Ladies and gentlemen...the great..the incomparable..the Dehavilland twin otter DHC-6.....this is why I am subscribed to justplanes...thanks again all!! and Viking Air Victoria BC!!
Wow this one is stunning, wish I'd watched it earlier! Anyone else prefer the blue and yellow livery to the red and white? Now for the rest of the video...
Omigoodnessgracious!!! That place is so gorgeous!! I think the Maldives is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Of course, I kinda fancy tropical islands...white sand beaches and turquoise waters... Thanks Just Planes!!
God thanks, that You Tube exists. Where else you should get so precise information and impressions like this. It's like you be there on your own. And yes, he is absolutely right, Flight Radar 24 is great!!!!Wonderful!
Love it!! Would love to see more Blu-Ray's of the seaplanes/amphibious nature. Got the other Maldivian Air Taxi & various dvd's about the flying boats / amphibious aircraft of WWII SUCH AS THE Catalina, Sunderland etc. They're always great to watch, always interesting with the controlling of the aircraft always that little bit more 'Hands On' & a bit more skill evolved fiddling with the throttles to steer on the water etc. I really would like to experience the sensation you get when your plane lands on water instead of a solid runway. Bet it feels strange
Actually there is a difference between flying wheels and floats. The first is the obvious amount of drag your carrying underneath you with floats and pitch sluggishness. But what I noticed most is the feeling of inhibited yaw, that is the aircraft wants to hold itself fairly true, after all you've got two big aerodynamic cylinders under the aircraft inhibiting yaw as they want to essentially keep flying straight. So the float plane has a feeling of being locked in, quite stable or in a rut. With a wheeled aircraft you tend to get less of that feel and with an aircraft where you can bring the gear up you feel even less of it.
I agree with Spencer. Amazing video! And interresting, too. Because you got a captain to explain about the Airline. "Barefoot pilots" ROFL. THEY HAVE NO SHOOES ON!
Great video, do you only fly VFR, or do at times have to fly IFR and to be a part of this flight crew what are the required ratings and hours that are needed. Thanks for sharing....no doubt a dream job
They don't HAVE to be barefoot, But most pilots/FO's and crews choose not to wear shoes, firstly, because Maldives is a hot and very humid country and wearing shoes in an aircraft when its so hot can be very challenging when you start sweating. Secondly, it's mentioned barefoot pilots, not because they are really barefoot, in fact, it is just referring to the barefoot luxury tourism industry of Maldives and these pilots play such an important role in that industry. Hope that explains.

why do they HAVE to be barefoot? Like I see no reason why they can't wear shoes. Seems silly
