Volko... One of the best gamer designer out there on the market!!!
It was an honor having him on the channel. I greatly enjoyed the conversation.
Thanks for this fantastic interview Mike - great to hear all this information on the game!
My pleasure, thanks for stopping in and I'm glad you found it helpful. :)
@@ZillaBlitz I was already interested, but this video got me "all the way" interested!
Really enjoyed hearing about the evolution of the game, and effort that the developer has put in to get the balance right.
Volko is a bright star in this field and I love to hear how he thinks about games. :)
This is pure coolness made boardgame!!! Really!!!
I've had a lot of fun playing it and it's the type of game where it'll play very differently depending on how your opponent plays. Some fun 2-player intrigue, and I look forward to playing it more. :)
Great interview, both of you are wonderful personalities in the hobby. Keep bringing the goodness!
Thanks for the kind words, glad you liked it. :)
Excellent interview and what a cool game. I wish all interviewers were as prepared as you are.
Thanks, to be fair, it's not always possible to play the game before the interview, but this time I was fortunate to be able to do so. :)
A fine interview and an insight into the game. Many thanks.
Thanks for stopping in, Coyi! Glad you liked it. :)
In my mind the discussion about searching and not knowing where your opponent is even looking has great applications for a game on cyber warfare. I would love to see a Ruhnke design on that. Or any kind of modern espionage. I love the historical games too and will definitely be picking this up.
I agree. I think this opens up so much possibility, fun to think how this might be carried forward. :)
@@ZillaBlitz I would love to see a great commercial hobby design simulating cyber warfare. I agree that you would need clever mechanics to cover gathering of information on your opponent that your opponent then would not know you have. A successful design would require a marriage between game design and more than the usual technical expertise (which I sure don't have!).
I appreciate the channel. I've bought several games based on your reviews. So far I have no complaints. I'm getting to the point where I have five games I haven't even gotten to, but the hobby is fun and not completely subverted by modern activism like so many forms of entertainment are. I'm wrapped up in some non-war gaming stuff at the moment but I hope you will do a playthrough of saving south vietnam. I was waiting for that and I don't think it happened.
I'm glad you're finding the channel helpful! Here's the link to the Save South Vietnam playthrough:

@@ZillaBlitz I'll watch it today. I've been trying to get myself motivated to break open my games rather than playing the same one a dozen times. Thanks again.
@@ChannelName-fm2pt I hope you enjoy it, have fun! :)
Ah, I note George Thomas and John Mosby behind Mr. Ruhnke.
Nice catch. :)
@@ZillaBlitz And one of them voted.
I’m very late to viewing this but a timeless interview other than the last couple of minutes, so thank you for this. Somehow this game fell off my radar and I missed the KS but I reached out directly to Kevin Bertram last night and he’s found a way for me to late pledge at the end of the month (waited for pay day here). Despite not having a regular second player ( I mainly solo) this is a must buy game. As always I appreciate your content - thank you
Do you have the buy me a coffee function available to supporters?
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it and that you were able to get in on the Kickstarter, that's great. :) And yep, there is a buy me a coffee link in the video description. Thanks for stopping in! :)
Not being solo I gotta pass although I like the theme. But...already a P500 sucker on Coast Watchers!
Definitely a game that's dialed into making the 2-player experience shine. :)
@@ZillaBlitz And this is the right outcome: I would not want a solo player to buy Hunt for Blackbeard and find it's just an OK experience. So we scrapped our solitaire ideas that were not really delivering on the point of the game.
A similar game is Fury of Dracula from Fantasy Flight Games, right?
I've not seen that one before, it looks fun, though. :)
@@ZillaBlitz Yes! A great game that has seen quite some refinement over multiple editions. As in Hunt for Blackbeard, the hunters in Fury of Dracula need to watch out because their prey can fight back when discovered!
Blackbeard (Ray Stevenson)!!.... HBOs 'Black Sails' was at once the best pirate video and the worst ending of a mini series in the history of television.
Haha! Worth watching?
@@ZillaBlitz yes except the ending was.......(ill tell you if you don't mind the spoiler alert)...
I'll probably watch it, actually. I've just added it to my "Media to Consume" pile. :)
@@ZillaBlitz EGGcellent....remember Pirating was legal if you were a privateer...
You better get on it...its 10 years old.

A cautionary tale....
I had a friend named Zack..smart cookie redhead worked at Pratt&Whitney where my dad worked.
He had the most beautiful wargame collection I've ever seen worth over $100k.
I said 'Zak how many of these games have you played?'
'About sixteen' he said....
Sidebar- I used to have about 200 games gave em all away when I got married, now I have about six...all given to me.
