One of my all time favorite crime thrillers, beautifully directed by Spike Lee! Denzel Washington and Clive Owen give incredible performances, and Clive’s Dalton Russell is so fun to watch. The monologue he gives at the beginning of the movie is forever burned into my head, because of the brilliant layers to it.
And honestly, if I were a cop, I’d probably let them get away with it. Not only did this case lead to the takedown of a war criminal, but no one got killed and the only thing that was stolen was the blood diamonds.
Also I freaking loved the kid who was my age at the time when I saw it, “Nah, I’m from Brooklyn”🤣🤣🤣🤣👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

The motivation for Clive Owen's character taking the diamonds was he (or the other people in the SUV in the end) were related to the Jewish family that Glenn Plummer's character stole them from. Fyi, the phone you was trying to figure out the name of was the Sidekick 😊.

  • @robertfisher8359

Toward the end, talking about the guy who took off his mask, was mouthing off, and got beat up was, indeed, one of the robbers. Additionally, one thing that yall didn't seem to spot (or at least comment on until the VERY end) is the fact that there was a bank employee working with the robbers (hence the title "Inside Man"). Their inside man also explains why the information about the diamonds and documents got leaked. The inside man was the Jewish "rabbi." They don't give the rabbi away until you see him in the van at the end with all the other robbers.

Oh My God! For fans of AMA this must be a dream come true! Finally some of the bigger reaction channels picking up on awesome overlooked action thrillers or bank heist movies like this one. First The Equalizer (2014), then Law Abiding Citizen (2009), now Inside Man (2006)! But I can tell you, there are SO MANY more similar movies starring ALL RECOGNIZABLE NAMES, some directed by Antoine Fuqua, some by David Ayer. I've got plenty of examples like: Swordfish (2001) starring Hugh Jackman, Phone Booth (2002) starring Colin Farrell, S.W.A.T. (2003) with Jeremy Renner but also plenty of others, Out of Time (2003) starring Denzel Washington, Cellular (2004) starring Chris Evans, Harsh Times (2005) starring Christian Bale, Hostage (2005) starring Bruce Willis, Shooter (2007) starring Mark Wahlberg, Vantage Point (2008) with Matthew Fox but also plenty of others, Street Kings (2008) (very rough) starring Keanu Reeves and also Chris Evans, Safe House (2012) starring Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington! Actually a decent financial hit! More bank heist: Takers (2010) starring Idris Elba, Man on a Ledge (2012) starring Sam Worthington, Stolen (2012) starring Nicolas Cage. And MANY more like you could Imagine!

Trying to ignore the big boobs would be like trying to ignore one of the hostage takers was seven feet tall. They’re a physical characteristic. One of my best friends told me I need more sun, because I’m whiter than a fishes belly. A physical characteristic just like her having brown skin. It would be wrong to say we don’t notice these things. Big boobs doesn’t mean their owner has been sexually objectified, and white skin isn’t racist abuse when it’s from a girl who to all intents and purposes adopted me as a father.

Funny how 2006 is mentioned like it was a lifetime ago. Amazon branched out to sell basically "everything" several years before then.
When interrogating the Sikh, Denzel Washington ad-libbed the line about how he doesn't have trouble hailing a taxi, and Spike Lee immediately laughed out loud, almost ruining the take so he had to cut the shot right after he said it. He mentions this in the commentary track.
This movie was very uncharacteristic of Spike Lee's most popular work but his trademarks are all over it, in cinematography, dialogue and that discussion about the video game. The pizza boxes that were delivered had "Sal's" on it, the pizzeria from "Do the Right Thing," as if Sal moved from to Manhattan from Brooklyn.

This is one of my all time favourite films.
Clive Owen (Dalton Russell, AKA Mr. Bank Robber) is a very underrated actor. I have enjoyed everything of his that I've seen, and his involvement with this film is why I initially watched it. Typically speaking I hate heist films, but I really love this one.
    As for the perfect plan,
There were five people involved. These were,
Dalton Russell. AKA Mr. Bank Robber. (Clive Owen).
Valerie Keepsake. AKA Stevie. (Kim Director).
Darius Peltz. AKA Steve-O. (James Ransome).
Kenneth Damerjian. AKA Steve. (Carlos Andrés Gómez).
Chaim, The older Jewish Gentleman. (Bernie Rachelle). He is the inside man.
Russell had each of his people take turns posing as hostages. This was so that legitimate hostages would vouch for them once the police came in. When one was in with the hostages, Chaim would stand in as a guy in the background, maintaining the illusion that there were always four robbers. This is why they were always shuffling some hostages from room to room. This would let then swap in their people, and switch them out again.
If you pay attention during the fake execution there are the four robbers and one hostage on the screen, meaning that all five of the robbers were involved in creating this illusion. However there are about nine people in paintersuits om the camera. As far as everyone, both inside and outside the bank, knows, Dalton just executed a hostage. Now those inside are going to be more compliant, as the stakes have just been raised. It's no longer robbery, but homicide. Russell just needs a little time to finish his hidey hole.
The reason for removing everyones clothes was so that any evidence that got on just the paintersuits. By manhandling the hostages during room transfers, this would cause transfer from one paintersuit to another of any evidence. Their own clothes were in the beg with everyone elses clothes. Their phones were with everyone elses.
The hole was so that they could hook up water and power into Russell's hideout. As well as serve as a toilet for Russell, what goes in must come out. With the diamonds, and documents secured, Russell goes into hiding. His team then walks out the front door, along with the hostages. As each of his team members have been seen by several hostages and also can vouch for each other, they all now have alibis as hostages. Russell has the documents to ensure that Case will do all he can to protect him should he face a judge.
One of the interesting things about this film is that Frazier (Denzel Washington) spends half the film protesting that he's not corrupt, but tthen at the end keeps the diamond. This, plus the promotion, are all to ensure his silence, but from different parties. So, Frazier is corrupt. He may not have stolen the $140K that he was being investigated for, but he'll look the other way, and profit, on this one.

  • @surlycanadian
    @surlycanadian Год назад +1

The diamonds have nothing to do with Arthur’s war crimes. They are his diamonds that he keeps in his safety deposit box.
The reason he kept the ring and the incriminating Nazi documents is because he felt guilty for collaborating and being part of the Nazi’s reign of terror in Europe. He kept them as a reminder of what he did and as motivation to do as much good as he could afterward with charities.

The phrase "Murder will Out" is from the Russian Novel 'Crime and Punishment', written by Dostoevsky and published in 1866. Every Ivy league college graduate has to have read that Novel, along with a few of us peasants. A little trivia on that - the Television Series Columbo from t he 1970's was based upon the detective that solved the double murder that the Novel portrays. it's 484 pages long, but worth the read. By the way, this comment is from a Computer Engineer that almost flunked out of Middle School because a below-average reading level. We all have to eventually face our weaknesses.

"Inside Man" is also about New Yorkers, it's diversity and attitudes. The Grand Central question is very real!
Another good Spike Lee joint is "Da 5 Bloods." It was one of Chadwick Boseman's final performances.
Another underrated Denzel movie (imo) is "The Bone Collector." It's got Angelina Jolie in it.
Another New York state of mind (among crooks) is stealing from the rich and keeping it.
Cox comb or crown is whats on a roosters head.

This is one of my faves, strong performances throughout. A really good heist/caper movie. And the re-watch bonus factor is high; there's enough foreshadowing to tell you most of what you need to know. Like, "Perfectly Planned Painting. We NEVER Leave Until The Job Is Done." And the Jewish guy (seen in the SUV when Dalton finally emerges) is implied to be behind the heist; so there's implied "Jewish-Revenge-Against-Nazis" angle. The one major plot hole (correctly pointed out) was Case hanging onto major criminal evidence in a safe deposit box for decades.

I think the diamonds were just loose diamonds like ones removed from ring settings so they were untraceable so I don't think they would be able to return them anyway.

I think another underrated heist film similar to this is "The bank job" with Jason Statham.

I don't recall the diamonds being related to banker's history, just the ring and the document, but it's been a long time since I watched this movie. There was at some point talk of a sequel for this, but I don't know what happened with that, probably a casualty of covid.

Funny thing about central european languages they theorized about - albanian, polish and hungarian are as close and similar to each other, as they are to english. Actually, polish or albanian are closer to english, than to hungarian, which is not even indo-european language. Relative geographic proximity doesn't corespondent with linguistic one. And anyone who actually heard those languages and has basic understanding of linguistics can easily say they don't sound similar.

The stolen diamonds at the end have an insurance...or the bank who is the one who "lost" them has to pay the owne, which means the bad old bank guy loses some money...ergo the cop can keep his diamond
