37:50 - This is precisely how Retro Studios made Samus look better than Nintendo ever did. She looked like she weighed a metric tonne in the Prime series.
the first 3 videos you seen they was right before the sith won the war and new war broke out towards the end of the Cold War, following the presumed death of the Sith Emperor and after serving on the Dark Council, Malgus came to the fore and declared a New Empire, one free of the infighting of the Dark Council.
I love this one, thought it was great. Maybe I just like Malgus. But I agree, I loved the first sith that got ousted too quickly and rather anti-climatic. You should possible check out the Elden Ring cinematic trailers
Although this one is probably my favorite one story wise(purely because Malgus is my favorite character) But it's probably my least favorite trailer because of the floatiness as you describe it. Like when Sahar walks up to the machine the way she drops the lightsaber looks so off to me. Also the fight Coreography in this one seems to be a lot of just pushing around the lightsabers while in the old ones it was a lot of fast "hits" which is a lot cooler imo. Also the characters seem to look off to me I'm not sure why except for malgus which looks absolutely amazing. Thanks for doing this series I have been waiting for this since you did the first one :)
It is funny that you point out how the cinematic feel of THIS trailer feels so different from the others. The timing for when Star Wars went from being more "open ended" and having a huge scale to when Disney fully took... control of the franchise, falls throughout the timeframe for when SWTOR was originally released and up until today. This cinematic in particular is the most recent, and I feel has this weird feeling/vibe to it that does not match the previous ones.
Whenever you do another Halo one I think the next one you should do is Halo 4 or Halo 4 spartan ops i forget which ones come first but the cutscenes are just as good as in halo 2.. love the vids!!
So when the other Sith calls Malgus a traitor it’s because Malgus during a storyline in the games actually leaves the Sith Empire in order to create his own. Essentially, Malgus wanted to recreate a Sith Empire that truly followed under the rules and beliefs of the Sith. At the time of even the original trailers, the Sith code and ideals had somewhat become a corrupted situation. In true Sith way, it is protocol for an Sith Lord and Master to take an apprentice. They will then raise this apprentice in the ways of the Sith passing on their knowledge and skills and helping them to raise their powers. And one day, when the Sith apprentice believes themselves powerful enough, shall face their master down in combat and slay them, taking their position and continuing the legacy and ever growing strength of the Sith. Problem is, by this point such had become a corrupted ideal. Many Sith Masters would choose apprentices of poor quality or if they got ones of high quality would use them like a tool and they have them killed off through enemy action or their own, always playing to keep their positions and power intact but completely ignoring the Sith ideals of power and strength. And the same happened the other way too, a lot of good and strong Sith warriors and commanders were killed by lacking apprentices who either cheated their way into a position of power or would strike down their masters when they were completely defenceless or assassinate them in un-Sith ways. As such the rot of the Sith began to set in and Malgus being one who truly believed in the Sith ideals decided that enough was enough and broke from the Empire to form his own. - a unique thing from Malgus was that unlike the regular Sith Empire that despised aliens and barely tolerated those Sith warriors who were not human (I.e. if you were an alien that was a Sith Pureblood or Human you were pretty much never going to achieve much and would be the target of many many downfalls and discrimination + attacks) he actually adopted them fully seeing no reason why those who can hold to the Sith ideals better than those in the Empire cannot be true Sith themselves. As such alot of warrior like cultures actually signed on with Malgus’s new Empire before it was brought down by (insert protagonist character here). It would be later after escaping the Sith Emperors control again after his body and mind were recovered and corrupted after his first betrayal, he would strike out again on his own, despising both Sith and Jedi who act as if they teach the true meaning behind the force and their words, but in truth are both as corrupt in ideal as one another many a time.
No, he's not a bad Jedi. The importance of that Holocron is that, with it, they can find force sensitive life forms. I believe that when they did that close up between the master and apprentice, where you said he looked evil to you, they did it because he was sensing the doubt on her. He didn't want the Holocron to fall in Malgus's hands, he knew Malgus was stronger and was going to defeat them, so he wanted to destroy the archives. But when she got perturbed by Malgus, he got desperate. If it wasn't obvious, a Holocron in a Sith's hands would mean they could make an army of force users.
love your breakdowns and how you communicate your knowledge! i am curious though, if i may ask: when are you gonna continue the world of warcraft battle for azeroth cinematics? it really is just one continuous story (like a mini movie) and imo best if watched in context of one another. when can we expect the next part? (i can see you are busy creating content and i appreciate all of it! just thought i'd ask, cause i am excited to hear your thoughts!)
If Acolyte would have been done right should be the video title xD... Just enough to get the punchlines delivered with impact by the VO actors, choreography and action/plot - the previous shorts had deff more impact story wise and presentation but its still a 9/10 for BioWare standards (would be 12/10 for D+ standards)
Love how simple Star Wars is. You see her matching malgus strength and you said whoa but she’s tapping in to the dark side and she shouldn’t do it. Like Star Wars is so simple and that’s what makes the magic work and easy to understand while not being given all the answers to it.
I love the Old Republic and the other cinematics are some of my favourite pieces of media of all time. but for this cinematic as an animation fan the body animations hurt my brain so much T_T. The body movements look so unnatural, it almost reminds me of when you picked up a stickman in a ragdoll simulator back in the day and the movement is all just being dragged along with the single point that you're pulling them from.
I would like to suggest that you next react to "An Elden Ring Movie ► The Lord of Frenzied Flame" by "VaatiVidya". I would like to hear a filmmaker's perspective on it!
When I first saw this cinematic, the action was really off-putting to me. The choreography is fine imo, but it felt just so very slow. I literally had to put it at 1.25x speed to get some form of immersion out of it.
I hate to bring up The Acolyte but do you think that show with it's high budget would have benefited more if it was done in this digital style and used the millions allocated to it to create a tighter more cohesive better written and paced show? I feel The Acolyte suffers from over price production costs, actor, directors, etc. and because if this to fill it's 8 episodes they just did not have the content to create a good show. The show has a great idea but has many holes in the story and the placement and structure of the episodes. Money is wasted for no reason and for an example they could have had the budget for a Kelnacca/Qimir lightsaber fight. Money would have been available to show Sol's backstory and more importantly Vernestra Rwoh's backstory and how she aged into the depiction the show presents.
I think the floatyness (or at least some of it) might be because of the motion capture. In real life movements are often slower and less intentional, but I think in animation you should be more on the stylized side and take advantage of the medium. I personally don't like the look of motion captured animations, and prefer the hand keyed ones with more artistic control of the artists.
This was probably the weakest storyline from the Old Republic. If it was the intro into the game universe prior to the Sith War, it would have flowed better. It would have made a better introduction to Malgus as well.
I'll be honest this is my least favorite of all of them. I really disliked it when I first saw it, I've warmed up to it having watched it a few more times since and I do like it now, but it's still my least favorite of the swtor cinematics The cinematography and all im no filmmaker lol but even though it looks really good it also looks very stylized almost disney like to me, maybe thats just me not liking change after the darker grittier style of the older ones. The fight choreography feels very different from most star wars as well, which is not necessarily bad the last one with Senya is pretty unique too but that seemed to show off more her character's style being unique rather than an overall change in the setting almost? Some cool stuff tho like catching the saber and the hand swap The story itself I dont want to comment on too much, as I've not played the newest stuff maybe getting more of the current story there would change my mind the way knowing all the backstory for the others helps, but the last 2 cinematics do a very good job of having a hard hitting self contained story, and the first 3 show off and tease the larger world and events well. I guess to me it's like I dont really feel the connection between sahaar and her brother and master so the emotional impact doesnt quite hit as hard, you dont get a lot of time showing her and her brother or master I do like that it's back to jedi and sith stuff at least. The story was actually pretty good and well done with the last two xpacs but it was pretty weird and disconnected and didnt really feel like star wars anymore
The fighting seqencing felt so off and slow even when he swinging on the the rope it felt and looked weird. The fight definitely missed the fast precise movements etc of the older trailers simialr to the shat wars films we got the fast and agressive lightsaber combat in the prequals then in the sequals this slow moving weak movements
For me its the worst cinematic from TOR, and was made by different creators thats why it looks sooo different. In one frame looks stunning and in second just awfull. This smooth camera and animations did not spoke to me, looks cheap and sterille
see- release the saber and it turns off- would have cut own feet off if the saber still on when it fell down.... i hated the part where the girl drops the saber to swap hands in ultra close saber combat. it was less dumb than rey doing almost same in throneroom fight during an ongoing parry (wile parrying with the saber she drops to swap hands) but it is a super dumb move during witch any serious enemy should chiv her up in bitesize bits. of course malgus is playing with her, but it looks soooooo unrealistic. and a tiny padawan will never in a hundred years have the raw power to bash open a malgus's level sith lord's cross block (it is simply unbrakable parry, and if she did manage to plow through it- malgus would be halved)! it is immersion brakingly unrealistic. the 3 things that destroyed this cinematic for me: 1)bickering when a known uuuber strong sith has entered the fry with a lit lightsaber+ 2) braking the sabercross guard+ 3) saber release drop to swap hands. + as an extra bonus of that SMIRK as a response to not get killed by lightning (protected by artifact, not her prowess or being out of any harms way) this made this cinematic the worst among all kotr cinematics (at least from choreography of fights) for me. and, re watching this after getting introduced to disney sw acolite show: the trope of making jedi "not the force of the good" but a sect of child kidnappers as advertised by the jedi acolite series stated narrative; kills this cinematic for me totally...
Yeah, this one is a step down imo. Doesn't have the same punch as the previous two trailers. Bit of a bummer that they didn't continue in the same style. It's just a bit boring, this one isn't it?
This is obviously worse than the previous cinematics, right? The gravitas and cinematic quality are clearly missing. I think the writing and creative teams were completely changed for this.
It doesn't really matter very few nick pick as kai does but he's a film maker so thats a given, but who here didn't think this cinematic was awesome? Because it was and its meant to hype you up to play the expansion.
It's an awfully mediocre cinematic, not only compared to the previous two, but to all which came before. Disney's poor interpretation of Star Wars heavily shines through in this one. Floaty wasn't the word that came to my mind; for me, the fights feel 'heavier' in a bad way. Slower. Like a 100 year old can keep up with the pace. Moreover, no mere Padawan could ever hope to exchange more than 2 blows with a Sith Lord like Malgus, even if they tippy tapped into the dark side for a moment. Not even Anakin as the chosen one was able to challenge Dooku as a Padawan, and Dooku is "just" an apprentice. I might be biased here, but I just dislike the Padawan as a character only judging from these few minutes. It just feels like this typical "strong female" image Disney likes to portray in every Star Wars show nowadays. I like the story foundation that the Jedi Order has flawed practices and I don't think this cinematic is bad, but it's not Star Wars for me. It's DISNEY Star Wars in this one.
There is no way you're actually being serious about disliking the female character in the spand of a few minutes, she tapped into the dark side and was blinded by hatred after seeing her master be killed right in front of her, not only that she is also emotional because she suspects that she's been lied to by her master in that the force didn't pick her, he did and didn't care about what would happen with her brother. Its totally reasonable that she would be able to stand toe to toe with malgus for the short time she did, because of that hatred and anger but ultimatly she still lost the fight, so complaining about her being a strong female character is just utter foolish and makes you out to be hater who just hates just because. That 100 year old is fricking malgus and badass bastard who can't seem to die no matter what punishment he recives, he's quite powerful and has robot limbs to make his movement so that he can keep up with the younger folk. Dukku was not just an apprentice when anakin fought him as a padawan, dukku was previous a jedi master before he turned to the dark side, and was frankly a sith lord at thay point in attack of the clones. Still panawan anakin was still able to keep up with him for a while until he was defeated, so comparing that fight with this one it makes complete sense that she would be able to keep up with malgus, thanks to the hatred and dark side. But ultimatly she still lost so, no point in complaining about a female character being forcely strong, because we don't need a reason to explain why she so strong every damn time. Its cinematic to get people hype about the new expansion and get people to play. Its as simple as that, and isn't worthy being something to complain over.

Define "newer". The cinematic before this one, was released 6 years prior. All the other cinematics are also made by the same studio (Blur Studios), while this one's made by ILM.
I believe the term you are looking for id "dolly zoom" First made popular by Hitchcock and then brought back to the main stream in a little movie called Jaws. Cheers
It came to me the moment I stopped recording, typical. It's not a technique I usually like or use hence I brain farted as they say. Cheers anyways.
@@kaizammit no worries, it's more storyboarding lingo anyways.
whole cinematic is one huge reference to the sith code.
This is the best scene of 9 mins in star wars that shows all the aspects of the force
Yesesssss I yelled yes when I seen this video while in the gym lol
Darth Malgus is a tough Sith lord. An old man (80+ years old), but crushes the Jedi like cockroaches.
He's 80!?
Tbh by this point alot of him is robotic

75 in this cinematic, to be exact.
OMG KAI!!!!! I just Realized you haven't Watched "The Force Unleashed & #2" trailers and cinematics!!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! You will Love Them!!
No I haven't, any good then? haha
@@kaizammit it's the best depiction of what the force was suppose to be able to do. In video game form. Semi famous actor plays the voice and body of it. The actor told the creator of the game about the lore that they almost messed up and the director was dumbfounded (random backstory)
I’m glad you’re honest with the animation style, I agree that the last two Blur studio made are masterpieces. :)
You said in a previous video that you were playing through Jedi Survivor. Would be amazing to see you breakdown the trailers for Survivor and Fallen Order to continue this Star Wars series. Or Force Unleashed
Hey Kai! New subscriber. Gotta say man, I really enjoy your critique. A lot of the games you're reacting to are my childhood. It's nice to not only relive some of those moments through the cutscenes, and see someone in awe at them for the first time. Just finished the Halo videos. Keep it up man! Love the perspectives you bring
Glad you like them and thank you for watching! I'm covering Halo 4 on Monday so expect to see that video sooner rather than later.
Would love to see you react Ahsoka S1E5s cinematography
ngl these rings are fucking epic, also another nice vid man keep it up!
Yeah I love mine, some of them are a bit tasty (expensive) but gorgeous!
@@kaizammit ill at some point get one toh def!
Thanks Kai! 🙏
I love this one, thought it was great. Maybe I just like Malgus. But I agree, I loved the first sith that got ousted too quickly and rather anti-climatic.
You should possible check out the Elden Ring cinematic trailers
You have such intresesting sponsorships I've never heard of the companies that sponsor you give me a reason to not just skip the sponsor segment
Darth Malgus is a bad arse.
What would be the best example of "non floatiness" in action scenes? Would it be the elder scrolls online high isle video that you covered?
Halo 4 is the next Halo video so you're in luck! It won the recent Halo poll on the Patreon.
Good good the real star wars!!!
This one is my favorite of all SWTOR cinematics in terms of lightsaber looks, sounds and combat. So satisfying.
Yeah Blur Studios who made the first cinematics before this one were better imo. But I still love that they keep the old republic alive :)
Please watch the remaining Overwatch cinematics, specially the trailer for the second part, I think you will be delighted 😊
I've already recorded up to zero hour I think it's called so expect more to come to the channel soon. KZ
@@kaizammit Looking forward to it, love your content ^^
Despite us living in the dark times AKA DISNEY STAR WARS. There’s sometimes a glimpse of Hope with the old Republic cinematics.
love your breakdowns and how you communicate your knowledge! i am curious though, if i may ask: when are you gonna continue the world of warcraft battle for azeroth cinematics? it really is just one continuous story (like a mini movie) and imo best if watched in context of one another. when can we expect the next part? (i can see you are busy creating content and i appreciate all of it! just thought i'd ask, cause i am excited to hear your thoughts!)
I have already recorded the next part so it's just time to edit it. Expect it soon!
@@kaizammit awesome! thanks for the reply!
What's the title of the this video so i can read the story
The original video is in the description box. Is that what you mean?
I might have an idea on what you can react. The soulsborne games are good, so maybe you like the trailers. Anyway keep up the good vids🫶
React to force unleashed cinematics

I would like to suggest that you next react to "An Elden Ring Movie ► The Lord of Frenzied Flame" by "VaatiVidya". I would like to hear a filmmaker's perspective on it!
Sounds interesting! I'll give it some thought. KZ
When I first saw this cinematic, the action was really off-putting to me. The choreography is fine imo, but it felt just so very slow. I literally had to put it at 1.25x speed to get some form of immersion out of it.
Its a shame to see this go mr zammit
But it just means more content to come from other areas
This is what the Disney + show should of been. Malgus would of been a good newish villain in live action Star Wars.
Please react to Pacific Rim the movie.
I love you by the way.
This was probably the weakest storyline from the Old Republic. If it was the intro into the game universe prior to the Sith War, it would have flowed better. It would have made a better introduction to Malgus as well.
I'll be honest this is my least favorite of all of them. I really disliked it when I first saw it, I've warmed up to it having watched it a few more times since and I do like it now, but it's still my least favorite of the swtor cinematics
The cinematography and all im no filmmaker lol but even though it looks really good it also looks very stylized almost disney like to me, maybe thats just me not liking change after the darker grittier style of the older ones. The fight choreography feels very different from most star wars as well, which is not necessarily bad the last one with Senya is pretty unique too but that seemed to show off more her character's style being unique rather than an overall change in the setting almost? Some cool stuff tho like catching the saber and the hand swap
The story itself I dont want to comment on too much, as I've not played the newest stuff maybe getting more of the current story there would change my mind the way knowing all the backstory for the others helps, but the last 2 cinematics do a very good job of having a hard hitting self contained story, and the first 3 show off and tease the larger world and events well. I guess to me it's like I dont really feel the connection between sahaar and her brother and master so the emotional impact doesnt quite hit as hard, you dont get a lot of time showing her and her brother or master
I do like that it's back to jedi and sith stuff at least.
+ as an extra bonus of that SMIRK as a response to not get killed by lightning (protected by artifact, not her prowess or being out of any harms way)
this made this cinematic the worst among all kotr cinematics (at least from choreography of fights) for me.
and, re watching this after getting introduced to disney sw acolite show: the trope of making jedi "not the force of the good" but a sect of child kidnappers as advertised by the jedi acolite series stated narrative; kills this cinematic for me totally...
Yeah, this one is a step down imo. Doesn't have the same punch as the previous two trailers. Bit of a bummer that they didn't continue in the same style. It's just a bit boring, this one isn't it?
I think it's very safe... which normally ends up being boring. It's not a video where you'd be like, guys... you've got to see this!
Yeah, I have very mixed feelings about this cinematic. The animation itself looks pretty, but the Cinematic looks like crap.
This is obviously worse than the previous cinematics, right? The gravitas and cinematic quality are clearly missing. I think the writing and creative teams were completely changed for this.
I totally get what you mean!
Knights of the Fallen Empire is my personal favorite story wise
Unlike the other cinematics made by Blur, this one was made by ILM.
@@luinthoronytb Thanks for the info, ILM certainly doesn't stand up to its former reputation.
