So psyched to premiere our film on ALTER! We shot the first half of the film at 7000 feet elevation in the winter, so it was a legit adventure behind the camera as well as onscreen. Would love to answer any questions about the story, how we made it, or anything else that seems of interest, so post here if you're curious.
Hi great video. Was this released on Alter previously last year sometime? I saw it before but not sure was it Alter or another RUclips page? Great work
This, I know, is genuinely not how this film is supposed to be interpreted, but how that dad wanders off and knows he’s sick, but then all of a sudden snaps back and asks what he was doing? That reminds me so much of my grandfather when his Alzheimer’s started, and it just got worse. I convinced myself it would get better and that the doctors would “fix” him, but I knew in my heart that the end was coming. I really enjoyed this film, it touched my heart and brought back good and bad memories. It shows how much we love, and want to hold onto the people we love - even if we know they’re already gone. It shows that some people (the little sister) acknowledged his fate quicker than the older sister was willing to. Bittersweet. Thank you 🙏🏻
Hey Anma, thanks for sharing that. ❤️believe it or not, I actually modeled the progression on that disease. My grandmother had Alzheimer’s as well, for about the last ten years and I spent a lot of time with her during that period. What I saw from her with the struggle to hold on and the frustration of not being able to do so really informed what we did with the dad character in the film.
Thank you!! I love that moment too. It was actually going to be the opening scene when I wrote it, then we changed it in the edit because it had so much tension and we wanted to build there :)
I'm not usually big on horror movies, but this one totally got me with real emotions that tugged at my heart strings. And the cinematography was amazing. Beautiful lighting! Like others have said, I liked how the movie showed the descent into being a zombie, and the real horror was in knowing that for Max, it was coming. Wow!
That was GOOD! I love when we see a horror movie setup but it's actually told through a dramatic lens rather than a scary one. It really felt like a Last of Us or The Road type story rather than a Walking Dead one. Flipping fantastic, my friend.
@@mdiggity2000 You're welcome! It's most like a prequel to that film Maggie I mentioned in another comment thread. That one is kinda like a five years later from this, where the zombies and the virus exist but are a contained threat. Heavy recommendation if you haven't seen it, and be prepared for the best dramatic acting of Arnold Schwarzenegger's career
Ordinarily, I don't care for zombie movies, seen enough of them in my time, but this was touching, with realistic emotions of losing someone, under horrible circumstances. Makes you feel sorry for all three.

This made me tear up. The oldest sister really loved her dad, and really didn't want to let him go, that's what made me cry. Also with us dealing with this pandemic and how many people we've lost to it, it just is an eye opener.
So happy for this to be reaching a whole new audience! This film was my first rodeo at production managing and producing, and I couldn't remember the experience more fondly. It started me on a life changing path I am still following. So proud still of our filmmaking family that came together to make this moving and layered film
Aw, thank you so much, Krysta. Hi to Amy. So cool if you both to check out the film! Love that it made you cry haha, bc it’s done that to me sometimes too, just cause the actors are so great. ❤️
That hopelessness of watching someone close to you disintegrating before your eyes... that's true horror. Everyone brought their A-game for this short. Kudos! :)
I am blown away by the chemistry of these actors, especially the two sisters. Oh my god. I would in a heartbeat watch a full length film of these two just surviving on their own.
Seems more realistic than most zombie stories. The slow lumbering zombies of most films. Max saw what was happening to her father and her instinct was to shoot him before he went over. Would be a hard thing to do to shoot your father. Life often hands us tough choices. Sometimes the first instinct is the right one. Emotions often prevents us from making the right choice. Ellen will have to make a choice before long. Well done.
The music and the background sounds made this a spectacular film! I always say that short films are better than feature length and definitely make me feel scared more! Loved it!
You know I barely noticed the title at the beginning but when it popped up at the end it was totally fitting. This hurt me because it felt like Flesh and Blood. That scene where the dad is telling the girl to go on without him, I cried. Pathetic right? I don't know why but it reminded me of when my dad said "I don't want to do dialysis anymore" and they told him he would be dead in maximum three days if he went off dialysis. That is what he decided to do. I told him "I am not happy about your decision but I respect it". And the girls they made me think of my sister and me who in technical terms are half sister. Same mom, different dads...so I kept thinking for a long part of this movie these 2 were half sisters and their bond was strong but the older girl was the one who had the bond with dad because she was the blood relative...so it was easier for the other girl to say leave him because she cared more about the sister....I know that's just my interpretation. The end with the younger one with that rash mark though. And the tone of this was from the jumpstart with the friskies and that part with the singing...made me think again they were half sisters or at least the older one had developed a much stronger bond with dad. I got to get off Alter but I am addicted to this channel even though the shorts they put up make me cry, get angry, get disgusted to the point I want to puke, and cause emotional chaos and devastation in my body...so once again. Fantastically done short.
I love this comment and thank so much for sharing the story about your dad and dialysis. And no, I don't think it's pathetic to cry at all! We're humans and we have emotions and it can be really good and healing to let them out. Sometimes movies and stories can be so helpful with that, because we see our stories in other people and realize that we all share these crazy experiences and aren't alone. It sounds like you went through so much pain with your dad and that you saw some of that story in this film and that's really amazing, because that's what this is all about for me too: the pain of losing a parent. When I was a kid, I "lost" my dad to drugs and alcohol. Even though he was still alive, he wasn't there, you know? Totally different than your story, and yet... there is still the loss there for both of us, and that's captured in this film. As for the sisters, yeah, you're right on, they are each having different experiences. In my mind, the older sister has good memories of her dad, from before everything went to shit, and she is holding onto that, whereas the young sister is really a child of this world, and she has seen her dad do a lot of terrible things to keep them alive, and doesn't have those good memories from before. That said, as soon as you said maybe they are half sisters, I was like, I totally see that! I actually love that interpretation, to be honest.
@@mdiggity2000 Wow! Thank you so much for this amazing and heart provoking response. I am so sorry you lost your dad and actually though are stories are different the line of seeing them go before they go are the same/similar. My dad was so smart but with medications (he was in the hospital from Jan-April of 2015 in and out and then April through November, he was just there at the hospitals...rotated around 3 ones and a respite home...though the respite home said they sent him too early...and they did. Anyway, with all the medications and everything there were times I could tell how his clarity and pinpoint focus wasn't there and then he would zone back into the room and be like "hi!'. There is more to this but when the dad in this short is yelling at the crows I was like rather he is seeing what they aren't or he is seeing what they aren't. Either what he sees is real or not. And as for you saying that they had different experiences and that the younger was a child of the world...that totally makes sense for me. I am actually the younger sister but I related to the older one here. She has more memories with the dad...sing a song for us...and the younger sister was like "I was never part of this" but she cares about the younger sister...keep drinking water. My sister has a dad that basically dropped the ball on my mom when she was 2 and didn't like a lot of guys my mom dated and then had to be raised under my dad. She is 8 years older than me so she assumed my dad didn't nitpick on things with me like he did with her until I would call her or go to her upset. Even so though, my dad and I fought harder I think in some ways because we were so alike so the bond was more. But my sister and me have had a strong bond too. So in some senses my sister was like a child of the world. I think my comment is so long. I might still have more to say but thank you. You did a really fantastic job of conveying all the things in this short that you spoke about in your response back to me. Look forward to seeing more stuff from you.
Whatever was going on in the world is beyond bad. The trees and landscape are desolate and barren. Walking in snow is very taxing on the body under normal conditions. Question: Why when he asked "What was I doing?" She said nothing! She lied, because he was giving up their position with all that yellin'. However, when she asked it, he had a purpose. The younger girl was gonna have to do the inevitable, which is why the older girl made sure she knew how to shoot. Superb acting.

I see a lot of the story here. Dad infected with virus spends his last moments with his two daughters trying to lead them to safety, as well as the sister who wants her younger sister to find the safety before the virus takes over. "Flesh and blood" on this in this case is more about how hard it is to let go if it is your loved one.

I enjoyed the father's acting, and watching the progression of his infection. It was different than other zombie movies. The daughters love that ultimately made a terrifying twist in the end was realistic, although not for some people. And the ending leaves you wanting more!
I have seen this and I honestly loved it! 😍 Wish you guys would give us more! It’s unique and it stuck with me! For once zombies with everything good! Story, acting, you name it! And I’ve seen everything zombie there is! This sticking with me so long speaks for itself! 🔥🔥🔥 😎 Beautiful scenery too! 👍
This. This is the putting myself in the shoes of others while watching a zombie movie. No matter what zombie content I view I always have the same scenario playing through my head while watching zombie content. The scenario of how would it be surviving with family and how.
At first I was confused about what I was watching a movie? a trailer? but they are short shows or I guess episode an each one is different this is amazing something new to watch every day hell ya subscribe!!! This just popped up on my recommendation cuz I love scary movies /shows
This was a good story. The acting was good. The scenery was decent. I enjoyed the characters. It was gross when Max ate the cat food. The actors did such a fantastic job.
@@mdiggity2000 that's wholesome!! She must be named Max in another reality. I enjoyed this short so much. Amazing story, use of sound and cinematography. Incredible acting too! Well-done:)))
Am I the only one who noticed the older sister looks a lot like Haley Joel Osment? She's an excellent actress as well. Maybe she'll have the opportunity to play his little sister or daughter one day 🙂
It would have been nice to see if there really was a fence and if so, did the older sister get the help she needed so she didn't get sick like the dad? I thought it was an awesome story and even shed a tear when the two sisters stopped to hug when they were walking at the end. But then it went to the last scene, and I was like "bummer we don't get to see if the older sister lives or dies" :( disappointing. Hope there's a part 2 to this! 👍
Yea, these videos posted on alter aren’t their videos. Alter doesn’t make or produce any of em. They are just a platform to share shorts and credit the writers, producers and directors. It hurts me a little when I see people praising alter and giving them all the credit when it’s it’s a platform to share more! I love most of what they share though!
Zombie-esque stuff is always left on a cliffhanger. I would have like to see at least one of them actually make it to the fence. Just to know that it was there.
Wow! I want to see more. This is a good example of horror writing- something bad is happening, something very bad & it becomes more ominous. You like the character(s) & hope nothing bad happens to them & then something bad does happen to them- something really bad that frightens you. It might even give you nightmares. 👍👍

At first I was confused about what I was watching a movie? a trailer? but they are short shows or I guess episode an each one is different this is amazing something new to watch every day hell ya subscribe!!! This just popped up on my recommendation cuz I love scary movies /shows
This is arguably horror/drama short film excellence.

This was a good story. The acting was good. The scenery was decent. I enjoyed the characters. It was gross when Max ate the cat food. The actors did such a fantastic job.
Decent lol? Man, we hiked into the high sierras in winter to make this thing 😂 . Glad you liked the acting though!! ;)
Great film, beautifully made!
omg it's Hannah Telle !! She voices Max in Life is Strange
Yeah, and you know what's crazy? I cast her in this before that and she was named Max here too!
@@mdiggity2000 that's wholesome!! She must be named Max in another reality. I enjoyed this short so much. Amazing story, use of sound and cinematography. Incredible acting too! Well-done:)))
Give that girl a round of 👏 she killed it!
Great work, Loved "This must be the place"
Me: watches an apocalyptic movie
Me afterwards: where was my camping stuff again
Sad story, showing tho reality of family in zombie apocalypse :(
Was wondering when a family trip was gonna get scary lol was hoping it wasn't zombies but was.
Am I the only one who noticed the older sister looks a lot like Haley Joel Osment? She's an excellent actress as well. Maybe she'll have the opportunity to play his little sister or daughter one day 🙂
She does!
She was really eating the hell outta that cat food 😮💨🐈
This is great, so tense and captivating.
❤️❤️
Who are these actors? This is amazing! This was not acting, this was the real shit!
Dang, I couldn’t agree with you more. They brought it!
Since the older sister got bite by the dad is she going to eventually become a zombie and is that part of why she gave the younger sister the gun?
Yeah, exactly.
I liked that soundtrack. It's like soundtrack of "28 Days Later". Subject is classic but pretty cool.
Terrific job by everyone.
This is a good film. The story builds slowly without actually being boring. Acting wise, there is good chemistry between the father and daughters 👍🏾
Thank you!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@mdiggity2000 You're welcome 😀
Automatic thumbs up just for the bite guards lol
Now that is some great acting!
Yea, the actors KILLED it!!
So many emotions 😢I didn’t want it to end
It’s great to watch it again on Alter! Looking forward to your feature-length one!
Thank you!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
7:12 her so voice is so pretty and soothing :)
Hannah Telle! She is so talented.
@@mdiggity2000 she is!! and so are u for creating such an intriguing film!
@@vicwaju ☺️☺️
I just found ALTER today; I’m enjoying the short stories ALOT ! Glad I found you 🎶🎵🎶
It would have been nice to see if there really was a fence and if so, did the older sister get the help she needed so she didn't get sick like the dad? I thought it was an awesome story and even shed a tear when the two sisters stopped to hug when they were walking at the end. But then it went to the last scene, and I was like "bummer we don't get to see if the older sister lives or dies" :( disappointing. Hope there's a part 2 to this! 👍
Fun fact: the actress for max in this short also voiced max caulfield in life is strange! 2 different max's😂
I’m only 4 mins in but I’ve seen this before, or a version of it. I hope it’s an expanded version. Nope seems like it’s the same. Still excellent tho
People watch stuff like the walking dead but that's so Hollywood. That was emotional and made you feel for the characters superb job
Thank you! Definitely wanted to beat Walking Dead :)
It's amazing so new and fresh and interesting short, i hope they make the full length movie some day
Zombie-esque stuff is always left on a cliffhanger.
Here even zombie movies are fine!
Liked the 'In the House, In a Heartbeat' variation at the end.
Any part 2? I hope its half hour length, i wanna know how its start and its end, should be made a full movie
This is why in a zombie apocalypse you don’t hesitate no matter who the person is
loved this draws you in . acting all around he cast was great ,heart breaking so very well done
They should totally make this into a movie or something.
One of your best, Alter. Shame the views are not your usual.
Did she just eat... Cat food??
Probably the best short I’ve seen. Wow!
excellent story line - very well done! the one female actress looks like she could be related to a young Haley Joel Osment
Thank you! Never thought about the HJO look but you’re totally right about that.
I kept thinking it was his sister. She's an actor as well.
Stellar acting! Wow!
Correct me if I'm wrong but was this video on Alter previously last year? I'm sure I saw it before or else on another RUclips site last year? Great video BTW.
Such a cool film. Thank you for being so accessible and telling me all about your adventures with the non-gun. Can't wait to see more of your stuff. See you next time!
aw, thanks so much, my pleasure!
Actually, I don't watch alter for horror stories but for fun. Look how that girl was eating Cat food at starting. Each video consists of such mind refreshers. So yeah
Would love to see more of this idea! Great short💜
Thank you! I've written the full feature version and hoping to make it. Fingers crossed that we can pull it together !!
I loved it. I felt really bad for the children though since their dad is infected.
Amazing, thank you! Yeah, it's sad for sure...
