It's the same for me though for some reason! I grew up with Pokemon silver and only very rarely played Pokemon blue, which was my brother's game. Yet I somehow feel super nostalgic about Blue. Old designs probably do that to you.
Personally, I wouldn't say Red and Blue were "poorly made/programmed" at ALL. They were actually programming marvels back in the day, EXTREMELY impressive, and in a way more impressive than current stuff. The technology they had available to then was far more restrictive than you realize, but with clever use of it and excellent programming skills, they still made a solid game, especially for the time. And a Lot of games nowadays crash at the drop of a hat, or have very prominent bugs. Even pokemon games, like that game-breaking save glitch in X/Y. But in R/B/Y, not only are finding glitches by chance fairly rare, they programmed the game to avoid crashing as much as feesibly possible. That's why you can force all those crazy glitches and often STILL KEEP GOING in spite of them. The game does whatever it possibly can to keep chugging onwards. Damn impressively programmed game. (and before anyone says, gen 1 is one of my least favorites in the series, so i'm no genwunner, for sure,,)
Sincerity Nature if he thinks that western version of pokemon red and blue is bad he would be shocked to see the even more limited Japanese green and red - bad sprites, bad sound, even shorter name limits and a different victory road. Our release is actually based on a special edition version which tackled those shortcomings.
Fully agreed on it being very good in the programming department. Compare it to the concurrent SNES RPG games and the gen1 Pokemon games are pretty stellar.
Excellent point After at least 10 playthroughs on original R/B, I never stumbled onto a single glitch. True, I did the MissingNo glitch so many times it fried my first Red cartridge (or so 11yo me believed), but I had to learn about that from friends at school.
The creators even said that they crashed a couple computers while creating Pokémon and that they had to limit the game due to space on the cartridge at that time.
Agree. They were masterpieces in their time. There's a reason why everyone are pokemon fans now... It started from the bottom, now we're here.... With some new pokemon games that are worse.
That's all cool. What I always thought was the most interesting fact was how the beginning town is called "Pallet" Town (as in color pallet) and then all of the towns after this one are all named after colors. It's an obvious reference, but one that I didn't even think about until just this year.
dude I missed that holy shit! been playing since '99, i kinda gave the colours theme a bit if thought but didn't think it was every town and i didn't notice "pallet" at all... damn, 19 years later...
@@RavenLotz I'ts even more interesting when you realize that Pokemon was one of the first game to introduce color as a game boy game. It was advertised for the original gameboy (green and black), but if you put it into the gameboy color the game became colored.
Does it seriously matter if he's played Gen I as a kid? We're all Pokémon fans, nobody's immediately lower class if they've never played the first games.
For me, Splash will keep being the worst Gen 1 move, because at least reducing the Critical Hit chance it would be easier to catch pokemon because, if you find a rare wild pokemon there would be a chance of making a critical hit that would make the wild pokemon faint, but if you use Focus Energy, it would be better because you could at least leaving the pokemon with low HP with the move.
Wow. I've been playing Pokémon for ten years and I didn't know a lot of these. This wasn't your typical "Here's Ten Facts You Didn't Know Even Though People That Only Play Pokémon Go Wouldn't Know Them" video, this was actually really informative! Also I love how you openly ask for dislikes and use them as a measure of whether or not you did your job rather than just shamelessly asking for likes like many other RUclipsrs. I'll be sure to check out some of your other vids. Keep up the great work!
***** Gyarados is his original, creator-chosen name, unlike most of the English dub names, which are different localizations. Pikachu/Raichu, Caterpie/Butterfree, Kakuna, & several others, are similar. Many of the Pokemon's dub voices are in fact simply recycled clips from the original show, meaning that many of the Pokemon have the same voices worldwide. This makes me happy for some strange reason.
***** Yeah, I realized that when i wrote that comment. The first thing I think of is octopi and tentacles, and Gyarados' design is more of a sea serpent. XD
1. I knew about the laws for pachinko, but I didn't consider it's affect on the Pokemon games. 2. I knew that some Pokemon cries were duplicated by changing pitch and speed, but I didn't specifically know how many different ones there were. 3. I knew about Focus Energy, I guessed it instead of Splash because I knew better. 4. I did not know about Skullkraken. I'm going to have to name all my Gyarados that from now on. 5. I did not know about the other name changes either. 6. I did not know about the Nidorino cry at the beginning of the game. 7. I knew about the Phantom PC in the Celedon Hotel. 8. I knew about the Poke Doll glitch with the Lavender Tower Ghost. I even tested it in the 3DS Virtual Console version, and it still works. 9. I did not know about the mechanism for battle start transitions. I assumed they were random. 10. I've heard of the ZZAZZ Glitch, but have never really dug into how to do it or what it actually does. Well done, you actually taught me somethings about Pokemon. I'm pretty well versed in a lot of the obscure stuff about Generation 1, but you still showed me some new things.
I always thought the Poke doll glitch was done on purpose. I thought the ghost thought that the PokeDoll was it's baby Cubone and passed on knowing that her child was safe.
Yeah, me too. It actually came up on a walkthrough from a magazine, like it was official. "I thought the ghost thought that the PokeDoll was it's baby Cubone and passed on knowing that her child was safe." That's... a brilliant interpretation for it. Brilliant... and kind of sad, at the same time.
Actually, [adjusts nerd glasses], what happens behind the scenes in the last one is that those special values force an encounter with a glitch Pokémon usually referred to as Charizard M (because it uses Charizards sprite and the only part of its name that doesn't consist of random tiles is 'M), which makes the game think you're encountering a trainer battle (ish), not entirely sure why but I believe it has something to do with high Pokémon numbers actually representing trainers in Gen I somehow? This battle then (I believe Charizard M is directly responsible for the glitch but I could be wrong) causes the game to go haywire and write particular values (one of which is presumably 0x99, which is 153 in decimal) over certain regions of RAM, which is why nearly all Pokémon turn into level 153 Bulbasaurs with three explosions on their moveset and lots of status ailments, as well "ZZAZZAZZ". The crash at the end is probably just the engine choking on memory corruption.
I remember when i was young i actually thought using a pokedoll on the ghost was the way to progress in the game. Never understood you had to interact with the poster in the game corner :P
didn't know any of these apart from the four that talked about glitches, but usually I know everything in these types of videos. Keep up the good work! Also, tamashii hiroka footage in all of number one! did you get her permission to use it?
Serious question, How hard is it to do a 10 things you didn't know about a game that has been done many many times in the past? That being said... why am I seeing alot of youtubers with gaming chairs these days. I wish I was rich.
It means I have to work extra hard to find unique shit. That said, most people who do trivia really only dig surface deep, so as long as I put in the effort, it's decently easy to stand out. Also I'm about as far away from being rich as it's ever possible to get. xD I live below the Poverty Line. I'm just good at saving money for things I want.
I will admit some of the stuff you had was new to me, so that was nice, A friend of mine has a gaming chair, super awesome super comfortable. I wish I had one but I have no space. Also below the poverty line. *high fives* YAYE POVERTY!
Do your best to become a youtuber if that's what you want to do. It's not out of your reach no matter your situation. This guy is not rich. There's a lot of work that goes into these videos(I know, bc I want to be a youtuber myself) and it's more honest a living than many other things. Don't complain, get to it!
Nice vid! The only thing I knew was the PokeDoll thing. However, I wouldn't consider it a glitch since the only purpose a PokeDoll can have in Red and Blue.
+SavingPrivateBob i don't see it as a glitch either it seems more like an exploit the poke doll is working as intended hence not gliched but because it counts as a win when it is used in battle the game thinks you have beaten the marrowak. glitches are mistakes in coding that allow unintended things to happen, an exploit is using a feature or in this case item that works properly to do something unintended.
about fact #4 (the PC in the hotel): original pokemon designs (or game freak statements, I'm not quite sure) actually showed that, instead of having a pokemon center, the place to heal your pokemon would be a hotel, since most RPG's in that time typically had hotels for healing stations. They later changed it. It's possible that that hotel was one of the first 'pokécenters' they coded in very early on, and that they forgot to remove the PC once they scrapped the idea.
Jeez FINALLY! A list that actually has some stuff I didn't know! I knew quite a bit of these, about 3/4 of them, but you had stuff I didn't know. So that's great!
I knew everything in here, but I'm giving you a like anyway because it was well researched and you said that you never even played them until recently.
***** That only applies if you chose to play the game, I don't care about the game and if I see something I like, then I like it. If I dislike it, then I respond accordingly. That's like saying "the game" and if the other person isn't immediately suicidal because they lost "the game" then they should kill themselves for "not following the rules". The little game gimmick some peope are using are just a rough estimate for how many things were known by people, if they choose to play the game, I just like watching facts and trivia videos.
Let's look at the definition of basic: forming an essential foundation or starting point; fundamental. Sounds like assembly to me, the beginning of the multiple abstraction layers we have today.
Honestly I struggle to play them at all. They're good games in a general sense, a good story and a fun experience, but there's been so much advancement in Pokemon since then that RBY is really only good to me for playing with the glitches [I say this a gamer who started with yellow, then played red then blue in my youth.] A good hack of the remakes with the Physical/Special Split added in is my personal preference for getting a Kanto Fix.
+Knox I never wanted Pokemon GO so I started a Pokemon Blue campaign. when my friends wanted to go out to look for Pokemon this winter my response was always nah I'm skinny I don't need exercise I'll just play Pokemon on my game boy
Chad Laine I walked up to a kid in my school who said he was the biggest pokemon fan, so I asked him what games he had. He said 'go' and that's it. Fucking people man
A BOW for you, I cant believe I actually LEARNT SOMETHING NEW!!! like... absolute applause, and also thanks for the monstrous effort... yess, this has been made thousands of times, but dude... first time at least 5 things I didnt know A MAZING
Fella. Guy. Chum. This is a great video. You've got some serious talent and originality as a RUclipsr. I can tell you put a lot of effort into the research and recording for this and it paid off. Kudos!
That is very nice and polite that you don't care if someone gives you a dislike on your' video because they knew everything on the list but, you are already very good at these lists. Respect :) like
It's easy to be mean to people on the internet, isn't it? This is why kids are such dicks today, they don't realise what they're doing until they try the same shit in the real world.
+SavingPrivateBob I actually knew about these top 10. so I'm happy with my dislike. but regardless I still think he can do a better job at presenting himself.
I appreciated most of the list as moderately interesting trivia, the second to last was the prize winner for me, and though the last one was more like a bonus than a real entry, the commentary on that one made me laugh out loud so you've doubly earnt that like from me. Thank you
You did a great job!!! I know A LOT about Pokemon, but there were a few of these - over half - that I didn't know! Thanks! Also, well done! Also, congrats! - You just earn't yourself a new Subscriber! :D You seem pretty awesome, so... I'll binge-watch your videos for a while! XD
I'll give you a thumbs up - first, because you asked for it in a polite and reasonable manner, and second because apart from No. 1 (of which I knew by extension of the Mew/Ditto Glitch and Glitch City), I didn't know any of these facts. So I learned something. Thank you! :-)
@Syy did you know that in red and blue if you have the cindabar isles unlocked and have fly there is a glitch. Not only will this glitch spawn either a lvl 100+golduck and or mewtwo but will also make the 7th item in your bag potentially infinite? There is another par as to which a Pokemon named misingo will appear. The name simply refers to missing number. How to activate this glitch is quite simple. Talk to the old man in the city north of pallet town and watch him catch a Pokemon. Then without moving fly to cindabar isles and surf on the east side of the town along the coast going north and south and not in any other direction. BEWARE!!! If you catch misingno your game will crash and will potentially corrupt your save file.
good video :) good to hear that u tried the classic games.. I expected to know everything you were going to mention but I didn't knew about the transitioning yet :P
I love how Syy says "If you knew every fact before watching, you can give me a dislike, guilt free!" He's like 'If I screwed up, you can give me a dislike! Iss awriiiiite!'
In fact #8, focus energy shouldn't really be considered uselss since it lowers crit ratio. What if you are trying to catch a pokemon without having it faint, but you don't want to accidently have a critical hit? In this case, focus energy would actually be useful and thus 95% of viewers are correct once again in saying that splash is useless, since it literally does nothing.
Awesome video. I only knew about half of the things you mentioned. My choice would be PokéMonth. Rolls off the tongue. :) Also, I would strongly suggest against telling people to dislike your video as that tells RUclips's algorithm to skip over your videos.
I only knew 1 of them (the Cubone's mother one) and I usually called myself a 1st gen expert xD But the one that hurt my pride as one the most is the one with the nidorina cry at the opening sequence. Great job man, awesome video.

+SavingPrivateBob lol i watch a lot of speedruns of games and many glitchless runs still use exploits so i picked up the difference from them
The purpose of a PokeDoll is to flee safely, no matter what you encounter.

Assembly is not a basic language, its very difficult because you are directly programming memory addresses.
StinkeeCheese I literally scrolled all this way down the comments to see if anyone else had picked up on this.
StinkeeCheese What he meant was probably not about the difficulty of creating the game but about the quality of the end result.
Let's look at the definition of basic:
forming an essential foundation or starting point; fundamental.
Sounds like assembly to me, the beginning of the multiple abstraction layers we have today.
If I'm not mistaken, the term "basic" when referring to programming is talking about the act of coding at the hardware level, AKA 1's and 0's.
I'm so glad other programmers roasted this kid so i didn't have to lmao

Ok, I have seen a lot videos like this, but you took it to another level man. Congruts! And thank you!
I Loved the #1 thing the Glitch I Laughed so hard I tried to hold in the LOL but I couldn't That you and I didn't know any of those cool facts...
"It's name is now Random Shit M Random Shit"
1st Video I ever watched from you, and Sir /tips hat NICE content ! and Congratulations on a new Subscriber ! :D
That was cool !
Every poser got into red and blue after pokemon go.
Knox I honestly cant play these games on the original gameboy. I hate the black and white, so I play it on Gameboy color.
Honestly I struggle to play them at all.
They're good games in a general sense, a good story and a fun experience, but there's been so much advancement in Pokemon since then that RBY is really only good to me for playing with the glitches [I say this a gamer who started with yellow, then played red then blue in my youth.]
A good hack of the remakes with the Physical/Special Split added in is my personal preference for getting a Kanto Fix.
+Knox I never wanted Pokemon GO so I started a Pokemon Blue campaign. when my friends wanted to go out to look for Pokemon this winter my response was always nah I'm skinny I don't need exercise I'll just play Pokemon on my game boy
I grew up playing pokemon red on the original gameboy. It was much simpler times.
Chad Laine I walked up to a kid in my school who said he was the biggest pokemon fan, so I asked him what games he had. He said 'go' and that's it. Fucking people man
A BOW for you, I cant believe I actually LEARNT SOMETHING NEW!!!
like... absolute applause, and also thanks for the monstrous effort... yess, this has been made thousands of times, but dude... first time at least 5 things I didnt know
A
MAZING
As soon as you asked for a thumbs down because it would be deserving if you didn't fulfill your purpose with this video, I had to sub.
ClemencyStudio That's the moment you know when a youtuber is cool.
I actually didn't know about a few of those, that's a first on those types of lists so really nice job mate!
Are you assuming Nidorino's gender?
i died
Yes he is. Safe space is this wayyyy-----------------------> ..!..
Begone degenerate go question gender somewhere else that is not here
Dude whenever I hear any soundtrack from this game anywhere I tear up a bit
did you just call it the Sliph scope? ;-;
did you not see the text on the screen after it?
+Arcona Oh. No, I didn't spot that at all... Still ridiculous how he got it wrong though!
True.
Fella. Guy. Chum.
This is a great video.
You've got some serious talent and originality as a RUclipsr. I can tell you put a lot of effort into the research and recording for this and it paid off. Kudos!
thats why i sometimes failed on guess the sound... fucking goldeen xD
fact 2 blew my mind tbh
I came here without any hope of hearing something new, but you managed to surprise me big time.
Thumbs up :)
I never felt like I was going to be raped while watching a RUclips Video before now.
Tf is you talking bout
That is very nice and polite that you don't care if someone gives you a dislike on your' video because they knew everything on the list but, you are already very good at these lists. Respect :) like
can I dislike just by the way you present yourself?
If you want to, that's entirely your decision to make.
Kevin Vu You spend too much time alone, you're crazy.
I appreciated most of the list as moderately interesting trivia, the second to last was the prize winner for me, and though the last one was more like a bonus than a real entry, the commentary on that one made me laugh out loud so you've doubly earnt that like from me. Thank you
omg! I laughed so hard at that last fact!!!!!!!!! x'D LOVED IT! deserves a thumb-up from me! ;D
Not the full 10, but 9 things I didn't already know. I'm seriously impressed!!
How Did You 1st Discover The Invisible PC?
You did a great job!!! I know A LOT about Pokemon, but there were a few of these - over half - that I didn't know! Thanks! Also, well done!
Also, congrats! - You just earn't yourself a new Subscriber! :D
You seem pretty awesome, so... I'll binge-watch your videos for a while! XD
Throwback to when Syy was in his youtube prime! Covering content that a lot of people love with his excellent script and video editing
Fact #1 earned you a thumbs up from me. I knew quite a bit about Pachinko parlors in Japan, but not the seperate building part.
This is the first video I've ever seen that shows things I didn't know. Like, I didn't know a single thing you explained. That was awesome!
I knew all of these, but I gave a like anyways because you did a good job and put hard work into it. :D
LMAOOOO the #1 had me in tears!! Well done 👍
I doubt 2k people knew all of these and they just disliked the video cause homie actually did his job like he said. Great job man!
*Splash:* "I'm the worst move in the game, I don't do anything! No move can be worse than me!!"
*Focus Energy:* "Hold my beer."
Good video. Idk why RUclips has the most haters of any social media. Keep doing you!
great video bro! definitly do a dedication to Pokemon!
good video :) good to hear that u tried the classic games.. I expected to know everything you were going to mention but I didn't knew about the transitioning yet :P
The blastoise waking up bit killed me! So funny 😂
Also, I would strongly suggest against telling people to dislike your video as that tells RUclips's algorithm to skip over your videos.
really enjoy your video man. i been a pokemon fan sense the early 90's and i didnt know none of this .
That was a phenomenal video. Haven't heard of a lot those facts and I have been looking up pokemon stuff probably since I could get on the internet.
I'm shocked I actually DIDNT know some of these. You earned a subscribe for doing some serious digging.
You got me liking since number 10, congratulations!!!
I already knew everything, but I did learn that you make great content, so I liked and subbed.
i liked this video and subbed because of how honest u were at the beggning about letting us dislike if we really didnt.. top lad.
Alright you caught me with the "Skullkraken" bit. You have earned your like.
You're strive for good informative content is respectable. It's very uncommon to find that on youtube nowadays.
I have played the gen 1 games off and on since about 1999 and I had never seen any of these. Well done sir!
I like to think giving the pokedoll wasn't a glitch. you're giving it a facimile of its baby and its moving on
I only knew 1 of them (the Cubone's mother one) and I usually called myself a 1st gen expert xD But the one that hurt my pride as one the most is the one with the nidorina cry at the opening sequence. Great job man, awesome video.
I didn't know the thing about the screen transitions. It's been almost 20 years and I'm still learning new things about Pokemon Red and Blue.
I've played Pokemon since 1998 and aside from maybe hearing about the game corner thing at some point, I didn't know any of this. Well done
You know, I really respect the gambit you pulled at the beginning. I didn't know the first thing on the list, so here's a like. :)
Heck, I didn't know most of these. Nice video!
