Boruto added that They have already had this conversation before with Shikamaru but Shikamaru forgot about it. Boruto told him only way to get around this is if Shikamaru trusts Boruto regardless of the fact that Boruto is actually in Kawaki's place.

I feel like the situation rn is a Naruto nine tails chakra leaking situation, Naruto can suppress is in one tail to 3 tails but couldn’t suppress anymore when he grew four tails and transformed and went on a rampage afterward and hard to get back into control, this could be boruto situation right now. Him activating the karma would probably instantly cause him to switch to Momoshiki and that’s probably what he fears is that if that happens he won’t be able to switch back so easily, and my guess is that but just a theory it will cause a (battle of the mind) type of fight to happen between Momoshiki and boruto
