It's so bizarre for me to watch this because I've read Castros biography and all the struggle and war they fought to gain freedom seems pointless if the country is like this. The people seem like they want to revolt but they feel morally obliged to wait a little longer because of the initial pure motive that Fidel had. Pretty peculiar
The Castros didn't do much themselves. Even if they were not in the picture the Revolution was inevitable. They just started it in the East side of the country but many revolutionary movements were fighting the dictatorship before them. The Castros only took advantage of the situation and placed themselves as the face of the Revolution to have more power over the people. They back stabbed many of the people that helped them.

For an IT guy that can navigate the culture and politics of the country and improvise solutions, it seems like an absolutely fantastic opportunity to work in Cuba.
Google needs to just offer free wifi to them illegally. Being that they are an American company they are out of Cubas jurisdiction and cannot be bothered with Cuban consequences right?
Michael Fisher Someone needs to be in Cuba to set up the wifi. If they just leave it there then the government can just take it down. If they have someone there to protect it then the government can arrest that person.
Michael Fisher Google will work against Cuban interests (not just Communists). it is the big censorship tool on.the internet and its biggest surveillance device.
American media: " Castro hates internet " The reality: The Internet in Cuba is severely limited due to the United States embargo against Cuba. THE UnITED STATES REFUSES TO ALLOW an undersea cable to pass 100 miles from Cuba to Florida. Instead, Cuba's Internet connection is via the ALBA-1 cable to Venezuela, which has had technical problems limiting its speed.
completely false. Cuba does not need a cable from Florida to get internet access. Or from Venezuela for that matter. if the Cuban government would allow ISPs to set up networks there, there would be internet access.
Did you even watch the video? Their problem isnt lag from your hipothetical bad cable with Venezuela. Their problem is the rejection of such cable. Even the presenter who was against cable was saying stuff like "we need to understand our enemies intention before allowing new technology".
Gotta say that while it is terrible that they don't have internet easily available, the point should be made that they are very united as a people. They are also forced to be extremely creative and utilitarian with what they have. There are downsides to easy access. Regardless, they deserve to have that access as an option. Great video, very informative.
They're actually extremely divided thanks to the politics of the last century, but good try. If you're talking about StreetNet, I suppose you could say the collaboration between them was a good thing, but is certainly no replacement for actual internet.
Actually, Castro was really enthusiastic about bringing the internet to his people with the new cable, but when it was finally finished and he went online with it for the first time, he came to youtube and read the comments. For the good of the people, he decided they must never know the horrors he witnessed here.
I know this may sound crazy but I actually think that thats exactly what happened. Just look at what the internet does to people. Lazy, un-motived, consumed, deppresion and even anger. Not only that but all these exessive tv shows... where are the benefits?
every year i visit Cuba to see my grandma and when i go talk to my friends before we play soccer we talk about how Castro ruined some things for the younger generation we think he sometimes just thinks for himself, yh he loves children, yes he saved a child from adoption, but that doesn't mean he will sacrifice everything for the younger generations future he likes how Cuba is now, independent, and we Cubans have gotten use to the system we live in but i think its time for some change, yes i know its 2017 aka 2018 cause the day i'm typing this is on December 31 2017 at 2:53 am but i hope Raul Castro ( Castro younger brother) takes the situation in a different direction, BTW HAPPY NEW YEAR

***** I like how it sounds, but yeah. I've heard that a Spanish speaker from another Spanish-speaking country can hardly understand Cuban Spanish and Argentinean Spanish.
I've always wanted to do this here in The States. I wanted to call it "The Local Netwotk." A network held together by the community built for file sharing. People of the community would chose to be apart of it and everybody within this network would be free to share whatever they wanted. Far from the reach of the FCC, DRM's, MPAA, and all other forms of internet oppression. Inspiring to see this thinking going on in other parts of the world.
I used to work at an airline before the pandemic. Whenever we would fly to Cuba to stay overnight, the hotel we stayed at would give us all a little paper card with a very long username and an equally long password, which you had to enter every time you connected to the internet. It worked for 24 hours, but only the actual time you’d spend online was logged in. When it was time to leave most of the flight crews would give them to the drivers that took us to the airport, and they would be very thankful. If we forgot about them, they would go out of their way to ask us for them, if we still had them.
My Latino people are savvy they make it happen no matter what I wonder if it's better to live in a world that you know you are being controlled opposed to a world where you are being controlled but makes you believe you are not it's one thing to be in a cell and see the bars and physically touch them then to be in a cell and not realize you are in one...

For an IT guy that can navigate the culture and politics of the country and improvise solutions, it seems like an absolutely fantastic opportunity to work in Cuba.
hero flash drive, deserves a medal
Or a monument.
Are you a Cuban?
American media: " Castro hates internet "
The reality: The Internet in Cuba is severely limited due to the United States embargo against Cuba.
Dang, paying 4 dollars for an hour of internet.. And you even have to go outside of your house..
Cuba:created internet connection
NASA: I'm I a joke to you?
How is this funny comment?
@@MidnightBloomDev I don't know.
Sheep. Information, medical care, connectivity, innovation I could go on forever
every year i visit Cuba to see my grandma and when i go talk to my friends before we play soccer we talk about how Castro ruined some things for the younger generation we think he sometimes just thinks for himself, yh he loves children, yes he saved a child from adoption, but that doesn't mean he will sacrifice everything for the younger generations future he likes how Cuba is now, independent, and we Cubans have gotten use to the system we live in but i think its time for some change, yes i know its 2017 aka 2018 cause the day i'm typing this is on December 31 2017 at 2:53 am but i hope Raul Castro ( Castro younger brother) takes the situation in a different direction, BTW HAPPY NEW YEAR
Heat Wave Hi, I am Cuban too but left our island as a baby and grew up in Portugal. I agree with what you wrote. Y que piensas tu de lo nuevo presidente cubano y la forma como fué puesto en el poder?? Me gustaria saber cual es la opinión de otros cubanos porque onde vivo no hay cubanos viviendo. Abrazos hermano ❤
Cuba is basically one giant LAN party.
This is absolutely phenomenal, even through restrictions people still find a way to connect with one another
I would love to have a USB monument in America.
***** United States of America. Probably California where all the tech stuff is.
Although I don't speak Spanish, Cuban Spanish sounds so musical, and different compared to other Spanish Accents/Dialects.
***** I like how it sounds, but yeah. I've heard that a Spanish speaker from another Spanish-speaking country can hardly understand Cuban Spanish and Argentinean Spanish.
Well you're a wooden ball, I'm surprised you speak.

We are highly intelligent Wooden Bowl species, we will take over the world and humans together with it!
+El Osmodivs ... you do not know what you speak off. Cuban litercy is higher than that found in the US... js.
we don't do that, well, the newest generations don't do that, well, a little porcent

The revolution was not socialist, The socialism came after the revolution
at least a single person watching the video knows at least a little bit about socialism
That's the only thing that really annoys me about VOX. They keep missing the fact that M26-7 and El Directorio Revolucionario were not Socialists. >_
Cuban Nerd It's whatever pushes their agenda, it seems as though they want it to look like people wanted the socialist system.
G Arantes problem was they got no other ally against the US.

You guys still gonna tell me Cuba is a perfect "democratic socialist country"
You left the part out of the iron fist rule of Fidel and to a lesser extent, Raul.
No system can thrive when one person is making all the decisions.
Cuba is the first place to have a widespread decentralised internet. That’s amazing.
