  • A year ago, Cuba's socialist government allowed 3G internet access on the island for the first time. Although it's still relatively expensive and slow, a growing number of Cubans are going online and signing up for social media accounts.
    Among them are activists who hope to use digital tools to drive rapid change. We've been meeting three of them.

    The internet can bring a lot of good and this documentary show that. Especially the animals being saved and an Awakening happening all over Cuba because of solidarity. I hope they can learn not to be unwise, because when you open that window the bad comes in as well.

      Mr. C Nothing can be worse than Socialism for the last 61 years. I know, I am Cuban I've experienced it.
      BBC should reconsider their priorities. Animal Rights?
      Human rights are non existent in Cuba.
      LGBT rights? Cubans are segregated on the island. Cubans are not allowed into tourist places they are stopped and asked for their papers on tourist beaches, hotels, restaurants and many parts of Habana's designated for tourism.

    Nice video but I missed Yoani Sánchez, fearless journalist who's been using social media way before the 3G technology in Cuba and is being censored frequently because she's actually reporting the repression and censorship. Hope you can feature her some day, if the Cuban dictatorship allows you, of course.

      @@mindtwister1984 do u live in Cuba? I don't think so! US sanctions are not the worst of Cuba's problems sweetie, our big problem is called Comunism, did u know many food we get comes from USA, medical supply with USA labels, and many other things we get from there? Cuban goverment needs United States "sanctions" to justify their bad, wrong and unfair stupid system, I know what I'm saying, I'm from Cuba and I'm tired of they trying to hide 60 years of mistakes and bad desitions pointing at USA sanctions!

      @@Larraii Then why impose sanctions, let the communist system implode by itself. If communism is a failed ideology, u dont need to make it worse by sanctions, limiting US medical supplies, food n everyday necessitites.
      I am not Cuban. AND I know very well how US and its allies appplied sanction can crippled even well run capitalistic societies. Forcing countries to turn to communist countries to get supplies.
      Most sanctions are done to force regime change, and we dont see US sanctions on its own puppet dictator regimes.

    Trump needs to hurry up and get around to having the CIA or DoD bring Cuba American style capitalism along with the freedom and democracy it comes with. Hopefully in 4 years Cuba will be the next Russia (or Iraq) and enjoying all the freedoms, prosperity, and democracy that Russian people have today now that the Soviets were defeated.

      Lol Iraq is a mess now. It happened to be an incredibly open, secular, and wealthy society before the US arrived.

      And how many deaths and how much poverty will a sudden change to capitalism bring? Capitalism is not bad but we need to be careful on how it is brought on. Capitalism in America might not mean the same thing as capitalism in Cuba.

    • @RazorSkinned86
      @RazorSkinned86 4 года назад +1

      @@shahzebkhan1986 There is no such thing as "bad capitalism" or "too fast". That's just propaganda and the only time it doesn't work smoothly is when socialist elements and other undesirables gum up a nations ability to fast track the privatization of resources and infrastructure by creating burdensome and tyrannical regulations. For example, when the United States liberated Chile from a potential socialist dictatorship and elected for the Chilean people a pro capitalism government, the rapid systematic privatization of all resources and infrastructure almost overnight brought about widespread prosperity and democratic freedoms like never seen before. No other system has brought more freedom, democracy, and prosperity to the world than Anglo-American capitalism and privatization.
      There are extensive writings on this topic written by nobel prize winning economist Milton Friedman that I suggest you read to better understand the full benefits of free market capitalism and rapid widespread privatization.

      @@RazorSkinned86 Bad Capitalism exists my pal, it leads to monopolies and decreased innovation and coups which can further hamper democracy and privacy. And Public policies are not like software codes that you can create and deploy overnight then the bug is fixed. It takes time to adopt, mate.
