The FASTEST FWD Ford in the U.K. and it's a VAN?!

- This was certainly one of the more unique builds we saw on our U.K. Santa Pod Raceway trip. A Ford Escort Work Van, boosted to the gils, running 8's and looking good while doing it. Not bad for a car built to haul around tools and equipment, and definitely not what comes to mind when you picture the fastest FWD Ford in Europe.

hey Kyle and any Americans who may be interested the engine and trans setup is not too dissimilar to what you guys had in the old usdm Ford escort zx3 just an FYI good job to Terry and the whole team running these sorts of numbers was an impossible thought back in the day when these motors came out I hope you guys can improve on your times
Aforementioned American here. We had the 2.0 Zetec in the pre-facelift mk1 focus, and the earlier but hardly known about Escort ZX2.

I think the US guys don't understand the kg to pounds conversion. In what way is that car heavy at 1,129kg??
Because 1kg is 2.2lbs so 1129kg is 2483lbs.
For a front wheel drive full on race car, that is heavy
It is heavy for FWD class usually under a ton with everything from the rear ripped out .
Thats insane that its a ztec focus engine. I can get one with a guarentee for 400 bucks near my house. I was waiting to buy a K series for a road legal buggy I bought. Much like razzle dazzle but street legal. Now I gotta see if there's after market rotating assemblies and what a stock Z tec can handle. Lots to figure out, but this was cool.

Escort vans were everywhere in the 90s, they were common as muck back then and battered from daily commercial use.
To see one now with an RS bonnet and big arches, doing 8s on a zetec is mind blowing and absolutely bloody fantastic.

Not in the Escort vans, mainly post/parcel/parts delivery or tradesmen plus tools, the Transits take 8ft x 4ft sheets, pallets of blocks etc

definitely the added wheelbase of the Transit is an enabler when running SFWD, and while aero can be tricky and often counter-intuitive it's possible even the shape of that Van body actually WORKS to it's advantage at the top end...? 😎 get that gearbox fixed (maybe even upgraded) and get back out there cause that things a RIOT👏 dipping into the 8's three times shows the basic platform is sound.
