see myself feeling motivated to purchase more packs.

I imagine the decision to release a broken pack came down to money and a decision higher up to do it. In no way did they care about the customer experience and that upsets me. Carl's Sims found issues in the code right away and made a mod to help with some of them. If he could do it, why couldn't EA? I feel like the more people make jokes and say oh it is just the Sims, oh it is a glitch or bug and accept it the more the message is sent that people will just buy whatever they come out with in whatever state it is in.

I understand the frustration of the community on the game play aspect of this pack. Consequently I haven't purchased it yet although I fully intend to. I've also stated previously that weddings are a single slice of storyline in the perspective of life events that have about the same game time duration of the mermaids in island living. You can only swim around so much before it's time to move on in the story. The real value of the pack like vampires, realm of magic etc. is the variety of objects and interactions relevant to "life" in general and so they belong as extensions to the base game. The fact that I can't have a baby at hospital or get the scientist's invention machine to spin and whirl smoke like it did or place the scientist's shower without it causing an exception doesn't keep me from enjoying the rest of get to work. My point is, capitalize and enjoy the objects of the game pack and really enjoy it when EA fixes the problems. For the money per object in the pack it's still a sweet deal -- IMO. Fixes will come.

I agree with everything you are saying. I have to be honest - I love Sims 4. I love the aesthetic (even over Sims 3, despite the open worlds). I'm more patient than most with issues around Dine Out, Island Living, etc. just because I've been playing my save game for over five years and as sappy as this may seem, my Sims are like my tiny creations at this point and when I need to escape from how stressful the world has become, I dive into their lives. This is important to me and it hurts my heart that we're supposedly just okay as a community to throw all that away. However, I am becoming so disappointed with new EA releases that I'm seriously considering not buying any more DLC and just playing the game I already have. If all future DLC will just break my game more, what's the point? And I'm not willing to put this same level of investment into Sims 5 if EA is fine with content eventually breaking.

There is definitely a difference between a few bugs or glitches being in a game when it's released, (sometimes a team won't catch them when they're testing so they aren't aware that it's an issue until it's released to the public and a lot more people are playing with it), and the pack being unplayable. The descriptions of these items tell me that the team was aware and probably bitter about not having the time they needed to fix it. Somebody saw the bugs and told the devs that it didn't matter and other things were more important, like the art. I can't know who exactly that was, but it's getting more and more obvious that while the team has more creative freedom, the priorities have been shifted and the devs don't have as much power. They weren't even allowed to address anything on social media until a week after the pack was released. I can see that the devs are losing their motivation and probably won't be sticking around much longer if they can help it.

On Monday, EA's official account on Twitter tweeted out "Here’s your reminder to: Have a good breakfast, get your steps in, drink your water." The comments to that tweet are overflowing with people angry about major bugs and problems across all games. The "jokes" in the dance floors and the repetition of it really feels like this might be a motto or something that the team is being told by higher ups. "It doesn't matter if it's perfect, you just have to get it done." "Don't stop working on this until it is done." Then the team knows it's broken so saying "If you can't stop maybe that's a bug" because they're being told it doesn't matter and keep working, doesn't matter if there's a bug. That's what it feels like to me, anyway. I don't think it's a joke so much as it's a complaint from them about what is happening.
Saying they will hold a release date is probably something they want to do. Doesn't mean they're going to be allowed to do it. I wish they would have pushed MWS release at least 1-2 months or more to fix it first.

This whole thing is messed up. As a consumer I would never tolerate buying a TV that won’t turn on. The Sims team still got their pay check. EA still got paid. The consumers. Well we all bought a game pack that does NOT work and there was not even a hint of a disclaimer prior to purchase saying that what we are buying will not meet our expectations as the ongoing (still ongoing) advertising would have us think. They said NOTHING!! Took my money and sold me a product out of the scratch and dent bin at FULL PRICE and when I tried to contact them about my broken purchase I received SILENCE. THIS IS HORRIBLE. TBH This, to me, reflects a state of rot internal to EA I keep thinking about what happened with Battlefield 2042, another title of theirs that recently released in such a poor state that Steam overruled its longstanding policy on refunds to give people their money back.
EA has been hated a long time at this point. I've been playing their games since the early 90s and they have massively lost sight of what drives a title's success: player satisfaction.
It makes me so sad that we've gotten here. I already had feelings about Sims 4 because of how it launched (I've been salty for that long) but this is...ridiculous.

But The Sims in general is so buggy and problematic, beyond Sims 4. I'm on day 3 of carefully reinstalling and setting up Sims 3 using player made guides (because depending on how you install store content it can uninstall itself not to mention the nearly 600 missing stencils from store and pack content), then I'm going to start on Sims 2 and refresh myself on the dos and don'ts because you can easily and unknowingly corrupt the game. It's just a giant reminder of why I was hesitant to get behind Sims 4 because this is crazy.
I love these games. They're fun to play when they work, and I know they aren't easy to make but the quality defintiely could and should be better. I really hoped when Sims 4 came out it'd be better but it seems like it's only gotten worse. I hope Sims 5 will be better too but I'm not expecting much.

But after seeing more of the sims 2 I realized that yes they added different features in Sims 3 and 4 but the Sims 2 was clearly made with more care. There was a lot of effort put into it from animations to storylines. They went from Sims and made it so much better and into Sims 2. Ok so the part of the interview saying that the variety of combinations of packs complicates quality testing is concerning to me. That along with the mindset you can not fully integrate packs from the past in new releases because of the potential of bugs for those who do not own everything ( which is valid because if there was pack integration with if/else testing for packs then those delays while the game checks for what options to offer to players can seem like lag as it runs through the list of what is installed before offering options) are valid reasons for pushing for a subscription service like game where they have more control over what is included in the game upon load universally. It's terrible for those who pick and choose their packs based on personal beliefs and preferences but from a quality control standpoint switching to a subscription-based platform makes sense.

I know whoever writes the catalogue copy is not the same person that codes the items, nor are they the person in charge of setting the price for content. with the interview and jokes and how they normally "handly" the problems we can see which without any doubts the dev team really have they "dirty hands on it too" and in the end you really don't have any victims because again in the end even the fans are to blame for the current poor state, which as you told it just gonna get worst since they are using a really poor developed base game engine, which get more "bloated overtime with many bloated and poorly tested codes.
without any doubts the only hope for the sims franchise is competition otherwise be ready to have a load screen to go to bathroom or when woohooing or have a toilet dlc , because you know they "must make the game most accessible possible to run in calculators and sell the endless dlc as fast and cheap as they can.
