A "posting" nib is designed for use in business, particularly in posting financial transactions to a account ledger, hence the name. This is why they are designed the way they are, to write small and avoid tine spread that might cause numbers to be confused. The stiffness of the nib also helps when the pen is being used to produce copies either with carbon paper or carbonless copy paper. I imagine the downturned nib may also be useful with sightlines in a densely populated spreadsheet or ledger.

I love your videos, Daisy. Especially, when you do detailed reviews on the Pilot Vanishing Point, Sailor, etc.😊

You can't beat a Kakuno at 20xs the price. I actually use them over most of my other pens. I need another one now.

Great video, Daisy! I actually just noticed that the PO nib existed last week (and was thinking about getting one), so your timing is uncanny! I'm having a flashback to the Kleid x Life notebook video when you said something like, "Don't worry guys, you're not meant to write within the grid spaces! If any of you do, send us a picture!" I was laughing and laughing at the time, flipping through my medicine board review notes with a needlepoint nib, all contained within the single lines of a Kleid notebook.
And I agree, while the Pilot Kakuno was my gateway drug (and I love it to this day), I didn't stay in it very long. The cap is intentionally perforated, supposedly so that if a child aspirates the pen, they can still breathe through the cap (or so I've heard). Just leads to slightly quicker drying out than a perfectly sealed nib. Cheers!

Thank you. I have and like the Kakuno. Just placed an order for the Platinum UEF, but maybe I should have just ordered another Kakuno! UPDATE: Love the UEF, and also now own the Pilot 912 posting nib. Both are excellent, and I write multiple pages at a time with them. The Pilot is perhaps my favorite, by a small margin.

Thank you. Hadn't even known what Platinum UEF or Pilot Pnosting nibs were, but recognized the European F and EF nibs were not what I was looking for and was frustrated given the local area doesn't even stock those - now at least I know what to look /ask for.

I've used the tester pens at a pen shop about three years ago and didn't like it then. I may revisit them. At the moment my finest nib is the SEF on my Elabo which is finer than the Needlepoint on my Estie. Thanks for the very helpful comparison video.

Well !!! …. Great video Daisy. I’ve been on the fence about Pilot’s PO nib for years. I can see clearly that (for me) this is a specialty nib, that would work in a limited arena. I’ve got a Platinum EF nib, that is ok in some uses, but far too scratchy in normal writing (not printing). Since the 912 & 742 share the same sized (#10) nib, the 742 would be pretty much identical in performance I think. Your review (again…) very comprehensive. I’d like to think that a 743 PO nib is in my future 🤔. Writing in the margins of a Bible, the PO nib might just be the right nib. Some paper in Bibles is just so thin underlining, or any writing bleeds through, or ghosts through to the other side… . Thank you again. 👍😎

I thought I had read that the Posting nib was originally for Japanese new years postcards. I have the 912 with PO. I write small letters so it’s a five pen.

I've used the pilot custom 912 Posting since 2017 and it's my all time favorite pen from all the pens that I own. I also own the platinum UEF which I bought at the same time as the pilot and the platinum has been sitting in a drawer, whereas the pilot PO has always been with me. I find that the pilot one is much smoother and has better flow than the UEF, but maybe I got a bad UEF? Not sure.. I love the PO for both writing and sketching and now I'm considering getting the 743 PO as well 😍 I didn't know they offered the PO nib in other pens untill now. Wohooo🎉 ❤

Is it possible to find tiny nibs that don't feel "scratchy" when writing on the paper? I began to only use medium and fine because they feel smooth whereas anything smaller felt so scratchy. But I realize that maybe I should use only supersmooth paper for extra fine. Which is maybe why you're using a Life Kleid (supersmooth). Yes that must be it! Sorry bout the rambling. 😊

I haven't used the PO nib, yet, but I bought the Esterbrook "Needlepoint" customized nib. That still felt smooth to me. If you can get to a fountain pen show, you could probably compare them! I know Pilot has tables with all their specialty nibs laid out for people to try. I gotta agree with Daisy, though: a light hand goes a long way.

I have a Pilot 14k #5 EF (the Grance). Curious how this compares, but it's not a pen found in the US. seriously awesome pen, though! I feel like it's a missed opportunity for Pilot, with the lower price point and amazing snap cap.

I'm on your website and I don't see where a 743 is available with the posting nib. Is that a special order?

This will become available next year in the US but for now it is a Japan only option :) Thanks for watching!

You're talking way too much, stealing too much time.
I clicked this video not to look at you, not to listen your reasonings. I came here not to listen about your hobby.
The only reason I'm here is to take a look at two fountain pens and the way they write.
You could do it in five minutes, instead of attempting stealing thirty minutes of my life.
