Lara Parker was an entrancing woman. Whoever discovered her for the "Dark Shadows" series gave viewers a special gift! Katherine Leigh Scott and Nancy Barrett were gorgeous actresses as well! Even if the storylines became a bit 'hokey' as this series progressed, the stunning, visual charms of these three talented beauties never ceased to grace the eyes!
I sa this episode in 1970, and twenty five years later at DS convention with the original commercials, right after the camera fades out of Angelique's terrified face was a Sara Lee Cakes ad, "Everybody doesn't like something, but nobody doesn't like Sara Lee" we all cracked up at that!
The actor playing Judah Zachary was effectively chilling; he had an amazing voice. He scared me as a teen. When he whips off that hooded mask now, however, I have to stifle a laugh because something in his expression and facial features reminds me of J.R. Ewing.
That was Amadeus Collins presiding over the Tribunal in 1692. I know Joshua was Louis Edmonds' favourite Collins character in the series, but he really must have had fun being able to let loose and just gorge himself on the scenery in this flashback episode.
I agree, Angelique was very beautiful. As a child, in my mind, all witches were ugly with crooked noses and warts. I was so confused when I saw Angelique. By the way, why do you compare her to a Hohenzollern princess? Were they famed for their beauty?
The voodoo mother in Martinique was her original backstory when her character was introduced in the 1795 storyline, but as the series went on, her character expanded. Miranda from 1692 New England was definitely Angelique's first incarnation, because she was a mortal when she joined Judah's coven. The original backstory was never formally "retconned" in the series, but it could have been very easily, by explaining away the mother as a fellow witch simply posing as her mother.
Two ways of interpreting the retcon: 1) All the time travel in Dark Shadows ended up altering certain lives or events, such as the life of Angelique, or... 2) Miranda Duval migrated to Martinique following the execution of Judah Zachary. For whatever reason, she decided to fully undertake the practise of the dark powers herself and the voodoo priestess or witch who tutored Miranda became her spiritual mother (or perhaps even adopted her outright), rechristening her as Angelique Bouchard. So in that sense, Angelique's original backstory tracks, only it turns out it was not her whole story. Her teacher wasn't just posing as Angelique's mother, she had become her mother in a significant way and therefore the title was most appropriate.
I was 14 and in love with Lara Parker! That is until Star Trek came on at 4 and I fell in love with Susan Oliver or Sherry Jackson or Lois Jewel or Yvonne Craig... ad infinitum, lol.
Error in this scene: Just before Angelique sits down on the couch after being confronted by Mr Styles about being Miranda, Julia Hoffman was in the room & overhead the conversation. When they come back from break Julia is nowhere to be seen & she is out of the room & its as if it never happened.
Keep on playing your dark shadows background classical mysterious soundtrack dramatic music until the end of this series, Robert Cobert. Judas Zachary will be condemn at the Tribunal Courthouse.
There was an offscreen trick here: when Judah Zachery speaks with the hood on, it's actor Keene Curtis speaking, but when Judah removes the mask, it's actor Michael McGuire, who played "The Head of Judah Zachery". Notice that after he takes off the hood, the camera cuts to Miranda, listening in terror to Judah's curse against the Collinses. That's Curtis' voice again. NEVER do you see Judah speaking without the hood on!
Both Keene Curtis, the voice of Judah Zachary, who is actually the one under the hood whenever Judah spoke, and Michael McGuire, the head of Judah Zachary, the one who takes the hood off, both played pivotal roles on "Cheers". McGuire played Diane's fiance who brought and left (jilted)her at Cheers and returned five years later to take her away as her book agent. Curtis played the new owner of the restaurant above Cheers during the show's final three seasons and developed a romance with Carla.
Now up to that pass time, it's then the best court house battle ever. It's War world in the courthouse in the year 1692. The Robert Colbert orchestra soundtrack suspenseful mysterious symphonic background composition soundtrack will tell you about that.
Louis Edmonds is originally from Louisiana . You would think he was from England or New England judging by his Dark Shadows roles . What a remarkable Actor . Yes there is casting but I have the feeling that he could have played in the Henry VIii productions and then go slide right into a Sergio Leone epic. Allegedly he threw some good parties on his rec time
Hi,there. In answer to your question, If this is the exact time line of Angelique\Miranda's original timeline, then the answer is simple. She being a disciple of Juda Zachary makes her a witch and Judah a SORCERER!!! As I understand this occult business, a coven is comprised of twelve (mostly) females and the head-which-contrary to most "camp" movies-is always a male; the 'source' conduit of demonic power that the black supplicants draw. Seems that after Judah's decapitation, "Miranda" (Cont'd)
(Cont'd).After she thought she was free of Judah Zachary, "Miranda" sought to go into "business" on her own and learned the "black" arts by another avenue. Voodoo, and "conjuring", not realizing that she ws still tethered to Zachary and Satan. That's why the actress Ms. Parker emoted suprise, astonishment, disbelief, and terror that Zachary could reach beyond the grave and get at ther. One thing that puts a crimp in the narrative: Knowing that the Collins were cursed, why did she get involved?
I think this added oddity to the Angelique story! If Miranda was the original witch, how did she end up in Martinique as Angelique? Remember when Nicolas punished Cassandra. He referred to Cassandra as having been born in 1700's and seemed to have no knowledge of Miranda! The dots are difficult to connect.
Miranda was the original and only witch, I believe she moved away to Martinique out of fear of Judah Zachary's promise to get his revenge after he was hanged due to her testimony, and then she probably changed her name and gained employment being a servant to Josette. There were many dots that didn't connect in DS, like in earlier episodes Josette's tomb had the inscription of her death in the 1820's when we know she jumped the cliff in 1796. And Laura Collins coming back to life every 100 years but the story showed her return in the 1897 storyline and then 1966 which is not 100 years. Probably change of writers...who knows!
Remember, this show was never to be scene again. But, someone had the bright idea of preserving as many master videotaped episodes as possible, due to the networks practice of wiping back then, adding in black and white kinescopes of lost videotaped episodes, except one when ABC stopped recording screens on black and white film, save for news programs, and syndicating the series and ultimately placing them on video cassettes, DVDs and streaming services. So you see all the hard work by the actors and crew members, mistakes, retcons and missed retcons in their full glory. Even the lost episode (#1219) was audio recorded by a DS fan and was still intact when MPI Home Video reconstructed the episode.
Now that's what I've called a World War verbal outrage attack of a loudest battle of a conflict attack the Tribunal Courthouse. And that is between Judas Zachariah, Miranda Duvall and the Tribunal Courthouse.
Now as that angered violent outburst of a Tribunal Courthouse of a War world 2 court battle, is in progress and is ongoing, that Robert Colbert orchestra soundtrack suspenseful background of an action composition is now also in progress as also in ongoing.
The hair and makeup on this show was beautiful...most of the time lol. Big but not over the top. Especially for the Female lead roles...they were done up nice but not too much to take away from natural beauty.
you've better get ready, Robert Cobert, with your background soundtrack music symphonic orchestra compositions. the tribunal court battle is going to get started between good and evil.
Well, Robert Colbert and his classical background soundtrack classical musical masterpiece of symphonic compositions, better get his background soundtrack classical musical ready. There is going to be a War World 3 at the Tribunal Courthouse building against Judah Zachary.
Well, let's just pray and hope that the background soundtrack orchestration conductor, Robert Colbert orchestra will start building up this disputing, conflicting commotional waring action of uproaring drama. Because as of the background soundtrack orchestration of the drama goes on, it shows that there will be a World War attack at the Tribunal Courthouse of it's attack against Judas Zachariah, and Judas is going to loose the conflicting of it's attack commotional battle, no matter how loud he's going to explode his anger.
Pretty cool stuff from the 60s. Us grade school kids loved it💀☠️. Weird no cussing, sex, or gore. Really scary though🚀💀. Nothing today comes near it. Lara Parker had beautiful eyes. No one could hold a candle to rebel wild child Nancy Barrett. She was young, but never got carded at the Blue 🐳 Whale.
Angelique's growth as a witch took place over nearly a century. Her first initiation was with the Zachary coven, then she was further initiated into the dark arts in Martinique from the voodoo priestess or witch who tutored her. At some point, she would have sold her soul to Belial to gain further power and immortality. Nicholas Blair was evidently a senior warlock and therefore more powerful, thus enjoying a position of authority from Belial over Angelique --- until his Adam/Eve project failed so disastrously and he fell out of Belial's favour.
Here it goes again, you ol' Robert Cobert, that tribunal court battle is hell about to start. And all hell is about to break loose. So you'll better get your background orchestration soundtrack composition started.
Two ways of interpreting the retcon: 1) All the time travel in Dark Shadows ended up altering certain lives or events, such as the life of Angelique, or... 2) Miranda Duval migrated to Martinique following the execution of Judah Zachary. well, Mr Dark Shadows conductor, Robert Colbert, you've better fucking get ready to get your conducting battling music ready!!!!!!! the avenging wrath warring battling between good and evil is about to get ready in that tribunal courthouse.
That Robert Colbert conducting orchestration soundtrack suspenseful background symphonic music is about to start. War world 2 is about to begin at the Tribunal Courthouse between the judge and Judas Zachary.
and that is why? is because the avengeful wrathfully courtroom warring battling between good and evil in the tribunal courthouse is about to get ready.
Judah Zachary exerted his power through his eyes, and apparently could paralyse or control the members of his coven by staring and working his will upon his victims. The hood was to prevent Judah from stopping Miranda's testimony at the Tribunal.
well, Robert Cobert, you'll just better get your rightful proper background soundtracks orchestration compositions concert ready. the warring battle in the tribunal court will be ready.
Mr. Robert Cobert, you better get your shit together of your background symphonic soundtrack orchestration of this DS episode ready. The War World 3 of the Tribunal Courtroom raging battle of the warlock Judas Zachary is ready to start, as all hell is about to break loose.
Most beautiful witch, ever. Love Angelique
This show was SO mesmerizing. So many twists and turns. Current time, parallel time, flashbacks, etc..... JUST WONDERFUL!!!!
I don’t remember this scene!!! I did not know Angelique was Miranda before she became a witch. Now I know how she became a witch
I love that they had Lara Parker in full eyeliner and lashes playing a character in 1692, LOL.
With those eyes, why wouldn't you. . . .
What gorgeous beautiful eyes Miranda has.
Lara Parker was an entrancing woman. Whoever discovered her for the "Dark Shadows" series gave viewers a special gift!

She walked in after less than 2 weeks in NYC and got the part.
I was blessed enough to meet all three of them no brag just fact.
They always gave Louis Edmond the most difficult roles. That is a compliment to his acting talents.
and then came Langley Wallingford
I wish they would show every episode in order from 1st to last on RUclips
The series on CD is $500 on Amazon.
free on amazon prime 😉

Oddly, Rodger’s severe hyper-tension never resulted in a stroke - except in those who were forced to endure his ranting and raving.
That was Amadeus Collins presiding over the Tribunal in 1692. I know Joshua was Louis Edmonds' favourite Collins character in the series, but he really must have had fun being able to let loose and just gorge himself on the scenery in this flashback episode.
She was so beautiful beautiful big blue eyes
I loved what an article I read about the show said: "Most families on soap operas seemed to be living under a curse--the Collinses actually were!"
Yes, this was the Curse of curses for the Collins family.
She's sitting in Collinwood in 1840. Only the memory is set in 1692.
The most beautiful witch in T.V. history. What eyes. She was more beautiful as a vampire. A Hohenzollern princess. Though she was a southern gal.
I agree, Angelique was very beautiful. As a child, in my mind, all witches were ugly with crooked noses and warts. I was so confused when I saw Angelique. By the way, why do you compare her to a Hohenzollern princess? Were they famed for their beauty?
