Agreed. I tried explaining this to my dad way back when I was first into metal back in the 80's. Metal often uses much of the same elements. I told my dad that symphonic music such as Bach, and Amadeus was the metal of their times. He bristled at the thought but it's true. Many metal artists are influenced by orchestra music. They use changing keys, and the change of timing within pieces. Cliff Burton was a student of music and music theory. Dave Mustaine talks about the fact that without meeting Cliff he wouldn't write the way he does. Metallica wouldn't be who they are without the early influence of Cliff. Man I wish that guy was still alive. I'd love to have seen what he would've done.
I always though metal was the 20th century version of classical music. It's layered. Complex. Can be epic at times. That being said, not all metal suites my tastes. Lol But metallica does it right. It was only a matter of time before they melded it with symphony. The Tea Party played with Calgary Philharmonic orchestra in early 2000s, and it was sublime. The Tea Party truly were the greatest musical act to come out of Canada. Many will say that the Tragically Hip were........... but they never really made a mark outside of Canada. Loved by all Canadians, no doubt, but not necessarily followed by anyone outside the border. Nickleback were huge in the states, sure, but they weren't groundbreaking. They simply had a formula for catchy hitmakers. The Tea Party though. Truly original. Worldly sounds. Odd instruments. Outstanding lyrics and vocals. Second to none guitar work. And sex appeal. If it wasn't for Jeff Martin's megalomaniacal ego, their fuse might not have burnt out so fast.
Ride the Lighting was the first album.. I'm not sound engineer..But that cd had plenty of classical sound to me. Call to Katulu being a great example for me. If you never heard of Vaughan Williams? Check out some of his famous work. Some of it could have been in Star wars. Pretty freaking cool considering the music is from the 1890s. Metal fans go through the same rejecting of style and sound.. I'm back to listening to old school and traditional metal. Because most of 00s popular bands are going sober, boring or sound the same. I think the same can be easily said for all music. But I do know metal is the only music where Fans genuinely don't give a Fuck if you accept or like it. And popularity is not why we are metalheads \m/
that reminds me of the presentation I had to do in 6th grade. I had to present the genre of "symphonic metal" while another group got "metal" as a genre
I'm listening to this song and it brought tears to my eyes. Not because it's sad, it just implodes such a indescribable feeling, it's just beautiful. Ennio Morricone is a genius.
The connection between my late grandmother and Metallica...she loved westerns...especially “the good, bad and the ugly”...and she made me recite that bedtime prayer from “Enter Sandman “😂 I miss her more than words can say.
I love the high note at 2:50 when James comes out! When I saw them in concert I cried when he took the stage. I couldn’t believe my idol was in front of me!
Owwww baby! You should've seen him sexy hot in early 90 with that wilding hair I got to and I wasn't far from stage his guitar said eat fur on it ,! I was a pretty 15 in my short cut off jean shorts tank that's leather tank top ..was in o.c southern ca us girls are sexier hotter wilder in the southern part of ca. ❤️To metallica and metal up america's ass !!!
Listening to rock & metal growing up never appreciating this symphonic stuff, getting old listening to Classical music and loving show themes and finally back to Metallica + Ennio Morricone. The circle is complete.
@@juansebastian2048 but Michael Kamen conducted this version when they toured with Metallica and he also did the treatments for all of Metallicas music...he was an admire of ennio and wanted to include his song as the intro.
Well shit. I wish I could throw two vastly different musical entities at each other and make millions. It sounds like I have my Pip-boy on and I just killed some raiders ... and the radio is on upstairs.
I’m so glad they did this intro with ecstasy of gold. I remember being a little girl like 6 asking my dad to play this. To this day I still absolutely love it
We play this exact recording before every band concert; we turn off the lights and sit in our band room. We just listen and get into the feel of music. This cover holds so many cherished and heartfelt memories. 🤟
I worked all of these shows and the experience was something well beyond amazing! While I enjoy Metallica, I would not consider myself a serious fan, but this run earned my respect of a GREAT group of MUSICIANS!
This had to been a great experience not only for the audience, but for the band themselves! Like... Imagine having shit you wrote for your band be accompanied by the power of an entire orchestra! Turbo charged!
I love you Metallica hope to see you when you're visit San Francisco next time haven't seen a show I'm that city with you all yet . Thankyou for your guiding spirit music that does so much for me .
In 2002 This album was my train up soundtrack before reporting to Tank School at Ft. Knox Kentucky. 12 years of service and counting. It's still epic after all these years.
I love when James "goes Metal", 4:52 - 4:55, stands up off the stool, bobbing his head & doing the Metal "rock-out mouth talking", it's a quick shot of James but worth-it & re-watched many times....🤘
***** Good, still below the price that you can get them anywhere else. Or do you think that Im concerned about a 10th of an ounce going down 4 dollars?
Nah, I wouldn't be concerned. Gold usually is less volatile then silver when it comes to PM's and I think those gold eagles will go up again with the spot price.
*00:00* *_The Ectasy of Gold_* *3:14* *_The Call of Kthulu_* -without epic ending, because the video ends early. There supposed to be 2.5 minutes more of The Call of Kthulu.
My dad and I used to listen to this in the car when we went fishing in the summer, it always gave him goosebumps, I grew up to Metallica music because of him and because of his love for Metallica, now I also get goosebumps when I hear this, but I don’t get why they removed this from Apple Music🤦🏼♀️
I love you Metallica from The time I was 15 in orange county now in sf bay area moved there from here born in l a moved there at 13 I hope to meet James ,the band ❤❤❤❤❤❤
+fady michel It's titled incorrectly. Ecstasy of Gold is their standard opening. This IS The Call of Ktulu. The opening is incidental but a nice treat to here it performed live.
Rest in peace Ennio Morricone.
Without you, we wouldn't have the most epic entrance a metal band ever had.
Don't Forget The Ramones.. they used his music too
Indeed.
Epic score to a western movie? Check
Epic piece a metal/orchestral concert? Double check.
Ennio Morricone a legend? You'd better believe it.
Umm how about the prince of darkness since 1969 ozzy fucking Osborne
👏👏👏👏👏
Don't forget the conductor..he sadly passed away...Michale camen
Seriously... This must have been the best concert to attend ever................ No word for it.
Doesn't get any better than this. The idea of mixing metal with symphony is genius.

Yes but
Classical music or symphony it's just metal without distortion

Same here brother, same here

One of the greatest collaboration of all time. All the songs they've done together is epic
Listening to rock & metal growing up never appreciating this symphonic stuff, getting old listening to Classical music and loving show themes and finally back to Metallica + Ennio Morricone. The circle is complete.
R.I.P. Michael Kamen, great composer & true friend to Metallica.
The ecstasy of gold is ennio morricone's song!
sorry rusty yes rest in peace but the composer is ennio morricone check out his other brilliant pieces
I think rusty knows ennio is the original composer of the song, but that’s Michael Kamen in this video
Everyone knows who wrote the song but Kamen was the fucking S&M conductor. Jesus, you guys are on another level of stupid...
@@juansebastian2048 but Michael Kamen conducted this version when they toured with Metallica and he also did the treatments for all of Metallicas music...he was an admire of ennio and wanted to include his song as the intro.
The Good The Bad and The Fucking Metallica ... Epic as FUCK
It sounded like Rhapsody. It's all Italian though I guess.
Yeah, Ennio Morricone
Well shit. I wish I could throw two vastly different musical entities at each other and make millions. It sounds like I have my Pip-boy on and I just killed some raiders ... and the radio is on upstairs.
This is actually Ectasy of Gold (3:11) + The Call of Ktulu
which is *great.*
I’m so glad they did this intro with ecstasy of gold. I remember being a little girl like 6 asking my dad to play this. To this day I still absolutely love it

This song always gives me the goosebumps when I hear it. I've seen them play it live in concert and it just reminds me of how awesome they are.
The Ecstacy of Cthulu \m/
Shivers x1000000
Even still that many years later. Fucking legendary
I'm forever jealous of the people in the audience. This concert was the bomb!
I have a spiritual experience every time I listen to this (and a lot of S&M). I love how pumped the crowd gets
I get goose bumps when I listen to this music. Not sure when they will be back in México.
Foro Sol, Marzo

I see and hear nothing diabolical in this. This to me is the most beautiful expression of music there is. I love it. Amazing.
This song literally evokes tears every time I listen. It is so fucking awesome.
People getting mixed up here... The orchestra plays Ecstasy of gold then Metallica come on to play ktulu
Aint nobody got mixed up

S&M might be the greatest thing that has happened to music. I fckn love Metallica as is but the orchestra just adds a perfect depth to the songs.

+fady michel You're thinking of "Blackened". That is the song they follow "Ecstacy of Gold" with on concerts. EoG is just the intro bit.
