He didn't even sit with them in the audience. I imagine it's like that really awkward feeling you get when you're about to quit your job, but no one knows yet, so you have to kinda keep going at work, even though you know that you're done.
And That's Where Jason Decided To Leave lol. When they won the video award you can see how distant James and Jason were. I think James felt an awkward vibe. This song was very fitting for Jason. He needed the air to set him free. That is the best I've ever heard that song played Live. Wow. Well they've all overcame a lot. They happy where they are now.
Well, he decided before this. But he did know that this would be his last time playing with them. There's a really good interview with Jason here on RUclips where he reveals a lot of stuff. He said that he called Lars (and I believe Kirk) to let them know before he brought it to the attention of the band (ie. James). But yeah, it's interesting how he didn't sit with them in the audience.
This was a sad day indeed. But Trujillo also bringing the Burton vibe back into the band and also influencing james,Lars n Kirk embracing their roots again. Its a power play. Trujillo is calm with unshaken core. He doesnt care if Metallica fired him anyday because he is a well known studio sessionist and Sharon Osbourne will take in Trujillo anyday if Metallica sack him.So for Metallica to have Trujillo in their camp is a bless.
So tight and so well played. No better way to show us how much they lost with Jason leaving. They instantly ceased to play like that, started to be sloppy, not really caring any more etc. Still a great band but this last show with Jason is to me like the breaking point, where nothing was the same anymore.
They did very light touring for Re-Load and Garage Inc, and when they did tour for Garage Inc, songs from that release were weighed on more, so the opportunity for Metallica playing live in general, especially their older stuff, was somewhat truncated by design.
For me, they became whole new addictions once I got clean. I got the majority of my work when I quit using 5 years ago. It's like a new addiction that is also therapy. I enjoy the pain and it is a release for me. Tattoos are a hell of a lot better than what I was doing.
I'm not really sure, because I've never had an addiction and having to fight it,but I think one way of fighting it is finding other types of outlets for your mind and energy, hobbies. In the case of James,he loves playing music,he loves drawing and he is a fan of tattoos. These things keep his sanity and act as distractions from real life instead of alcohol.
7:15 - The three rotating guys from Who's Line is it Anyway lol. It's interesting to note, looking back, after hearing Jason talking about how he knew this was the last time he would ever play with Metallica again, he didn't sit with them in the audience.
If you look at Jason throughout, you can see him playing with a sadness and intensity uncommon for him, as it was clear he'd decided to leave the band at that point, though nobody else knew that at the time.
Art Vandelay ...lol, I like Jason, but Trujillo has brought back that Cliff Burton bass sound (Kirk literally says in Some Kind of Monster, it hasn't been played like that since Cliff) and musicianship that the other band members respect. There's a reason why Jason only contributed to about 3 songs in those years with Metallica, Lars and James didn't respect his creative side.
Jason certainly had a stage presence, but as Francisco mentioned, Rob brought back that Cliff vibe to their sound. Rob was also the one that encouraged the band to dig deep into their old catalog and start playing a lot of songs from their early days that they hadn't played in a while. And when you look at the two albums that Rob has played on, they are the thrashiest albums they've released since Justice.
metallica has sucked balls after 1993. when they asked jason in an interview what his fav songs were on load and reload he couldn't name any. prob because they all suck ass. jason is a true thrash metal player and prob got the fuck out of there when he saw how lame his band was by 2000 along with all the other reasons why he left.
+Fraiture Interesting how when Jason was in the band, their albums became less and less thrash. Then Rob joined, and Metallica put out their two thrashiest albums since Justice.
I just wanna say, Kirk Hammett is sounding awesome. I mean like awesome y’all know what was going on at that time. Just put it this way Jason‘s cool. I think there was a dialogue between Hammett and Newstead‘s performance. 😎
No, they should’ve said thank you Jason Cliff is smiling we’re going to go back in on And justice for All album and add some bass tracks. Did anybody notice that Jason said thank the fans after James Hetfield I believe said who should we thank my God Jason was being real cool and respectful.
ptschafer yup.And I cam about 1 and half years later. My dad introduced me to Metallica and Ricky Martin . But I loved Metallica more. My most favorite album of Metallica was Ride The Lighting
And on 2003 comeback with st anger and Trujillo , st anger is not a bad record just have the snare wrong sound and without the solos on Europe st anger have better reception and the rey is history
I'm getting sick of this Jason-worship. He is a great bassist but some people act like he invented Metallica and all the music that came with it. James and Lars dictate almost all of the music, usually have. Cliff had influence on some of the early stuff, but to act like the albums, especially the first 4, are lost to Metallica now because Jason is gone makes no sense at all.

not true. he is amazing in 2003 with lots of double bass
He's focking amazing on fade to black
after 2009 Nimes is when he died
You forgot James's anger and Kirk's playing.
Completely agree. They all lost something during the time off before st anger
Aw, Jason hugging Kirk so closely when they got up to receive their award. Heartbreaking :( he knew he was going away forever...
You can tell Jason doesn't wanna be up there

What does Lars and Bo Duke have in common? Put pretty women all around them and they will show off!
I love that drum set, sounds better than the orange.
Julian Medrano its the same drum set
He had the white one, green, orange and now the purple one.
*sounds better than the purple
Oh Jason, I miss you, buddy
Liaz Med the only decent comment on this video, and it has zero likes, bullshit! I'll like it for you dude!

They would never play Fade to Black 97-00, so this was a pretty big deal.
They did very light touring for Re-Load and Garage Inc, and when they did tour for Garage Inc, songs from that release were weighed on more, so the opportunity for Metallica playing live in general, especially their older stuff, was somewhat truncated by design.
