I typically stay away from anything "puff stitch" because it's so time consuming to me. This definitely didn't take me an hour lol but turned out cute and so glad I went ahead and made it. Great pattern and great instruction. Thank you!
Thanks so much for sharing. Great step by step tutorial . I made one for my teenage daughter but it’s a bit too tight for her so I’m gonna make a larger one next time around. 🙏🏻💐💜
Hi Kate, Honestly I did make the second one of this design, but I’d make the “brim” longer than 54 rows and measure around the adults head to see it fit. I hope this helps you.
I love the look of this hat. I am currently on row 5 of the puff stitches. Can you tell me why the hat keeps getting bigger and bigger in circumference? It's looking like it's puffing out like a mushroom.. I'm following exactly what you did.
Glad you liked it 🥰 This is completely normal. The puff stitch makes body bigger than the brim and that's why I said that you don't need to crochet the body with a larger hook than the brim.
This is completely normal. The puff stitch makes body bigger than the brim and that's why I said that you don't need to crochet the body with a larger hook than the brim.
Mine didn't look anything like the shape of the video's final product. My puffs made.my hat look like I added puffs to every row, growing MUCH wider row by row; looked like I was making a slouch hat.
@@miniaturehorse303yup. Mine as well. It's still cute, but does not look like this. Looks like a slouchie beanie that flares out. I did use the same size hook for the brim and the puffs, so I don't know what happened.
I saw several comments about the hat widening at the top. It sounds like increases are being added to each row on accident. Two areas I noticed may be tempting to add stitches is when completing the second puff stitch of an pair and when completing the first puff stitch of each new row. 1. After completing the second puff stitch for each pair, CHAIN ONE, to secure puff, then go straight to the next pair. You Only chain two in between the first puff stitch and second puff stitch of each pair, not when going from one pair of puff stitches to the next. 2. After you do the very first puff stitch of each new row, CHAIN ONE to secure the puff, then go straight to your next pair. Don’t accidentally chain two and add a stitch here. Each of these mistakes will increase the size of the hat by 1 to several stitches each row, causing that mushroom/slouch hat look. Also, make sure you distribute those initial single crochets on the brim evenly and count them to make sure they’re a multiple of three. Hope this helps and happy crocheting!!
I have finished the hat but I'm not sure if I used the correct yarn It took me a skein and a half and I'm certain it will be EXTREMELY HOT I also realized if you turn the hat brim up it looks like a child's skirt I posted it on my Facebook page in Hobby Lobbys Parisian Light and asked what it looked like I got a couple of answers a blanket and a bag Can anyone tell me what weight yarn they used?
A good question- is the brim thinner then the rest of the hat? I have a big head and only thick hats look good on me. Is it possible to knit the whole hat with that pattern but skipping the pattern of the brim so that the whole hat is the same thickness
No, the brim is as thick as the puffs. I doubt the hat would have or hold the structure of the puffs. The brim is worked as a SC in the back loops only, creating a thicker (sturdier than regular SC stitches) style brim.
I tried this one and getting an exactly same this, but the quality of the crochet is bit lower than yours. Thanks for giving this class, where u purchase this material
please, Y'all, can you tell me why my hat flares out when doing the puffs? I have tried three times. Any suggestions are welcome since this is to be a Christian present. ❣
@englishsassenach, I've tried something with success. I did brim with #5 hook (caron cinnamon cake, color hibiscus recommends , #5), I changed to a 4.50 hook for puff body. I also changed the skipping between puff sets. I did: beginning of every row the half of puff set sk 2 sts 1 puff SET Sk 2 sts 1 puff set sk 2 sts 1 puff set SKIP 3 stitches and repeated until the decrease process until the joining of the beginning of puff row. From there you just do the puff sets as in the video. It doesn't alter the size of the brim but tightened up the excess I was getting and tore out twice.
Great tutorial 👍 Thanks! I made one hat and I absolutely love it 😊
I tried this beanie yesterday and I m so happy that it really looks great .
Thank you so much for teaching us step by step how to crochet this beautiful beanie! Each and every stitch/ step was clearly explained!

I make it ... believe me, it's the easiest design to make, and it looks really really gorgeous 😍

This was very easy to follow and understand. Thank you so much!
Love this hat! I would also like to suggest one last row of one puff stitch per space (9), without any chains between.
Thanks so much for sharing. Great step by step tutorial .

I want to make an adult size. How did you modify the pattern?

Mine did too. But I found when you decreased the stitches it forms well. I made one tonight for my mother in law.
I’m having this same issue. I was thinking maybe it’s my yarn but who knows. I’m new to crocheting 😅😂
It is supposed to flare out it’s the style of the hat but when u start to decrease it will go back in and turns out cute.
