    Don't feel bad. I used all of your tricks to fix my 2014 Jetta S. All the different sizes of everything. It's like they had extra parts and just slapped this car together. Thanks for doing this video. It helped with my swap and I am sure it will help others

    Debating on if I want to do this or just take it somewhere. Have done brakes many times, but just tired of messing with it haha. Haven’t done the VW yet though.

    Don't be discouraged, you'll need those triple-squares elsewhere; like removing the rear axle bolt (takes a 16m and a whole lot of torque). Got a set of Titan 14, 16, & 18m (lifetime guarranty) at O'Reilly's for $13.

    Beautiful video but I got to change pads on the 14 jetta today after work😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫. What clamp pushes the caliper in for seating of pads. Cause Im afraid the reg. C clamp wont do the job 😮...⁉️

      For the rear calipers, the piston needs to rotate while it's pushed back in. This is because of the way the parking brake self adjusts as the pads wear. I have done them with a c-clamp and pair of channel locks before. It's a PITA and the risk of tearing the boot with the pliers is quite high.

    can you show where you placed the jack?

    • @smsauce

      It's hard for me to tell skipping around the video. We sold the car last year, but usually, when I have a jack in that spot in the rear, it's under the shock mount. It usually slips in right next to the tire, and since the suspension is being pushed up, it takes very little lift to bring the tire off the ground. When I do brakes, I usually skip using jackstands and just throw the tire under the car for backup. If I'm going under the car with my body, I lift higher and use jackstands.

    Please tell me the rotor on the 2015 Passat can just slide out like that as well. I’ve hear that does 14mm triple square bolts are tuff to get out if you don’t have the car on a lift?

    • @smsauce
      @smsauce  3 года назад

      I don't know for sure if they will or not. I have not done any work on a modern passat. If a lift helps, I bet the right combo of swivels and extensions with a long ratcheting breaker bar will do the trick.

      @@smsaucedidn’t have access to a lift. So I hope I can slide it out. ok thanks for your reply.

      I own a 2011 jetta SEL and a 2013 Passat SE; both have the 272mm rotors and require caliper carrier removal. Either the top or bottom bolt is more difficult to remove, so you'll need an extension. Torquing those sobs is a whole lot of fun. Stay safe

    • @superxpro12

      i had to use a jack to push up on the breaker bar to get enough torque to break the triple square carrier bolt loose on one of them. There was simply no other way if on jackstands. Being on a lift would have been tremendously simpler. All the others i was able to get with a breaker bar + sand hammer, or a 1/2 impact wrench.

    What is the size of rotors that go on a 2014 jetta ? Is this a tdi

    • @smsauce
      @smsauce  10 месяцев назад

      Rears are probably all the same size, but there are different front sizes. I would see what FCPEuro shows for your trim level.
      When I did the fronts on this car I accidentally ordered rotors and pads for a TDI wagon and the rotor is slightly larger diameter.

    Any thoughts on just doing a pad slap if the rotors look ok?

    • @smsauce
      @smsauce  3 года назад +1

      I've done that plenty of times if they don't pulse at all. Just check what the minimum thickness should be for the rotor. Sometimes new rotors are cheaper than places charge to turn the ones down smooth, but I also know a guy with a machine that works for bourbon :D

      I have another comment from you in my notifications about arms hands and feet that is pretty funny but it doesn't show here. Did you delete or somebody reported it? I've had a few comments like that and I'm trying to figure out why I can see the notification but they are not in the comments section. Thanks for any insight!
