The funniest part of the livestream was at the end for me. I had to write it down! 1:01:20 John: That is the golden arches straight ahead! That is my country! America is right straight ahead! It's like the embassy of America. They should have embassy services there. Kanae: Turn right soon. John: Oh, we turn right soon? That's McDonald's! Kanae: Turn right really soon! Turn right next... next! John: It's a drive thru Kanae! You sure you don't want something? It's the golden arches! What?! Kanae: It's...actually you passed it... John: Drive thru it says. That's what the writing is under the sign. ドライブスルー Kanae: Hey... John: Oh, it says here to turn? Kanae's reaction is the best.
ahh love road trips...we drove from tokyo to mount fuji last year...was an impromptu trip when i was 2months pregnant...i only felt good in a moving vehicle..what a fun drive it was..buying clothes for the road and lotsof snacks in the car....and the things you see in the country side...love japan
I’ll probably do more and they’ll get better with better equipment. I have to get rid of the shaking next time. Audio was noticeable better but can improve that too.
Great video. It was nice too see the Japanese country side. John I think you took a wrong turn when you had the green wakaba express truck next to you @ 51.38 and the GPS said turn right, hence why you got lost. That's what makes road trips exciting. 😆😆
Just so you are aware John there is a musical road around Mt. Fuji, made by Honda. We tried it out. It is on both sides of the road. Please let Kani know that it takes time to become a good navigator. I'm a big fan of reading maps so this why I am my husband's navigator. Even here in Japan. Best of luck though.
I remember my last trip to Japan and we visited ten cities south of Tokyo. We rode on the bullet train, used regular trains, tolley in Hiroshima and rode in wife's relatives and friend's cars. I really missed driving my own car and maybe should have rented a car to drive around some cities. I realized that you need a car in the rural areas of Japan and I plan to do some driving in certain areas. My wife is from Shimizu ku and you can see Mt Fuji on most days.
Hey John, I missed your live stream today but I want to mention one thing! In Japan you will get caught if you keep using the right lane (passing lane) which we call it OIKOSHI SHASEN. A lot of people doesn’t know about this rule but it is true. Actually I have 2 friends caught by an undercover police car on highway. The OIKOSHI SHASEN is meant to use only when you want to pass the car in front of you while driving on the left lane.
I was wondering about this! I saw John getting passed on the left (wait.. left? Yes.. just need to get my head around that still) a few times.. and I was thinking.. Is lane discipline a thing in Japan?
ONLY in JAPAN * GO Yeah, You barely get caught unless you’re unlucky. I heard that there’s like a monthly kinda like quota for the police tickets so better watch out. when driving in highways in Japan, you should move to the left lane once in a while and try not to keep using the right lane more than 2 kilometers! I love watching your vlogs I know you are a safe driver! I’m the guy talked about Fujigaoka the other night in your live stream! Keep up the good work John!(^^)
A S Yeah I forgot or maybe didn’t ‘t care about it until my friend got caught and got fined (I think it was around 6000yen about $55) for this 😂 I think John kept driving safely on the right lane at the same speed level that the other cars behind him wanted to pass him so they had to use the left lane.
Had fun watching you two cruise. Reminds me of when my husband and me used to do that decades ago. Next time stop at that big boy just to see how it looks from the inside.
I’ve driven to Mt Fuji’s 5th Station. I have to say Japanese highways are some of the most pleasurable places to be in terms of views. Although motorways Tolls not so much when we don’t have any in the UK.
Our GPS sent us down a street in Arima that was so narrow we could have reached out of the windows and into the shops. Every time I thought "this can't be a street" we passed a place with a car tucked into a corner.
You guys are awesome. Thanks for all the content. It brings me happiness in this increasingly dreary world. Sister Kanae seems to be such a sweet person and you guys make a very cute pair.
hi john! good day!!! thanks for all your vids. it is where i get info in planning our trip this april-may. am do you have info or tips in going to amanohashidate?
Tokyo seems to have a (Bob's) Big Boy restaurant in Shinjuku. A potential live stream venture? :P I haven't been to one since the one in Hawaii burned down.
thanks if anyone needed to get in a car and head on out to a wonderful beautiful place in Japan, Mt.Fuji it was you John and of course you have to have Kanea your better half with you too. enjoy yourselves and take in all the beauty around you. again thanks John and Kenea
Hi Frank 👋 it was an amazing getaway for a day 🗻 will do it again. It’s what we can do to keep it real since the city is a little gloomy with cancelations etc,
When youre out in the roads, try singing Yasashisa ni Tsutsumareta nara, great road song :) From Kikis Delivery Service. Btw, you both seems so relaxed, getting out of Tokyo do you both good.
It’s funny you are trying to figure out why the navigation keeps you off the highway. My husband and I were in a similar situation and it turned out to be that the google maps option of avoiding highways was enabled by accident. We went into some interesting places.
Nice roads and towns. They actually remind me of a couple of places I've lived, where there were hills and mountains and stuff clustered along the roads. :) And, a certain number of us really want to see Japan's car culture. We love their stuff, they love our stuff, fun. :) (And yes, that looked like a Caterham/Lotus Seven. :) ) (Also it'd be a good chance when you're out there for Kanae to practice driving for car-handling. Big cities are kind of different in those ways but there it's sometimes a matter of kind of aiming for people's rear bumpers when you know you can't get them. :) (Wait, you'd get demonetized for *singing?* That's hardly fair, it's not like it's a copyrighted recording. ) (Anyway, the phone mount does kinda still rattle, but it makes me think of how I bought some camera light seal foam from some dude over there in Japan, (I like old film cameras) ....and it could be just the stuff. I could still have the envelope it came in, if you wanted to see if he's still around. :) )
can the iphone stream using both front and back cameras aka Picture in picture? I think a lot of android phones can do it! would be great for this kind of streams (road/view watching and driver talking) ^_^
Apparently since so many people are avoiding public transportation in Japan, there's been a lot of folks realizing just how fast (and free) traveling by foot or bike can be lol. I'm gonna assume that going forward in the future, once "the situation" has become manageable, public transportation is going to see much less people using it for a while.
We went to view Mt. Fuji at Lake Shojiko and we had the area all to ourselves... except for two crows. Now I understand why few travellers use the spot-- you have to pass by Aokigahara. It's really a desolate place even from the lone and long road.
Absolutely not illegal. I think you still have to pay the free and t many of the huts will be open so take all your stuff with you, drinks, equipment, stay warm!
Thanks John and Kanae for sharing your trip with us. Great pilot and copilot! 👍 Levi 😀 🐀

LOL 😂 sometimes the funniest conversation come out like this! Hahaha
It is great to see some of the countryside via a road trip, I would love to see more of these.
love the road trip! I miss driving in Japan. Not used to driving on the left side anymore though... Was gripping the phone tightly lol
Great video as always, its nice to have a drive with the wife
Lovely couple😍🌹💖Amazing road trip😘💞👍
The weather is very beautiful today in Hamamatsu. I saw Mount Fuji on my way to Aeon.

John and Kanae thanks for this amazing journey and experience. I love it. I cant wait to see it my self.
I like drivin non stop , such a relaxin therapy !
I love this stream! I rarely see driving videos in japan. Usually its either tourist spots or trains as transportation.
I’ll probably do more and they’ll get better with better equipment. I have to get rid of the shaking next time. Audio was noticeable better but can improve that too.
Such a pleasant ride. Really love the mood created in this. Thanks! : )
Sooooo cool driving.... I was taking that highway on several occasions almost 12 years ago.. :) :) :) And I still remember some of the bits
thanks for all the live streams. I miss japan so much, you help to give me a daily fix of it.
Love the backroads! Get a better feel for the countryside.
Great video. It was nice too see the Japanese country side.
John I think you took a wrong turn when you had the green wakaba express truck next to you @ 51.38 and the GPS said turn right, hence why you got lost.
That's what makes road trips exciting. 😆😆
Ha! I’ve got a full record of my mistakes now :) yup, I think I did. Thanks!
As a UK driver, seeing the number of cars undertaking John because he is hogging the overtaking lane made me wince.
Probably brain still on US side - although I didn’t notice anyone behind me in the mirror. I am usually going a little faster than normal.
I love these road trips !!! Kanae makes it very special !!!
We've been to Japan last year, missed it so badly and the Chureito Pagoda was a wonderful view. I'm from the Philippines btw.

Yes we have a similar rule in Australia.
Oh my!! Okay, I’m really thankful for this. I forgot what I studied a little but I don’t want to get busted for it. Better drive better.
I was wondering about this!
I saw John getting passed on the left (wait.. left? Yes.. just need to get my head around that still) a few times.. and I was thinking..

Wow, I can't wait to see Mt. Fuji.
That was fun! I would have pulled over and let Kanae drive so could concentrate on eating that katsu sando! 😋👍🚘
I know!! But she doesn’t want to be filmed driving. It’ll freak her out even more!
nothing wrong to had a girl feeding you....
I was great having Kanae make another live stream appearance she the best collaborator John has on by far perfect yin yang
I live in Colorado and this drive looks a lot like Colorado. Nice drive!
Life is a highway, I want to ride it all night long
I should have sang that one!!! 🎶
Tom Cochrane nice!! 👍🚘
no you not when u see the price of the toll in japan... this is why people buy monthly shingasen pass than drive...
You two look perfect 👌
If you have time, maybe you can visit Kofu. I love that city and the houtou is delicious
I’ve driven to Mt Fuji’s 5th Station. I have to say Japanese highways are some of the most pleasurable places to be in terms of views. Although motorways Tolls not so much when we don’t have any in the UK.
Tolls were ¥¥¥¥¥ - $55 for the day!
14:21 - Kimagure Orange Road fans would probably remember the "Maboroshi Katsu-sando". Probably looked like that...
A road trip in a camper van over several days is cool idea!
In the Philippines we also put pancit ( our version of soba) in our pan - pandesal ( bread with salt ) 😂🤣
This was very cool, I hope you can do more road trip videos.
They’re fun! Will def do more!
Our GPS sent us down a street in Arima that was so narrow we could have reached out of the windows and into the shops. Every time I thought "this can't be a street" we passed a place with a car tucked into a corner.
Sunshine in dark times. Ty John & Kanae🙏
"Only in Japan where they put noodles in bread and call it a f**king sandwich" 0:46 most true and honest quote out there.

Whaaaat? I’m so curious about the menu 😂 probably our friend Eric (surf6) must have been there.
@@onlyinjapanGO Yeah I'm curious about the menu too. I'd guess it's much more catered for Japanese tastes, but who knows lol.

Thanks Alma!
I love the road trip banter video idea
It’s fun! More coming :)

My dream is to get into that Daiso for my Japanese make up. Then to see Fuji up close.
I have rotten luck... every time I've been to Japan I've had to go right up to Fuji to see it! No luck on the Train!
Thanks for the video you two!
Hope you see it next time! Do t worry, if you keep at it, she shows herself! One min she will be hidden then .... WOW!!! 🗻
@@onlyinjapanGO I'll keep trying! Thanks for the Encouragement!!
I like that you had an ev hybrid. I was surprised to see very few full electric cars in japan. Maybe I just missed them
Toyota rentacar has them at a reduced rate so I often get them. No more MARK X!
Hi cool video
It’s funny you are trying to figure out why the navigation keeps you off the highway. My husband and I were in a similar situation and it turned out to be that the google maps option of avoiding highways was enabled by accident. We went into some interesting places.
Yay! Road trip!
I'm that guy - "Are we there yet?". Also, "Ooh, i see a rest stop!".
Thanks and domo arigato, John and Kanae.
We also love the rest stops (service areas) and stop just to see them!
Next time, rent a HiAce. That way you can barrel down the highway like a Pampas bull! HERE I COME!!!!!!!

I wish it was more on the road
can the iphone stream using both front and back cameras aka Picture in picture? I think a lot of android phones can do it! would be great for this kind of streams (road/view watching and driver talking) ^_^
Because Kanae said so John lol :)) That's why you went there.
Did some snowboarding at Mt.Fuji on Feb 22nd, it was super fun. Always love the country side. That's one place I wouldn't mind living.

We didn’t drive through there but I will next time, the back side of Fujisan.
Wasn’t the computer in A Space Odyssey called HAL? Nani tabete ka? I understood that dammit! I miss Japan and its gentle people!
Have you come across Youkai during such rural trips?
Only in Sakaiminato, and there were A LOT OF THEM, everywhere!!!
I love Daiso!!!!!
You can see mount fuji from shizuoka side today. Don’t know about yamanashi
daiso..... yes
I’ve been to Yamanashi before
E-I-e-I-o xD have a great trip!
We have to work on our car travel songs!
I spent 5 weeks in Yamanashi - Kofu
JOHN ANYCAST YEAH.!!! 👁😋👍
Hi John, Hi Kanai
I never miss your videos. Why don’t you do video on Nikko
Nice suggestion!
Get out of the Right Lane on the highway Keep left unless overtaking
Hey we just seen you. We at the pagoda right now haha
Wow! Yes, we walked though for 30 minutes, beautiful day and view today!
Is it illegal to climb Fuji like the last week of June? I know early is not recommended unless you are an experienced climber.
Absolutely not illegal. I think you still have to pay the free and t many of the huts will be open so take all your stuff with you, drinks, equipment, stay warm!
(I’m actually planning to do the same thing BEFORE the climbing season with my friend Dean with a guide.)
Kanai should operate the camera while you're driving !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She should :) but it’s actually like pushing the button on the AC or radio. My eyes are straight ahead.
ironic that the ads on your stream are for travel.
