  • China is growing in prominence on the world stage, highlighted by its leadership roles in international forums like the United Nations and pioneering economic relationships through the Belt and Road Initiative. Though China’s development offers new opportunities, its rise is also seen by many as a direct challenge to the post-World War II order largely established by the United States and allies. What is China’s desired role in the world, and what might a future shaped by Chinese goals and priorities look like?
In an interview filmed on June 6, 2024, NCUSCR Director Elizabeth Economy joins the National Committee to discuss China’s goals for the future and the role of the United States in a world where China has greater influence.

About the de-dollarization, the US dollar has the function of reserve currency and settlement currency. While the RMB cannot be a reserve currency, it's becoming increasingly a settlement currency. The Americans shot themselves in the foot with the sanctions, so nobody to blame.

@@Brummly84 [Sorry, truth hurts, lady. It's time for the world to move on from America's dictatorship on international order]
The US was created upon European immigration and colonization, African slave trade, genocide of aboriginal people, and conquest and forced annexation of foreign territories.
Rampant racism against minorities, widespread drug abuse, frequent gun violence, cruel exploitation of new immigrants as cheap labor, ridiculous gap between rich and poor, looting of global wealth through addictive money printing, economic and military coercion of "allies and foes" around the world, bombing and killing of millions of civilians in foreign lands under the cover of "human rights, democracy and liberty", are some of the key features of American led so called "rule based international order".
The American tyranny of dictatorship on international order based on lie fabrication, economic coercion and military bullying will soon come to a slow end, following the outcry from the world against the atrocities happening in Gaza. A truely open, free and democratic international order based on UN Charter will be restored for all of humankind, which is exactly what the global development initiative, global security initiative and the global civilization initiative are looking for.

China's ambition to ascend to global leadership raises significant concerns regarding its suitability to govern the world. Despite its rapid economic growth, technological advancements, and strategic initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative, China's approach to governance and international relations is deeply troubling. The nation's history of authoritarianism, pervasive censorship, and human rights violations stands in stark contrast to the values of integrity, humanity, and respect essential for responsible global leadership.
China's aggressive actions, including military build-up, strategic land acquisitions, and the Belt and Road Initiative, often lead to economic coercion and dependency among participating nations. Furthermore, China's persistent efforts to steal, hack, and copy advanced technologies from countries like Japan, South Korea, European nations, and the United States undermine global trust and cooperation. These actions reflect a pursuit of dominance through illegitimate means rather than fostering innovation and collaboration.
In comparison, the United States, despite its imperfections, has historically upheld principles such as democracy, freedom of speech, and human rights, striving to maintain a balance that respects the dignity of individuals. These values foster an environment where innovation, dialogue, and cooperation can thrive-essential components for a harmonious global community.
Russia's recent actions, notably its aggression towards Ukraine, exemplify a blatant disregard for international norms and humanitarian principles, further highlighting the dangers posed by authoritarian regimes seeking global influence.
China's model, characterized by state control over the economy, suppression of dissent, and expansionist policies, may enhance its power but does not align with the foundational principles required to steward a diverse and interconnected world. Global leadership demands not only economic prowess but also a commitment to upholding the rights and freedoms of all people. Therefore, China's current trajectory and governance style make it ill-suited to assume a role as the world's leader, as it lacks the requisite balance of power, respect, and humanity necessary for such a position.
