Every time you do your disclosure bit at the start my respect for you increases.
I have a lot of respect for you.

I'm using a Wyze Sensor in my mailbox (40 feet away). I use IFTTT to connect with a TP link Kasa scene switch. This turns on a lamp. When I'm back inside, I tell my Google Home to turn off the mail alert. Very cool that this old guy can still cut the mustard and make it work.
Good idea 👍🏻
Lon, you are great. Keep making awesome videos. All the best!
Excellent video... i just did following all the steps, works like a charm!
Perfect timing! Thanks Lon
Great video, thank you for the final bit about reserving the IP address (I use a linksys, easy UI). If you didn't mention this, I might have been stumped!
Thank you very much for taking the time to create this video. This is exactly what I've been looking for!
Interesting stuff, I have a Synology NAS which I selected watching your videos. I'll invest in a couple of these cameras as I can use 2 for free with my NAS.
Very good review & demo. Thank you!
nice job lon and review 😀
Great Video Thank you for putting this out there! New subscriber!
Would you be willing to make a video showing the wyze cams behind a window, with and without a screen, during the day and night? thanks for the great content.
I have a mi dafang camera.the outlook is exactly the same as your big one. Can it be possible on my camera?
well done. I love RTSP and standards
what app do yall use after you get the rtsp
I've added the RTSP firmware to three Wyze Cam V2's with no significant loss of performance from the main stream firmware. One observation: the open TCP ports change with the RTSP firmware. The main stream firmware opens TCP port 22306. The RTSP firmware opens 3 ports; 554, 10002 and 22345. Does anyone know what services are accessed by these 3 ports?
Great how to vidéo definitely giving me ideas for new how to videos on my channel ;)
Do you know if this allows for sound in the synology surveillance station? If you remember, the custom firmware hack required disabling sound, because it caused the camera to crash and reboot.
Got hard time to find a outside cam with 2 way communication POE and maybe PTZ and nice app but no cloud for gate watch and talk, lot of Time the info about if you have to use a cloud not clear ?
Thanks for the video. in the Wyze support page it mentions "there can be video lag if both functions are streaming video at the same time. We do not recommend running Cam Plus on the RTSP firmware." and "it is recommended to only use it if you plan to use RTSP full-time".. so can the video stream to the wyze app be disabled? and if so, does it resolve the lag issue and the video jerkiness compared to the normal wyze app video stream?
thanks for the great video!
I was only able to get one of my V2's on the RTSP. I bought them in a 2 pack. One of them just bootloops forever until I flash the regular firmware on it.
I did exactly as you say, but in the last stage, after I put my wifi password, have an error Connection failed. Please help me.
IT would be good to see you see how long the NEW wyze battery camera would last when it has to Stream all the time into a system like this. It notes online that it is self-rechargeable, and will run without power for roughly 6months. I'd be interested to know how much of a drain is on that camera providing both signals out, one to the app and one RSTP.
I'm moving out but I'm planning to leave a camera at home because I still have stuff in my room. Would this still work even if the NAS is in a different country from the Wyze cam? Should I set up the Wyze Cam before I leave or can I set it up remotely?
What if the wyze cam restarts? Do you always have to press that reset button in order for it to load that demo.bin file?
As a side note, it won't every get pan tilt option. RTSP is purely for video streaming, it would need to use ONVIF to be able to control it.
Very interesting. Makes sense. Thanks.
Great video. I love the background shelf of the vintage stuff. Can I get a full picture of that? I am thinking of doing something like that.
Can this firmware work on an isolated network that cannot access the internet in any way?
I can't get mine to do it. I have the v2 edition and I did everything you said and everything the site said but it just doesn't see the firmware
Will this also works with the Xiaomi Cam ??
Sweet. Going to flash the firmware on my xiaomi instead of the hacked firmware.
what do you recommend for RTSP compatible player that don't break the bank???
I see that you did the audio through the wyze app but does the audio come through in the recording on the Synology?
I still cannot get this to work. Tried multiple times. The blue light never comes up. Just goes back to flashing yellow. I noticed you had your SD card labeled. Is this necessary. Second how should the SD card be formatted? FAT32 or NTFS?
Do these Wyze cams connect to Nas via Wifi? Will they work PoE?
It's impossible to get PTZ to work if using RTSP. RTSP is a one way protocol: video from the source to the client and that's it
Is there anyway of installing the Wyze firmware on a Xiaomi Dafang or Xiaofang camera - which are essentially the same cameras?
I don't believe so.
Once you upgrade to the RTSP firmware, do you get the regular updates?
No! 😭
I'm wondering if anyone is successfully using the Wyze Cam RTSP with Zoneminder. I can get the camera to work with VLC using RTSP but not Zoneminder. Thanks.
Can this store footage locally to the Microsd without Wi-Fi if I use the RTSP firmware?
Can I turn an old desktop into a nas, then use it with wyze cams? If so what os should I use?
no1 uknow look into blue iris, it runs on windows but can access rtsp feeds.
Hi, THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO!
BUT.....
i downloaded the : Wyze Cam v2 RTSP file
renamed the : demo_v2_rtsp_4.28.4.49.bin
to : demo.bin
place the file in the sd card (without folders, straight in sd card D:/)
Then removed and plugged the sd card in camera and pressed and hold the setup button, and then wile i was holding it i plugged the micro usb and the light was orange and NO BLUE lights i even horded for 30sec and then started saying ready to connect with orange light blinking, never saw the blue light not even one sec , tried 20time different sd card and sd cards do work and do record into them and camera works on app.
what could it be, my camera its v2:
firmware Vr 3 9 4 16
Hello, did you get it to work? it's been a long time since I tried and I'm trying today and nothing works
Is there firmware which allows you to monitor a wyze camera v2 on a phone or PC (via bluestacks) that is connected to a local home network ONLY and not connected to the internet. I am NOT interested in recording or viewing the SD card remotely - I just want to be able to see through the camera without the need for internet. I used to be able to do this with wyze, bit no longer. Again I am NOT looking to record AT ALL - just view live.
I'm trying to download the firmware and it keeps on downloading a blank .bin file with absolutely no content and unable to open it at all, because my two computers don't have a program for .bin files (windows 10 and 8).
I've seen videos of the file being a zip file but not in my case.
just try renaming the .bin file as demo.bin you don't need to open it for anything.
@@TimYorty dude you are a genius
blue light never comes?
Anyone else have audio issues with the Wyze cameras?
Are the iSmartAlarm cameras the same ?
They are
What's the benefits of doing this besides having live view on your computer? Can you also say store 2 weeks worth of recording to your NAS ?
What protocol does it open up? SMB? I just want to transfer the video off the camera SD's.
This is strictly for steaming. You’ll need to still connect with the app or the pull the card.
RTSP
Are those cameras you demo’d good for outdoor usage too?
They have some third party outdoor enclosures available but they are not really designed for outdoor use.
I have been using 3 Wyze Pan Cam and 2 Wyze regular cams outside for the past 6 months without any issues. I'm using third party outdoor enclosures I picked up from Amazon. They've survived rain, hail, ice, 90F heat. I did have to add a wifi extender to my network, as one camera kept losing wifi signal on my back porch.
They are indoor but sale cases that cover the cameras and you can use it outside 👍
So will this work with Blue iris?
FYI no it doesn't. Constantly dropping signal. There's some work around with a script promptin VLC to pen and get signal back in BI. But that sounds like more trouble than buying a better camera. Or don't use Blue Iris. FML.
The only thing I get is an orange light and a ready to connect voice on my wyze cam v2
I've inserted my micro sd card w/demo.bin in the root directory, held down the setup button and plugged it in but only getting a blue flash after a much longer period than your video shows and then the camera does it's startup turns, all the while flashing yellow. Any ideas?
I get the same thing as you. hope to get some help soon.
Go into the camera settings and format the SD card. Then add the bin file. Worked for me when I was having this issue.
@@matthewmarra7065 Thanks man, first reply I've had. Will try!
@@waveless96 did you get it to work? I'm still having the same problem.
@@Lunakid7 hello, did you get it to work? it's been a long time since I tried and I'm trying today and nothing works
anyone got a firmware for v2 cam??
you can set static ip from your router
easier and less time consuming
for instance with mikrotik routers
Yes I covered that in the video.
I would recommend avoiding anything from Mikrotik. No joke, stay far away!
Anyone have macOS recommendations for RTSP software?
I tried to get VLC mosaic going, but the video quality was terrible and the cameras would black out after about 30 seconds of viewing
SecuritySpy from BenSoftware is my favorite macOS Security camera monitoring software, I’m researching to see if the Wyze cameras can be recorded similar to how I am recording Amcrest cameras and getting rtsp cameras to show up in HomeKit via HomeBridge.
Sighthound Video
@@gmankono Hi, Gary. Were you able to load RTSP firmware and use your Wyze Cams with SecuritySpy on your Mac? Thanks.
Lon the v3 is out, should not require updated firmware..... should it? I preordered 2 from Wyze.
I got one in the other day will be reviewing soon!
@@LonSeidman Outstanding, looking fwd to it.
I believe you do because the website states this firmware is different than the main firmware.
mine wont go blue
This does not work with Blue Iris FYI.
MIght want to update the video WYZE took down the firmware
Unfortunately, the camera is $25 and the synology license is going to be $50 if you have more than two cameras :(
Yes but they’ll also work with other rtsp compatible DVRs
@@LonSeidman Could you make a comparison video for the different NVR software packages?
This is a good suggestion! I'll ask the audience for their picks on good solutions.
Ok love wyze but can you say “obvious?!” Can’t figure a way to hid it in the home
carve out a large book and set it so the lens is part of the binding
but the delay is so bad tho
Looks like Wyze removed the files from their web site.
Its useless to me and I can't honestly recommend it if it doesn't fully support RTSP
Many many people on Wyze forums want to access cameras directly via RTSP, ONVIF, or plain HTML5. The cameras have great features and great price, but we don't want to be locked into Wyze app and Wyze servers. It's a deal-breaker. Wyze lips are tight regarding whether they would ever do this.
@@ifination Installed a few Wyze using RTSP, big mistake, the stream keeps cutting off and reconnecting. They need to release a desktop client app also, can't believe they don't see this. And how hard can it be to add ONVIF support? SMH
