  • This Sonata was published in 1802 with the title "Grand Sonata", and this wonderful work surely deserves this title. It is dedicated to Prince Karl von Lichnowsky, just like the famous Pathetique Sonata, Op. 13. Ludwig van Beethoven used this sonata as an experimental work, as he uses new material and concepts. This sonata is Beethoven's first that includes pedaling indications. It is also the earliest sonata with Beethoven's autograph (the hand-written manuscript). This final movement of the sonata is in rondo form. Sixteenth notes dominate nearly every measure in this fast-paced piece. This performance is by Grant Smith. Enjoy!

It’s nice to hear this played at a sensible tempo instead of the ridiculous double speed performance where you can barely hear the themes.
