      @@Z4ven no. A monster wouldn't feel regret. And they wouldn't call the cops on themselves. He was an abused kid who thrown in a cage almost half his life and was kicked on the streets with nothing and nobody. His father was an abusive crackhead. He clearly needed help but the system is about money not people. Had he gotten the help he desperately needed this probably wouldn't have happened at all. Not saying he should get off Scott free or that what he did isn't unforgivable. It is. But the system and surrounding adults failure also played a role in that kids death.

    Gotta love the Of Mice and Men dynamic they used here with Carl and Nick (George and Lennie). Right down to the dream of the farm and subsequent loss of that dream due to the character's temper/violent outbursts.

      Lennie didnt have violent outbursts, he was a complete innocent. The world always treated him as an incapable child and thats how he thought of himself, he didnt understand his own strength.

    • @needtoread7760
      @needtoread7760 2 месяца назад +26

      @@natcole5981 (sorry, novel incoming!) I don't mean intentionally violent--as George constantly reaffirms, with everything Lennie does, none of it is done with malice or "meanness." Rather, it is more in line with a child showing an angry/frustrated outburst. As we get older, we get better at managing our emotions, and likewise, impulses, but Lennie is incapable of doing so, which is why he is still innocent.
      Likewise, Nick, while certainly not innocent in the conventional sense, is still tragically empathetic since he is a product of his environment and past circumstances, incapable of rising above the trauma and violent coping strategies life has dealt him.
      Definitely a very different character from Lennie, but the dynamic between him and Carl felt familiar with a slight nod perhaps to Steinbeck, but still very much its own thing.

    Nick even said it, it was not about the bike. As a kid, he had a bike that he own but his dead beat drug addict of a dad stole it from him and sold it. He loved that bike because I think when he rides it he got nothing to worry about and is free. I think that what the bike represent, his freedom. So when his bike got stolen, he may have felt his freedom being stolen. Again. He killed the kid as to reclaim his freedom but in reality it's what going to cost his freedom. Sad part was, it was never shown if the kid really stole his bike or somebody stole his bike and sold it to the kid.

      Seeing his character arc throughout the show. I’ve always noticed a stark difference between his and that of Lips.
      Lip was the one everyone thought was going to make it out of that house. Because how smart he was but ended up colossally wasting all his potential. And was constantly denying everything that Fiona had done for them, even before the bigger fuck ups she made later in the series. It doesn't matter how chill you are at the end of the day. We're all humans. You are going to get angry every once in a while, but unfortunately, for Nick, he let his anger take full control over him. 😔

      That’s also another aspect of emotional/mental disorders. They don’t always act out of “anger”,sometimes they think they’re being reasonable or justified. Sometimes they don’t even remember or understand what they were feeling or thinking.

    I'm sick of seeing people defend Nick. I spent my life dirt poor with nothing to my name. Took me till I was in my 40's before I had a life I could be proud of. At NO POINT did this ever cross my mind. Having morals is not a race thing or an income thing. Anyone who does this is a psychopath.... Nick just hid it well.

    I have not sat down and watched a full episode of shameless I’ve just seen bits and pieces so I don’t know why cause these clips keep showing up on my Facebook algorithm. They keep showing up on Instagram. I have no fucking idea why. but I did search this because this clip popped up on Facebook. I did look up the synopsis of the show so I know all about Carl’s gang life and drug dealing phase. I really wanna say this was a wake up call this was him truly seeing mental illness and childhood trauma for what the fuck it was. Let this had been retaliation from another gangbanger not justified either but understandable. This was all over a bike And he even told him it’s not worth it. Let him just took the bike back and maybe smashed up the windows and robbed the house for the last little bit of money, that we get. But he literally killed a child for that bike. I mean, he had already explained that his father beat him as a child for asking for a bike and then when he saved up his own money and got to buy himself, his father stole it and sold it. And he got locked up for brutally assaulting his father. And all he cared about was getting that fucking bike back. At least Nick did the right thing called the police and turned himself in. I’m assuming we never saw him again after this. Because there is definitely no coming back. I hate that this had to be Carl’s wake up call to get his life together. I know the series ends with him becoming a cop which is great. He can help people like Nick.

      It's just a bike, he didn't need to kill the kid to take it back. As far as I'm concerned, Nick is the monster not the bike thief. Murderers are worse than thieves. Because most thieves don't kill people

    • @oneeyedking7278
      @oneeyedking7278 Месяц назад

      @TimberlakeTigerGirl I see ur point. I just cannot sympathize at all since he reaped what he sowed. Young kid already stealing at a young age does not set a good precedent for his future. Bicycle now, car and armed robbery in the future. Just don't steal someone's bike or anything for that matter.

    • @TimberlakeTigerGirl
      @TimberlakeTigerGirl Месяц назад +6

      @oneeyedking7278 Well he didn't actually steal it. Nicks dad stole it and sold it for money. Whose to say how the kid got a hold of it, but it was probably fair and square. And you are being extremely hypocritical; saying that the kid wouldn't change. I've known kids who stole stuff and, after being in juvie, turned their lives around as adults.
