Yes, but Star Trek beat them to it with Mirror, Mirror almost three years earlier. But to be fair, this was only the second time Parallel universes/times was done outside sci-fi novels and magazines. Of course, it has been done countless times since, with both DS and Star Trek going back quite a few times, even with Discovery and Strange New Worlds, the TV show, Sliders, and even Superfriends where Superman traded places with his evil Gene Simmons-looking counterpart, with evil Robin and Aquaman sporting mustaches. 1970 parallel time was a mixed blessing for Parker fans. Because half of the cast was busy making the first movie, which Parker isn't in, she got a much expanded storyline on the TV series. But unlike the Angelique we knew in normal time, this Angelique doesn't have a history of loving Barnabas as well as having the familiar power struggles with him too. She also doesn't seem to have quite the same powers, needing from time to time, to steal the body heat of others to remain alive.
The show is back on the air on the Decades Channel, 9PM Pacific time. They are showing the really old black and white episodes. Makes me want to go out and buy a Theremin, LOL.
It was the perfect TV show for the late 1960's. It was the visual analogue to Donovan's song "Season of the Witch" or the Beatles song "I am the Walrus.:"Also, I am a bit of an anglophile (I get hard over English accents), and the stately, graceful elegant speech of the characters really turns me on.
I absolutely adored Dark Shadows when I was a kid! I loved, loved, loved it! Until yesterday, I had all my original Dark Shadows comic books in mint condition. In the late 60's or early 70's, my family and I were in Newport, Tn. on vacation and the ads came on tv for the HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS MOVIE, and I told my mother( who knew I was completely obsessed with this show) that we had to drive to Morristown or Knoxville, or wherever the movie was being played and go see it. She said, "Just wait till we get home, we can see it there". Guess what? It never came to Cols, Oh., at least, NOT FOR SOME TIME, like 5-7 years later!!! I saw Night of Dark Shadows way before I ever saw the first one, (you know, if you're going to make 1,2, and/or 3 movies from the same show, the least you can do, is bring them out in ORDER!!! I saw 'em later and they were fantastic, especially when Barnabas AGES so fast and turns into the old, old, old man/vampire and really freaks out, that was great, just great. People/kids were screaming in the movie theatre, it was really scary, similar reactions like watching Jaws for the first time, or Phantasm or Burned Offerings, two really scary movies. Does anyone know the name of the music playing at beginning and ending of Dark Shadows and where can I get a copy? I love Angelique the beautiful witch sooo much, I named my beautiful daughter after her; but she's a beautiful genius and I changed the spelling so she would be totally "unique", Aynnjelique ta dah, but guess what? Me mother wasn't fooled, SHE KNEW where I'd gotten that name; funny, I always thought she was asleep when my favorite show was on, you know what they say about mothers, uh huh, it's true! Love you Aynnjelique 4ever and ever, P. S. Their skits about ghosts, time travel and other fantastic occult subjects were just great! How would little kids "hear" about such stuff other than a tv show like that. Had it been on in prime time, no one would have been allowed to watch it! Great show! Lyjaia
Wow, thats fantastic!!! I think she's one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen, and I always wondered, especially after Dark Shadows went off the air, why she wasn't snatched up and put on prime time t.v. or even a soap opera would have been o.k. since she was a grade-A actress; but I really don't think I've seen her in too much until, just in the last 5-10 yrs. playing bit parts here and there. I wonder what it was like to kiss Jonathan Frid, especially in the 1840's episodes, which are my favorites, ANGELIQUE KNOWS!!!, but evidently, neither she nor maggie are "kiss'n or a-tellin'", cause neither one has come up with a "tell all" book yet, at least I haven't heard yet, if you come across something like that, I'd appreciate a holler, okey-dokey? Back to Lara Parker, did she ever get married and have kids or was she, like Jonathan Frid, married to her profession? Do tell me more, please! Lyjaia
I was terrified by the first black-and-white episodes I saw of "Dark Shadows"(I was in first or second grade) but was fascinated too. Lara Parker is still to me one of the most beautiful of women. Her portrait was probably the first work of art that got my attention. (Later Mort Kunstler's painting used for the posters for "The Poseidon Adventure" had me almost hypnotized outside the theater when I was 11 years old.) Seeing the portrait now it's not as good as I thought but I would love to have a print of it. I saw Lara Parker in a couple of scenes with Jack Lemmon in "Save the Tiger" for which he won the Oscar. When she appeared in an episode of "Murder She Wrote" Ms. Parker was in terrific shape, at that age she could still wear what I think was a bias cut evening gown. I don't know much about Lara Parker but I know she did radio work as a child and worked on stage when she lived in Minnesota, I believe, has been married and is a mother and that she has a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing. Lara Parker wrote the introduction to one of the 1990's Dark Shadows novels. I thought she would say something like it was fun to dress up in 1800's clothes and work with Jonathan Frid but Ms. Parker really wrote a fascinating essay about "Dark Shadows" and the inner needs of our culture and I was so impressed I copied part of it verbatim: "One reason is that the Romantic style of the Bronte sisters, Mary Shelley, Johann Goethe, Victor Hugo, Edgar Allan Poe, Henry James, and so many others still holds such strong appeal in today's world--a world virtually bereft of spiritual meaning. So often news stories or the plots of films leave us with a feeling of hopelessness. Our buildings are stark, our music reeks of cynicism, films are populated with computerized creatures, and contempt for any chivalric ideal reigns supreme. The protagonist is often a punk, loser, or an automaton; and passion has been replaced by "cool", the coveted attribute of the modern personality. Mindless distraction and a kind of smug and sneering send-up of all traditional values are the modern fare. We continually long for something we have lost"--Lara Parker, 1999. What a thinker and what a writer!
Sounds like a true 1st decan Scorpio to me! Her birthday is the 27th of October, mine is the 26th of October. Oh, what I wouldn't have given to have known that little tidbit when I was a child!!! Love you forever Lara/Angelique!
Angelique was beautiful. Dan Curtis once said "I cast right on the money". It's true. Laura Parker is a.....less than sincere person, shall we say. I had a bad experience with her at a horror convention and find it amusing that she has no idea that Curtis saw through her instantly and cast her as herself - to a large degree. This is why she was perfect for the role. Dan Curtis was a genius.
@@donnaevans7 At one of those Dark Shadow Conventions, she was extremely rude to my 12 year old son when he was standing in line to get her autograph.. He wanted me to see something and pointed to it in a glass case with a rolled up poster he just bought - didn't touch the glass. One of her "helpers" bit his head off - I mean super nasty. She gave my son dirty looks and when she asked him his name in a hateful tone, he told her and she screwed up her face, stared at him hatefully, and said "well....(his name) and signed the piece of garbage he had to buy to get her autograph. He did absolutely nothing wrong and was abused by that horrible woman and her "helpers". He threw her autograph away. Curtis cast a woman who didn't have to act - he obviously saw through her instantly. She is horrible.
@@donnaevans7 I wouldn't lie on the woman. I went to that convention with extremely good will toward all of them. She worked hard to ruin it. I saw her being "nice" to others but it was very fake, like bad acting. I choose to think of it as Dan Curtis hiring someone to play themselves so he didn't have to depend on someone's acting skills rather than focus on how hurt and disappointed my son and I were.
@@paulascott5701 I just find it odd that others who have meet her have said how nice and pleasant she was. And the comment that she worked hard to ruin it for you...like it was a personal thing...is a little much.
this was the best spooky scariest soap opera it ever was my grandmother used to watch this we had a black-and-white philco TV in the seventies I was a little kid I'll never forget it Dark Shadows would scare the utmost hell out of you but I love Grayson Hall to as I got older I love the characters on the show I don't know what the hell Barnabas did to Angelique in st. Martinique where they met y'all remember the people in st. Martinique believe in a lot of things like a people in New Orleans I will leave nameless but Angelique had his ass if you cross that witch your ass was fried grits it was Judah Zachary that turned her into a witch but Dark Shadows was and is the ultimate if you really got into the show in a room in the house where the TV and the lights were kind of low and your mind was kind of freely that day and it was a spooky ass episode and somebody walked up or pass by you or tapped you on your shoulder at a particular good spooky part I can bet you would pass a blue brick lmao Laura Parker/ Angelique a dangerously beautiful woman. I love the original Dark Shadows series forever.
Well, the old saying, "boys will be boys" would be fitting in that case. The case of a young Barnabas Collins visiting St. Martinique. He simply saw a beautiful young blonde, originally a handmaid to a woman he would one day hope to betroth, and had a one-night stand with her. Only she wasn't having just one night. She wanted many more afterward until he became hers alone (personally, I don't know how he could resist her even after that much time past. *She* would have been my chosen bride, tbh. Not Josette Du Pres!!!) That age old "pump and dump" mentality newly arrived British males had for women of lesser "status." Believe it or not, that's how all of the Collins' family troubles (the supernatural stuff!!) began.

I'm trying to wrap my head around the whole "Parallel Time" concept. I can only grasp, correct if I'm wrong, that it means the same people, not their "reincarnations" or descendants, but the exact same individuals had they existed in a different time period.(??)
this puts regular daytime soap operas to shame. Think about it. They put this on after General Hospital was on in the afternoon for little kids to watch. What were they thinking? They were thinking "chi ching!" Advertising money. It had mature themes for little kids, and not to mention vampires, women-sex innuendo, werewolves, witchcraft, revenge etc. This wouldn't fly today.
I love this show make me feel young, I was a baby the first time it was on TV. If somebody can answer me? This episode happen when the werewolf was in Colleen port?
The fun is in the search and their discovery is your reward. They are out there so just continue to search. There are quite a few of them out there to be found. There is the newest novels from Parker that she has been writing plus the original thirty-two from Ross when the Soap was still on the air that are becoming scarcer with each new decade. Then, if you really are searching for a challenge, there is all of the fan fiction novellas and novels that have been coming out since the 1970's by people like Resch and Paige!
Honestly as much as I love DS, I just wanted some force to finish for good Angelique and Nicholas. Beautiful actress though, but I couldn’t stand the character. 200 years stalking Barnabas...c’mon lady,: He’s Just Not That Into You ! 😂 Very annoying.
You need more than a glass of wine to watch this with back in the day it would scare the hell out of you Angelique was no damn joke but whatever went down between her and Barnabas in Martinique they slept together in Martinique because he was over there being a hot daddy and he didn't know what he had his hands on the characters was so handsome and gorgeous and beautiful women Trask was cute coming in that Cemetery this is the best he's looked on the show to,me
This Angelique was gorgeous but the one in the '91 series was ok. Josette in both series was lovely but much more in the '91 series. I thought Joanna Going was very talented playing Josette with immense credibility as well as her Vicky Winters character.
I read Lara Parker's introduction to one of the "Dark Shadows" novels. (I don't think she was the author of that particular book.) Instead of light material such as enjoying working with her co-stars or having fun playing Angelique, Ms. Parker wrote what could be called an essay on how "Dark Shadows" is part of the Gothic tradition of Poe and the Brontes and Henry James. She also wrote about why "Dark Shadows" affects people so deeply in a time when there are no real heroes in stories, she said at that time (around 1998) that the present-day hero was "...a punk, an automaton" and that "Dark Shadows" speaks to people "...in a world virtually bereft of spiritual meaning". It may also have been in that introduction that Lara Parker referenced Jungian psychology. I've read that Lara Parker has a Master's Degree in Creative Writing. Ms. Parker is clearly an intelligent, educated woman and a skillful, articulate writer as well as being an accomplished actress.
@@andrewbrendan1579 I think the author of the book you read may have been Katherine Leigh Scott. She wrote a book at about the same time Lara Parker wrote her first Dark Shadows book. Katherine Leigh Scott played Maggie Evans in the original series.
It's really very simple. Think "Star Trek"'s episode "Mirror, Mirror", or the similar episode of "Lost In Space" (third season). It's a now-time honored "plot device' that Tv and movie directors and writers have been using for decades. If you're still confused, then remember James Stewart in "It's a wonderful Life". I think the gimmick was called "The Kid TricK", where one could bring characters back to life or change their circumastances. In Angelques case, she played THREE CHARACTERS!!!

When decades stopped showing DS, we switched to Amazon Prime to finish the series. The only thing that sucks is missing the feel of watching it on late night TV
To continue...Dan Curtis, Phillip LupAtkin, and Art Wallace wanted to elongate the series. Since they had actors play their characters own varying ancestors repeatedly, and every horror device reference was used except "The Mummy", going through an alternate universe seemed logical. The answer is what would have happened to Barnasbas if he never become a Vampire. Answer is his outcast and destitute son, Bramwell (born of the widowed Josette) was the result . Then cut to the 1970s, and viola!!!
What would it be like to actually be Angelique? If she were real and doing the things she does on TV, I would think that she would be a lonely, unsatisfied and unhappy woman frightened by the future in which her choices and behavior would eventually catch up with her yet not knowing how to change things in the present.
She doesn't look like the girl who hangs around with miss O'Donald. Well, both this and the.1991 actress were pretty. I'd prefer the 1991 actress. This is the first scene of the originally black and white version that I was able to watch. Having watched the new one and then watch the older one is difficult.

It was the visual analogue to Donovan's song "Season of the Witch" or the Beatles song "I am the Walrus.:"Also, I am a bit of an anglophile (I get hard over English accents), and the stately, graceful elegant speech of the characters really turns me on.
How come Trask hears her 'praying' at the end but he didn't hear Alexis screaming?
It was in the script.
Soap acting at its finest. Such an innovative show. How'd they pull this off as a daily serial for so many years? RIP beautiful Laura Parker.
Thank you for this one. Great memories!
Loved Angelique/Cassandra!
I was 10 or 11 when this first aired. Very scary!
Having sisters can be good sometimes, but on the other hand it can be really bad.
For poor Alexis, it was really bad
@@googleuser7454 I couldn't agree more. Angelique was so bad.
Angelique scared the Dickens out of me.....always.
Ironically, in PT-perhaps Angelique's greatest act of evil.
THIS WAS A GREAT ONE..
Not only perfectly preserved, but (1:55) it is still breathing.
the pledge of the living revealed in a tv program, wonderful
HOW CAN A CHAIN HOLD A VAMPIRE??...THEY AFTER ALL HAVE SUPERNATURAL STRENGTH!!

So what happened?
@@paulascott5701 Funny...I have never heard anything about her being mean or rude to fans.
I just want you tube to put the show back on here
this was the best spooky scariest soap opera it ever was my grandmother used to watch this we had a black-and-white philco TV in the seventies I was a little kid I'll never forget it Dark Shadows would scare the utmost hell out of you but I love Grayson Hall to as I got older I love the characters on the show I don't know what the hell Barnabas did to Angelique in st.
@@woodie62 exactly but what he was being yeah he was being boy🤣🤣😉😉😉🍾🥂🥂🙉🥳❤🤩🍿😷👍🍸👏 but she lit his nuts up for real is she made damn sure he never forgot her name Angie Leek🤣🤣🤣🙋♂️🤷♂️ Barnabas you got to paint you can spare Triple O Negative or XXX negative👏🤣 it's the blood of the dance. @@woodie62 well again I guess he wish he would have stuck it in a beehive instead of Angelique because she was no pump-and-dump baby he was going to get betrothed himself you see they still have it wrong they've done it for centuries men and that thing down there and women and that thing down there there's so much more besides those two utensils to make a baby but man and woman can't get past that horniness you see if he would have stuck it in a beehive he would have been all right like the old saying goes as you say it would have been all right after the swelling went down "okay" but another thing happened you know out there on the hill at Collinwood overlooking the Cliffs at widows Hill so many ships had been wrecked on the Rocks down through the years you see that led you to believe there were other spirits to Of Ship wrecked whole Crews that went down with the ship so Collingwood already was a spook spot so to say no pun intended🤣🤷♂️🥳🥂 and back then there was so prim and proper and ashamed of the actions that happened when the wind blew in a certain direction🤣🤣🤣👌👌🍾 but they got that mentality of I can have I am rich and this is the way things are right now I am the master of my destiny because of my dollar sign wrong answer it was something much more powerful you see when Angelique put whatever yeah you know what she put on him and he was halfway slow and gullible to and innocent Rich protected it was on and popping and she said I'd be dam if Josette get any of this Collins popsicle because it all started with the Warlock his old horny old ass Judah Zachary he's the one that got with Angelique when she was probably about I won't say 12 to 19 he was already dead but living in a live body something whatever however the situation goes and he messed angelique's whole world she was just a young girl to before she ever met Barnabas she was already set and ready to go like a 747 or Learjet and nobody was going to stop that hookah little small simple stuff that could have been avoided and innocent people got in the way like Chris and Tom Jennings they didn't have to be turned into what they were they came from a little poor family and was just as handsome as they could be neither did Carolyn have to be what she was all of this on the account of Angelique and that trip to st. Martinique and I've heard I don't know way back in the day strange things going on in the tropics I will leave them alone playing with god with evil is bad in the long run but it's so hard for anybody to be good🤣👌🍾🤷♂️ Barnabas just got caught up he probably had to pay Angelique or they had those women of the night you know cuz look at all the ones he bit in Collingwood down by the docks they always say down by the docks where the prostitutes are cause he bit Snooki Forbes that other chick too and I think one of the two were prostitutes Angelique played her own sister and killed her in the mausoleum in a coffin because she was Bewitched her body would not deteriorate and I think back then they didn't do too much embalming and didn't somewhere they think if you didn't embalm the body at night they would rise again nice talking to you about Dark Shadows I love it chat later👌👌👌👌👌🍸👌🍺

Be waitin'!! The GOAT - Best daytime soap ever!!🍸🍸
I'm trying to wrap my head around the whole "Parallel Time" concept. I can only grasp, correct if I'm wrong, that it means the same people, not their "reincarnations" or descendants, but the exact same individuals had they existed in a different time period.(??)
Happening at the same time in a parallel reality
Kinda like that Star Trek episode Mirror Mirror. Edit: Hmm that was aired October 6, 1967.
this puts regular daytime soap operas to shame.
R.i.p. Lara Parker. I still can't believe she's gone 😢💔
outstanding. old video i must go back.to that time.
Lisa Moya...
Watched every show, loved them all.
So if Willie had opened the coffin would she have switched bodies???
I really like Jerry Lacey as Trask instead of Reverend Trask.
I love this show make me feel young, I was a baby the first time it was on TV. If somebody can answer me? This episode happen when the werewolf was in Colleen port?
Angelique has cats eyes.
several novels were published based on the series. i've been perusing second hand bookstores, but no luck yet...
Try libraries. Sometimes they have them in their storage area.

The only thing I remember about PT is Alexis and Angélique's aunt saying "Murdah" instead of "murder"
This Angelique was gorgeous but the one in the '91 series was ok. Josette in both series was lovely but much more in the '91 series. I thought Joanna Going was very talented playing Josette with immense credibility as well as her Vicky Winters character.
But that's her charm!
I'm curious. How did they have Lara Parker play both sisters at the same time?

Lara was great as AngeliqueCollins And Alexis !
I always hated Angelique but like Lara Parker ! Angelique is so evil and no good evil Witch !
You should read her Dark Shadows books.

To bad Lara Parker didn't make an appearance on The Edge Of Night.
terrific video of angelique
Not that I’ve been to a lot of funerals, I have never seen anyone wearing opera gloves in the casket.
@MrFalconford me too. and I see it as justice lol. I don't know, maybe I'm only one who sees it that way haha.
Angelique was quite a good character played by Lara Parker a gorgeous hot women good actress too.
Well, mainly cause it was screwed up by humor which was death to the reputation of a legendary series.
anyone know how I can watch episode 725 and up?
You can buy the full series box set. Comes in a coffin.
If you got computer cell or tablet down load that app tubi (free Movies & TV) they got the complete serie
Angelique's laugh would bother me.

I think it would have been cool to live back then.
We cannot wait for the decades tv station to air more new episodes after the witch trial of Victoria winter's!
When decades stopped showing DS, we switched to Amazon Prime to finish the series. The only thing that sucks is missing the feel of watching it on late night TV
Love Her🌞🌞💕💕💖🌸🌸💐💐🌺🌺⭐⭐⭐⭐
To continue...Dan Curtis, Phillip LupAtkin, and Art Wallace wanted to elongate the series.
David Selby was the narrator?
Jerry Lacy (Trask)
What would it be like to actually be Angelique? If she were real and doing the things she does on TV, I would think that she would be a lonely, unsatisfied and unhappy woman frightened by the future in which her choices and behavior would eventually catch up with her yet not knowing how to change things in the present.
Yes, but as different characters as well.
Love this storyline! Bruno and Ode to Angelique. I have original Sheet Music.
Yeah, I noticed that too! Weird!
She doesn't look like the girl who hangs around with miss O'Donald. Well, both this and the.1991 actress were pretty. I'd prefer the 1991 actress. This is the first scene of the originally black and white version that I was able to watch. Having watched the new one and then watch the older one is difficult.
Very scary. I remember getting nightmares. Why do these people visit these places.
