I can't tell you how much I appreciate your videos. Just completed my first ground-up build from frame using GRX components. Your rear and front derailleur, shifter, and hydraulic brake fitting videos have been indispensable. Thank you so much for some of the best instructional content next to Park Tool.
I always start with your videos when fitting new derailleurs. They give me the confidence to even begin the process. Sometimes I start, and then get impatient and go to the LBS. But this year our new bike shop owner has boosted the labor rates beyond what is reasonable and I'm committed to become a seasoned bike mechanic. Thanks for putting out what I think are the best videos!!
You have literally saved my sanity. I got a new bike and every time I took my rear wheel off to put it on the turbo trainer the indexing was screwed when I put it back on the bike. Your video allowed me to identify that the cable was slipping as the gripping screw wasn’t tightened enough. It also allowed me to better align the derailleur. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much. I've always struggled setting up derailleurs but your approach made so much sense. I was converting an old 90's mountain bike to a GRX 1x system gravel bike conversion and you saved my bacon. You're a star.
i am preparing to replace my shimano 105 with grx components. i really like the way that he explains this fitting of a derailleur. the presentation is straight forward and easy to understand. so thanks a lot
Just wanted to thank you for both videos on the GRX 810 derailleurs. I've been a Sram guy for about a decade. I got a new bike and it wasn't shifting cleanly. Instead of chasing my tail adjusting stuff, I just started from install. Now I know how everything works.
Thank you very much! I was going nuts turning this screw and that screw and then barrel adjusters. Your video was the reset button I needed. Took the chain off, disconnected the cable and started from scratch…all sorted! Thank you 🙏🏻
Must see video!!! I just switched from 2X Ultegra with a 11X30 cassette to the GRX 812 mechanical and 1X 11X40 cassette. Tried to follow Shimano PDF's and was not getting it; watched this video and was able to set up the derailleur without issue! Great video, very clearly demonstrated. Thank you
Not all hero's wear capes, some make bike videos on RUclips. I have never ever installed a group-set before and with the help of your video's, I felt comfortable to do it. What is the most amazing thing: after pre configuring the derailleurs and putting the chain on, it was almost running perfectly. Thank you so much!
I am preparing a trek 520 "gravelized" and i am so lucky you posted all these videos...otherwise i would be more than desperate! i love how you explain everything and why you do what you do.
Well done & easy to follow. I especially enjoyed your British accent. You sound like a blend of southern Texas drawl & British! I maintain bikes for a lot of locals where there’s no LBS for many miles. Always good to refresh my skills. Keep ‘em comin!
Was changing my rear derailleur cabling on my GRX 812 and watched a few other video's but just couldn't get it to shift properly. Usually it would shift just three sprockets max. Then you explained that I should tighten the derailleur cable much harder than other video's explained and this did the trick for me. After this it needed just minimal adjusting.
a big thank you for your videos! I just built a Ritchey Outback all by myself, first bike build for me. Your videos erased my worries and contributed to a proper bike build up which is working flawlessly. thanks!!
You are an absolute genius mate. I’m building a Kinesis frame up with a GRX 810 group set. Your videos have helped tremendously and cover everything in terms of adjusting. Thank you very much. I will be sure to donate once I have it finished!
Watched both videos for front and back derailleur and perfect! works exactly the same for the GRX 400 10 speed version which I have just fitted. Glad I did as setting up the front one is some what different from what I was used to ! Thank you
I appreciate these videos, I just spent $11,000 on two bikes and the bike shop didn’t set up the front and rear derailer correctly and I live 2 1/2 hours away from the bike shop, so I had to use your videos to get it right so thank you so much!
I am going to challenge your rear derailleur tuning skills and expertise. Okay here it goes. Shimano GRX 810 1x set-up. 40 front ring - 11-42 SLX rear - HG701 chain. Silca Wax So 11-28 cogs shift great with no hesitation or chatter. But going from 28-32 or 32-37 I get chatter for a second before they shift. Strangely enough 37-42 works great too. The chatter is inconsistent and sometimes the shifts are perfect. I have never missed a shift but the chatter really bothers me. I have played with barrel tension with no great result. B screw maybe? bad cog(s) on the SLX cassette? Any hep is much appreciated. Cheers
This is a great guide! I have one question: Are the H and L screws of the front and rear derailleurs completely screwed in or out or inbetween brfore the steels cable ist fixed?
Totally off topic.... My chains suddenly become very slack.... Does the clutch needed adjusting its almost touching the floor when riding... Its a 1x set up 42/11 cassette.... Thanks in advance
Just bought a grx derailleur and between the 2 jockey wheels there's a chain guard/gide and it slightly catches the chain🤔 is that normal? Great video thank you 👍
Do you find that your mech bounces around quite a lot of that b-screw? You can in your video that it's free to swing around on the hanger that screws into the dropout. This is what causes the noise on mine. It's is fine when there's tension on the chain but on a descent when freewheeling it sounds like the bike is falling apart!
Hey, super video! I reworked everything the same way, but I have a question: my cable at the back of the circuit is very stiff and the GRX switchgear can't swing freely like yours. Is that bad? Or should the cable piece definitely be so elastic that you can move the circuit loosely back and forth?
Thanks for this great video. I have the problem, that chain makes noise on the 9th or 10th. When I turn anti-clowise and the noise is gone I have the noise on the 2nd and 3rd by switching up to 11th. I have no idea to solve this problem. Do you have an idea? The bike is almost new. Problem exists since first day.
check if rear derailleur/drop out is not bent on left /right or twisted, it should be straight in both axes, check if cassete is tightened properly , if nothing helps, try with different widenes of spacers between cassete rings, or grind cassete rings that make noise but are not used often
In very rough terrain, when the chain is jumping and could jump to the wrong sprocket, this lever to ON, keeps it from jumping but also makes shifting a bit more difficult.
Got a 2x grx 810 on my new Giant Revolt. Online purchase groupset and bike feel great but in large chain ring and in biggie smalls 11 tooth and maybe the 4 smallest cassete cogs it's really noisy. I thought it was front mech rub but nope. Anyone any ideas?

Great guide. Always to the point. Always bang on with descriptions. A no fluff guide.
Best instruction I ever watched. It is simple yet practical, without unnecessary sophistication.
Agreed. This is the video I watched to install my grx800. Great vid.

Installed a grx 400 derailleur following your instructions! Went absolutely smooth! Thanks a lot
Great video helped me correct a skipping issue due to incorrect HIGH/LO settings. Nice, thorough job!
I always have to recheck a video or guide on the hi low screws any time I go near a derailleur. Nice clear video in this one, thanks

You instalked 11-40t? Not too hard?
I changed 11-42 to 11-51..

Great explanation of derailleur adjustment. Much appreciated
Best video i,ve seen on the subject! Thanks for investing your time in guiding us

I've built up a bike using a Kinesis Tripster frame as well. This guy is a godsend for setting up the gears!
Brilliant video. So easy to follow. I’d messed up my gears but you just made them work perfectly again

Everytime I build I new bike, I need an info or two, and it's always your videos the most helpful. Thank you!
A great descriptive video with clear instructions.
Wonderful video! Again, thanks for helping me fine tune my new bikes GRX derailleurs.

Concise, no fuss. Great tutorials mate
Amazingly clear and very practical instructions, as always! Thanks!
The best on RUclips!
Great video sorted my FD following your video and now indexed my RD to perfection much appreciated 👍🏾
Perfect shifting. Just replaced rear 105 derailleur for GRX on my adventure bike. Your video has some great tips, thank you 🙏👍
Best diy bicycle stuff out here! Awesome work!!!
Another great video - I need to index my rear derailleur. This was just what I needed!
The video, this is, you are looking for!!
All my questions answered. Thank you 🙂
Thank you. Short, informative, straight up to guide video. As usual)
Thanks mate! This saved me a heap of drama.
Super! Extremely clearly described, and well-filmed process.
Brilliant. Exactly what I need to do this week, then front derailleur (I’ll look to see if you did one)
Another fantastic video. Sincere thanks for what you do 👏👏👏👏
This is just clean and concise instructions... and I love it!
great technique and awesome detailed walkthrough, well done!
Thank you for sharing this video. It's very useful. Great! I don't have to go crazy when adjusting my bike.

This is a fantastic and thourogh instruction. Thank you!
Nice job mate!
Brilliant tutorial. Thanks a lot.
Thank you very much! Nice, practical and very clear.

Thank you!!
Thank you so much for such clear and awesome explanations
Thanks!
Great vid. It seems like grx pulley come a bit misaligned out of the box. Did you notice that? Is it normal ?
Cracking vid
Thanks Very Good!

What if one gear is noisier than all the others? What adjustment would be made in that case?
Merci!
Hi there,
I cant adjust the screw on the back for the cable tension? Any tips?
Which chain did you use in the video?
Thanks for this great video. I have the problem, that chain makes noise on the 9th or 10th. When I turn anti-clowise and the noise is gone I have the noise on the 2nd and 3rd by switching up to 11th. what was that On/Off thingy for? Couldn't see you did anything with it
In very rough terrain, when the chain is jumping and could jump to the wrong sprocket, this lever to ON, keeps it from jumping but also makes shifting a bit more difficult.
I’m running thru & thru normal flex shift housing with a short turn into the GRX barrel adjuster. Will this work?
Does the clutch have to be in the ‘on’ position for normal riding o can’t find the bit where you say? Thanks
For off-road riding select the on position, for normal road riding you can leave the clutch off.
My first question is, is there a rear mech with short cage? My 26" mtb with the xt m8000 rear mech looks ridiculous... :P
What’s the clutch for should that always be off?
Got a 2x grx 810 on my new Giant Revolt. Online purchase groupset and bike feel great but in large chain ring and in biggie smalls 11 tooth and maybe the 4 smallest cassete cogs it's really noisy. I thought it was front mech rub but nope. Anyone any ideas?
Does the clutch have a tension adjustment?
Yes!
What can I do wrong when I screw the cable I can't go any gear up or down.
Jaka odległość kułeczka od kasety?
Amazing job! Thank you very much!
Very helpful! Thanks!
Would this be the same process for grx rdrx812?
Yes!
@@FreeToCycle thank you for the videos, saved me so many times
