Honestly, it’s a set that could really use a rework anyways. I’m hoping they release a better version later down the line, along with maybe some other scenes from Temple of Doom (like the Shanghai chase, the bridge, Pankot Palace, or even Lao Che’s plane.)
Other than build issues, I think either Lucasfilm didn’t approve of the build (it looks a little goofy) or they only wanted to release 3 sets to test the market. I doubt Lucasfilm doesn’t want to promote Temple of Doom since we’re getting Hasbro figures
I'm pretty sure that they are going to release it - maybe September? That way they can roll out any sets from the Dial of Destiny, and maybe a few smaller sets from the other movies. Just a guess, but it would make sense marketing wise.
It’s weird for this set to get fully canceled. They went through literally every development process for the set and decided like 2 months before release to cancel it.
Revisiting this a year later.... still nothing, which is just sad. Sounds like Lego is reconsidering never doing sets for the Indiana Jones property due to how Disney handled this canceled temple of doom set. Very frustrating.
This this makes me think they’re holding Temple of Doom back to launch with the new films sets , so there aren’t too many sets available at once, cannibalising sales of this first wave
Even if we never get this set there’s still other scenes from temple of doom we can get E.G. the Shanghai bar from the start, the plane, the river rapids, the final bridge battle etc etc etc
Yeah, from what I heard from the statement, the Temple of Doom set may not actually have been cancelled. If anything, it might've just been delayed. While I kinda prefer the original sets from the 2000s mainly because of nostalgia, I do like these new sets too.
I'm wondering if it's the same issue as the Marvel Mech builds last year, and there's just an engineering/design issue that has to be fixed. Or maybe they don't want all the sets to drop at once, and trying to pace the larger Indy sets out, so they don't overwhelm at retail. Those are the two most logical reasons, I feel.
Maybe they'll rework the Temple of Doom as an 18+ set and release it as a follow up to the Temple of the Golden Idol next year. That could be a game plan to keep the series running a bit longer after the hype for the 5th film has passed and the waves of standard sets have come and gone. Three or four 18+ sets over the next three or four years would be most welcomed.
I hope the temple of doom comes out eventually! This was my favorite movie as a kid and I missed out on the original set and it's crazy expensive on the aftermarket now. Fingers crossed!
The set could be canceled for sure. But it was speculated that Escape From the Lost Tomb was going to be $80 but after an official reveal it’s $40. $80 was the price of The Temple of Doom set. Maybe a mistake on the retailer (Target) but it could potentially be released after a delay for that $80 if it’s coming. As well speculation said that Temple of Doom would a Target exclusive. Could be canceled but seems possible for a delay.
This line of thinking with the Temple of Doom set is hopefully more spot on than other theories. As you pointed out, all four sets carry risky elements inherited from the films. Heck, both the Lost Tomb and the Temple of Doom heavily deal with religious deities. When I read Lego's statement about optimizing their Indiana Jones product line, maybe that is what they are doing for the Temple of Doom set? The back lash for its aesthetics were definitely loud and hopefully Lego is taking that seriously and redesigning the set! Because if you think about it, three sets that perfectly replicate their source material then one set that clearly doesn't would make an odd line up.
I think any setpieces that were levels in the Lego Indy games should be fair game. Hopefully they will release more sets over the summer: Raiders of the Lost Ark: Ravenwood Barfight The Flying Wing The Truck Chase Ark Opening Ceremony Temple of Doom: Club Obi Wan Pankot Palace The Bridge Showdown The Last Crusade: The Circus Train Pursuit Tomb of Sir Richard Venice Boat Chase Brunwald Castle Motorcycle Chase The Tank Temple of the Holy Grail Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: The Rocket Sled The Jungle Cutter Temple of Akator Heck, I’d love to see some sets based off the Young Indy TV show or some of the games
Maybe they decided to delay it because if The Temple of Doom had come out, that’d be 2 very expensive sets for sale at once. Nonetheless, I have hope it’ll come out. LEGO wouldn’t just design new figs for Willie Scott and Short Round, and specific printing for Indie, just to not release it. They’ll probably just release it during the second wave, with the new LEGO Indie sets.
Looking at it, I could definitely see how it could be a build stability issue, and I really hope that's all it is. I find it really weird that lego didn't mention it at all, but all I know is that it would be unfortunate to only have have sets from movies 1 and 3 of one of the greatest trilogies of all time. Ideally we get more than one Indy wave, and in that next wave they give us a bigger, less off-looking Temple of Doom.
@@operatorspectre7428 Right? Honestly, if it's delayed because it's being redone, that would actually be awesome. Just from the look of it, this is definitely the weakest set from this wave (just in terms of accuracy to the scene), and I would love if they just turned it into something perhaps a little more similar to the temple of the golden idol.
@Nathan Wharton yeah it truly frustrates me that they would leave such important details of that iconic scene out. Like yeah i get it is pretty dark but from a collectible standpoint it would be awesome

The Temple of Doom is cool and i realy hope that it will eventually apear. I also hope that one day Lego will finally make a set with the Temple of Holy Grall, preferably as a UCS. Btw, Grall is the only one artefact from Indiana Jones that was never appeared in any Lego sets.
My only issue with this wave is the lack smaller sets ...I wish they did a set of Indy shooting the guy with the sword or something small like that in a set ...I love the sets just wish they released more variety...
yeah, it's a little weird to ONLY remake 3 existing sets rather than expanding upon the catalog, like remakes are cool but why not add in additional sets of things they haven't made. the fireplace scene from the last crusade is way more iconic than the fighter plane imo. that would be a dope set. the lost city of petra from last crusade. the arc opening from raiders. there's too many. also would have preferred a shanghai chase remake than the lost temple. not complaining by any means, i'm so excited for these sets and i'm going to buy all of them. it's just weird, this can't be the only 3 they release it just wouldn't make sense.
@@lowkeykane7209 exactly..you hit the nail on the head...those are all amazing scenes...the fireplace scene and even the scenes in Venice from the last crusade would have been cool...idk I feel like they are playing it too safe with these sets...I hope there are some more sets on the way 🤞🏽
I am at least hoping that they will make more lego indiana jones sets such as the temple of the holy grail and a upgrade of the Temple of the crystal skull and Hoping that they will try to sell the temple of doom as a little fixing change up.
As an avid Indiana Jones fan since I was 5, and being too young to buy the original series, seeing these sets makes me so happy. And even tho the temple set is very clunky, goofy, and not accurate, I was most excited for that one out of the 3 that were originally announced. I just really hope it isn’t canceled.
I really do hope that LEGO makes a set based off Temple of Doom atleast. A few ideas like the bridge scene, the palace, and the room with the traps and stuff
My students and I talked about this set and we all agreed that it looks incredibly weak at the base of the temple. It’s cool, and my anthropology class would love to get it when it comes out.
It's not canceled, it's being released in June, when the second wave of Retro Collection figures, which includes the "Temple of Doom" wave, is being released. "Temple of Doom" Retros, "Temple of Doom" Lego set.
I’m agreeing with you that it’s most likely releasing later.considering the stuff there getting away with in the other sets such as the ark and the pilot I don’t see why this one set specifically would be cancelled
It also just occurred to me - that Temple of Doom set also features lots of Burgundy and Reddish Brown bricks - AKA Brittle Brown. It could be that they need to change some color palettes because of how fragile the bricks alone might be.
That issue with those colors have actually been fixed for a few years now. I also don’t see here anything out of the ordinary for builds. But that was a good theory!
The Temple of Doom was my favorite Indiana Jones film as a kid, I always wanted to get my hands on the set but never got the chance.. *I was believing I could fulfill my childhood dreams.*
I have the original Lego Indiana jones figure, and even short round. They’re in decent condition, except Indianas packs strap is busted. Other than that it’s pretty good. I have a couple of Indians jones figures, but the one that I mentioned is the only one that is in one piece. Those were some good times. 😊😀👍
Hey Ashnflash: Thank you for the detailed video, overview and thoughts on another bizarre move by LEGO and / or Lucasfilm. The “consolidated launch” jargon is a bit odd for me to follow as I am an omni-channel marketing consultant who would be asked to develop a product / brand and the content / campaign to launch something similar. If given this, project to, “Relaunch LEGO Indiana Jones” in 2023, this isn’t rocket science, that said, I would have developed 4 sets for Spring, choosing the most iconic moment from each of the prior 4 films and then released 3-5 sets (4+ set, small, medium, large) depicting iconic moments from the upcoming film for Summer and another 5 sets, depicting then 2nd most iconic moments from each of the 5 films, for the Fall wave. The fact that Temple of Doom is being postponed or dropped is odd, considering this scene IS a fan favorite. The fact that the Crystal Skull film (though not a fan favorite) is ignored in the initial wave is odd, considering the initial wave was to include 4 sets, with 1 film, duplicated across 2 sets. Again, it’s not rocket science, yet apparently, it is more complex than needed, as whomever on either the LEGO and / or Lucasfilm side, is having difficultly. Oh well… While stickers are truly disappointing on the display set from Raiders, I like what we’ve seen, so far and will be buying. I think the Temple of Doom set is the 2nd best of the lot. Truly hope, it gets released.
Strange, that they decided to keep the very same hat for Dr.Henry Jones. It's recoloured helmet, but in the movie he wore a different hat. Somehow they decided not to recreate it as a new piece.
Well, I’m very very glad they’re acknowledging it, rather than pretending like the set doesn’t exist. This whole situation has been so weird from the beginning though. Honestly if I had to guess, this time around, it isn’t LEGO’s fault, but rather Lucasfilm’s. There’s just so many odd things happening with this wave for me to think it’s strictly a LEGO thing.
I think the new Temple of Doom looks pretty dump and is a major downgrade from the original. That said, your analysis is spot on and if they're holding it back for reasons of "offensiveness" it would be ludicrous. I really hope some focus group gave them reason to go back and do better with that set.
I think it has to do with something related lo license or something, because Hasbro hasnt made a mola Ram for the adventure series or the Kali thugs nor Willie Scott figures, only thing we've got has been the Indiana Jones looks and outfits and Shortie
I will be buying the two sets in this wave and buy the minifigures from the golden idle set, but I am pretty annoyed that we won't be getting the temple of doom or at least not yet
I bought the original set used, with pieces and figures missing and it was frustrating to get replacements including the figures, which were expensive individually, including Mola Ram and his henchmen. If I could do it again, I'd just pay more for a complete set. The carts and track were fun.
The fact that they let u (a LAN member ) show it in ur video, I strongly believe it’s not cancelled 🫠 if it’s cancelled why even let u show it in a video to make fans angry 😂 (maybe it’s a marketing tactic to get fans’ attention 👀)
I mean they had already made a Temple of Doom set in 2009, maybe a brand new set would have been better - Lao Che's casino maybe? And maybe a better Last Crusade set - The Grail Temple including Donovan and the Grail Knight?
I really need this theme to do well because Indiana Jones is so nostalgic to me and Temple of Doom was my favourite, I watched it when I was 6 or 7. I guess next year they could do the bridge scene, here's to hope
When it comes to Legos statement I go to their wording of the launch consisting of only three sets. I also do agree with the set potentially not being the most structurally sound. Plus Lego has made some sets depicting dark scenes such as the 2012 Jabbas palace and rancor pit where you can make the trapdoor function as seen in Return of the Jedi. As well as the 2017 Duel on Naboo set where you recreate Qui-Gon's death and then Maul being cut in half and falling down the shaft by Obi-Wan, so it isn't like Lego hasn't made sets depicting dark scenes.
my hope is that if lego is cancelling stuff they would KNOW that theyre disappointing us and making us lose trust in their brand. plus why would they make an entire box art design if they would only use it for two sets.
They would have had to make a new mold for Mola Ram’s skull headdress thing, I don’t think they’d make a new mold and then cancel the only set it would appear in, they’ve probably already started producing the pieces even if the set isn’t finalized, so I assume they’re just fixing or changing something in the set and will release it later
I'm just sad their is no KotCS sets. i know its not the most popular film, but it was that film that gave use Lego Indy in the first place and got some great moments to make sets out of
Makes me chuckle. It was ok for me to watch some one’s heart been ripped out as a primary age kid back in the 80s. And don’t get me started on watching Jaws at the age of 5. Scarred for life!
The issue definitely has something to do with the Thuggee. Mola Ram was also cancelled in Hasbro's Adventure Series. So it's more than likely a Lucasfilm issue, which is frustrating.
I’m just so glad I have almost every set from the original and best series because it truly will not ever be the same it’s cool for it to come back but the og sets are just amazing.
The other I.J. sets also look like modernized old sets, which is OK I guess. I would like a new _Temple of Doom_ set with elephants for the main characters to ride. There were two elephants before I.J. in the Adventurers series which was like I.J. Getting one is moderately expensive, and I haven't seen a good baby elephant for Short Round to ride. I could see it being the nighttime scene with bats, critters and a snake in a tree as well as the three elephants, or crossing the stream when Willie falls in.
I think stability is possibly the most plausible explanation. One thing you forgot to mention was that the Ark Chamber also has statues of Anubis and the Hovitos Temple has depictions of other deities, such as the golden idol itself. If they canceled the Temple of Doom for it's depiction of a particular culture, or any potentially controversial reasons, then why include the other three sets? It seems more plausible that a different factor is involved. And I'm thinking it has more to do with the set's design in terms of LEGO's standards of play. Meanwhile, I'm thinking about rebuilding my old Indiana Jones sets. One being the old Ark Chamber. It might be neat to do a comparison. Judging from the images, I think the new one is a definitive improvement. Or I could use elements from the original set, including the snakes and stickered elements to mod the set into a more complete room or diorama. The old Hieroglyphs do kind of fit still. They were transparent stickers placed on sand colored elements. I could even go all out and buy another copy of the new set because I think there were 4 statues of Anubis in the scene and an absurd amount of snakes. Obviously more Hieroglyphs would improve the setting. I also have the Ultimate Guide Book for Indiana Jones, which includes depictions of the layouts for each ruin and temple.
But seriously i really hope that they release this. It was my favorite Indiana jones movie of my childhood. Loved the aesthetic of the setting and the outfits, like seriously THAT SKULL was literally the coolest thing i had seen. And when the Old set was revealed in 2008 i was seriously more hyped than any other set i had ever seen at that time.

This was a day one buy for me, hands down. And I'm sure it was for many, many others. I hope Lego realizes this and releases this set.
This this makes me think they’re holding Temple of Doom back to launch with the new films sets , so there aren’t too many sets available at once, cannibalising sales of this first wave
I just love the fact that this was offensive yet a litteraire nazi plane and pilot is good to go
I wish they would release a shanghai set from temple of doom, there could be so many cool parts and play features
Our last chance to get a Temple of Doom set is gone forever...
Did you Watch the video? Cause that really wasnt the main point to it.
not necessarily, still a chance it could just be delayed
It might not be gone, It could have been delayed.
I still have hope that it'll eventually be released
Even if we never get this set there’s still other scenes from temple of doom we can get E.G. the Shanghai bar from the start, the plane, the river rapids, the final bridge battle etc etc etc
You dont know that😏
Yeah, from what I heard from the statement, the Temple of Doom set may not actually have been cancelled.
Don’t you think hasbro would have said no long before a box and stuff. Most toy company has to show concept art and get approval before making stuff
I hope the temple of doom comes out eventually! This was my favorite movie as a kid and I missed out on the original set and it's crazy expensive on the aftermarket now. Fingers crossed!
Every statement Lego ever puts out is just some half-butt beat around the bush non answer to the actual question statement.
It still sucks that this was canceled. It looked so cool and I never got the original
I think any setpieces that were levels in the Lego Indy games should be fair game. Hopefully they will release more sets over the summer:
Raiders of the Lost Ark:
Ravenwood Barfight
The Flying Wing
The Truck Chase
Ark Opening Ceremony
Temple of Doom:
Club Obi Wan
Pankot Palace
The Bridge Showdown
The Last Crusade:
The Circus Train Pursuit
Tomb of Sir Richard
Venice Boat Chase
Brunwald Castle
Motorcycle Chase
The Tank
Temple of the Holy Grail
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull:
The Rocket Sled
The Jungle Cutter
Temple of Akator
Heck, I’d love to see some sets based off the Young Indy TV show or some of the games
I really hope
It's delayed to the second wave. There was a malfunction in the build, and the rails kept collapsing
Id kill to get an updated version of that set with the lava cage and a sliding floor opening mechanism.
@@operatorspectre7428 Especially with them marketing so hard that LEGO is for adults just as much as it is for kids. Just slap an 18+ label on the set and give us those details lol. Can't be that hard, right?
The Temple of Doom is cool and i realy hope that it will eventually apear. I also hope that one day Lego will finally make a set with the Temple of Holy Grall, preferably as a UCS. Btw, Grall is the only one artefact from Indiana Jones that was never appeared in any Lego sets.
Temple of doom would fit the ucs type to I want the bridge scene
I hope this set comes out eventually I want it so bad. I recently found 2 of the sets already and I would love to add this one to the collection
@@lowkeykane7209 exactly..you hit the nail on the head...those are all amazing scenes...the fireplace scene and even the scenes in Venice from the last crusade would have been cool...idk I feel like they are playing it too safe with these sets...I hope there are some more sets on the way 🤞🏽
I really want the circus train from 3 and Young Indiana Jones
Statement feels like “we’re not cancelling it, just delaying it”.
I am at least hoping that they will make more lego indiana jones sets such as the temple of the holy grail and a upgrade of the Temple of the crystal skull and Hoping that they will try to sell the temple of doom as a little fixing change up.
Really leaning towards the delay being a structural thing. Maybe we’ll get this early June or in August.
Would be sad not to get one sleeve Indy and Short Round. Those are iconic.
People are too soft these days…. It’s a TOY based on a MOVIE
Can’t they just make another Lego Indy set for the bridge
Lego really missed their chance to say, "celebrate Ke Huy Quan's Oscar win with this new Short Round figure that started his career."
I read that a target employee saw the set in their “inventory” and got delayed, not cancelled, to august 1st.
It's not canceled, it's being released in June, when the second wave of Retro Collection figures, which includes the "Temple of Doom" wave, is being released. "Temple of Doom" Retros, "Temple of Doom" Lego set.
What’s your source for this?
Liar it was never released
I suppose I'd be too hard to just say either yes its canceled or no it's not canceled.
2:15 and I'm grateful they went out of their way to accurately recreate a genuinely good movie.
It's not risky if you say it's risky. To me that's just a scene from a movie that I watched when I was 7 years old.
Perhaps that had doubts about it selling well so are seeing how the others do first.
my only true sadness is not being able to get little shorty....
Hopefully it's just delayed,TOD is my personal favorite of the series. We need an updated Short Round,he's an Oscar winner now.
I think the new Temple of Doom looks pretty dump and is a major downgrade from the original. That said, your analysis is spot on and if they're holding it back for reasons of "offensiveness" it would be ludicrous. I really hope some focus group gave them reason to go back and do better with that set.
Right on! The old school set blows this one out of the ciffside!
I found the Plane Chase and Lost Tomb sets at my local Fred Meyer (Kroger’s for those of you on the East Coast) yesterday! Picked them up immediately
I think it has to do with something related lo license or something, because Hasbro hasnt made a mola Ram for the adventure series or the Kali thugs nor Willie Scott figures, only thing we've got has been the Indiana Jones looks and outfits and Shortie
Actually a few people have made mocks of this set using instructions, their own pieces, and pieces which they ordered online.
This comment aged like milk
In short: there’s no guarantee that it’ll be cancelled, LEGO just wants to focus on a smaller lineup for now until further notice
We need this set to release, it would make no sense to completely skip out on making any Temple of Doom sets.
They're just movies. People really need to get over themselves.
my hope is that if lego is cancelling stuff they would KNOW that theyre disappointing us and making us lose trust in their brand. plus why would they make an entire box art design if they would only use it for two sets.
Hope it comes out in the future/soon I ALSO WANT A SHORT ROUND FIGURE!
Especially since Harrison and Ke recent hug in the Oscars!
This is such a vague non-statement that only a corporation could ever make.
I know alot of people don't like it, but I hope they still make new sets based on crystal skull
I think it was bc of the middle set piece w the statue of the diety, the scene as whole was controversial in the film and was back then too
They would have had to make a new mold for Mola Ram’s skull headdress thing, I don’t think they’d make a new mold and then cancel the only set it would appear in, they’ve probably already started producing the pieces even if the set isn’t finalized, so I assume they’re just fixing or changing something in the set and will release it later
Awesome video ashnflash
It's the one set I really wanted, I loved the original. Seriously hoping it's only delayed and not cancelled
So why is the temple of doom set canceled
I’m so disappointed
The issue definitely has something to do with the Thuggee. Mola Ram was also cancelled in Hasbro's Adventure Series. So it's more than likely a Lucasfilm issue, which is frustrating.
I’m just so glad I have almost every set from the original and best series because it truly will not ever be the same it’s cool for it to come back but the og sets are just amazing.
Just replace the Kali statue with a skull. Worked with the old set.
They never said they wouldn't release it. If anything, this hints towards it being delayed not cancelled.
Lego: someone might find it offensive :0
Also lego: Nazi plane go burrrrrrrrrr
