  • The first in a series on beach fishing on the River Blackwater estuary in Essex (UK). This video covers two daytime sessions on the south bank at Bradwell during winter (recorded on 08.12.21 and 02.02.22). The first session was fished in a strong south-easterly breeze and turned in to a whiting fest; but the second, although less productive, fished differently with an onshore breeze and a dab was caught on an unusual bait. Location, techniques and rigs are covered.

    That brought back some memories of fishing the Blackwater in my youth. Used to fish from the Northern side just short of Mersey Island. Had some good dab days normally right down on the ebb. Also good size flounder and silver eels. Thanks for sharing

    Another deserted beach ! I've had difficulty getting sprats this winter, but fresh herring seems just as good. Don't think I'll be venturing out for a few days- looking a bit breezy on the south coast 🌬🌬🌬

      I believe that dabs will take a variety of fish baits, but I have most faith in sprats. Yes - too windy for me to fish! Thanks for watching and commenting again Rob.

    Just seen this one, well produced as usual. You were fishing one of my favourite marks too👍 The Blackwater is hard going in February, but a few weeks later, say from mid March and that spot is good for Thornbacks!

      Will be back sometime - I used to catch a few codling here. Never really attempted to catch rays, but they are about. Now that you've told me there are plaice here, I'll have to give it another shot late spring / early summer sometime!

      Good question John! Years back there used to be 'Froggy's' bait shed nr Latchingdon, but I don't think that's going anymore. I tend to dig my own lug and pick up other bait when fishing elsewhere. Perhaps another viewer might be able to help and comment here.

    A very enjoyable video and as always very professionally shot and edited. Pity the second session was a bit slow but that dab was a good size and more than made up for the lack of action. I might be mistaken but I believe that stingray have also been caught in that vicinity in June / July. Do you have any information in that regard? Bet you didn't go fishing today (18/2) - a tad windy I think! Take care and be safe. Cheers. Ken

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  2 года назад +1

      Thanks again Ken. Yes, the Blackwater used to produce stingrays, but their capture was normally kept secret and I'm not really sure from where they were caught - rays get caught from the pillbox area to the left of where I was fishing. No, its been far too windy for me this week and I'm out of action anyway for a bit, since I've overdone the fishing the previous week and my right hand has swollen up! Its a time to catch up on editing and scheduling videos, rather than leaving that to the last minute!

      The stingrays if they do show (very elusive) tend to be caught along the north ofnthe blackwater and around to Clacton and Walton. Big Ragworm sausage baits are the key, and have the bonus that if a big bass is cruising past, theyre not going to resist it either
