He did it because martial law is the only legal way to stop protests which are happening against him right now. Talk about being self centered.

It's strange that the West does not support democratic protests in Korea. Are we already living under totalitarianism?

The opposition has committed enormous illegalities and irregularities, and it's now the majority, and it continues to commit evil. The president's actions were inevitable.

But I guess both are nominally big supporters of democracy. 🙃

He has a very bad reputation in Korea, but I didn't know he was this crazy.
All Koreans are puzzled now. It was so random that I thought it was April Fool's Day
Emergency martial law will fail anyway.
The Korean people can never accept it
    --------------------------------------------------------------

I'm Korean. Now the president has a very low approval rating, with his approval rating exceeding 20 percent. Recently, negative events related to the president's wife's work have erupted, leading the public opinion on impeachment. It was done alone even though there was no dangerous situation for martial law to be imposed in Korea. It will probably be withdrawn immediately if lawmakers gather in the National Assembly and a majority of them oppose martial law, and the president has deployed soldiers to the National Assembly to prevent it, and now the Korean National Assembly is in a state of chaos with a mixture of soldiers and other civilians. I have a headache. Actually, I didn't expect it to go this far …(Turn the translator so the content can be awkward)

Check the story of Japanese corporations which were behind the militarism. They exist to this day. And want money.

This is almost line by line similar to how Ferdinand Marcos Sr decided to announce martial law. Using perceived threats of communists to justify calling Marshal Law. I know many Filipinos will hate me on this, but that's literally word for word what Marcos Sr did.
I hope South Korea goes through this period cleanly and no negative long-lasting effects. The Philippines has gone downhill ever the Marshal law era.

This idiot saying it’s not a coup 🤦‍♀️
It’s a SELF-COUP, also called an autocoup (from Spanish autogolpe) or coup from the top, is a form of coup d'état in which a political leader, having come to power through legal means, stays in power through illegal means through the actions of themselves and/or their supporters.
The leader may dissolve or render powerless the national legislature and unlawfully assume extraordinary powers not granted under normal circumstances. Other measures may include annulling the nation's constitution, suspending civil courts, and having the head of government assume dictatorial powers.

As a citizen of the Republic of Korea, I support the recent declaration of martial law.
Recently, the operation of the Korean National Assembly has gone far beyond the spirit of democracy. For example, the Assembly impeached prosecutors who were investigating a member of the National Assembly's crimes. In addition, the Assembly has impeached more than 20 administrative officials and leaders without any evidence. Even the Assembly impeached the Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection for political reasons, just to prevent from investigating their past wrong doing. The opposition party is shaking the foundation of Korean democracy. Korean politicians lie and instigate politically without any hesitation. The National Assembly members, who have the highest power, are acting for their own benefit, not for the Korean citizen. We, Korean, are in trouble of serious dictatorship situation by National Assembly. It is really, so really, hardship. Some of Korean affordable are thinking to leave Korea for a foreign country, because of political incorrectness.
That is why the declaration of martial law to punish them was a very necessary action.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol backed down on his declaration of martial law but the tumultuous six hours recalled the country’s dark pre-democracy period. The declaration was opposed by the Democratic Party and some members of Yoon's People Power Party, and resulted in protests. Two hours later, on 4 Dec. despite attempts by security forces to prevent the vote, those MPs present in the National Assembly unanimously passed a motion to lift martial law 190-0. Yoon subsequently lifted martial law after a Cabinet meeting and the martial law command was disbanded. he has been mired in several corruption scandals this year - including one involving the First Lady accepting a Dior bag, and another around stock manipulation.
Just last month he was forced to issue an apology on national TV, saying he was setting up an office overseeing the First Lady's duties. But he rejected a wider investigation, which opposition parties had been calling for.
Then this week, the opposition proposed slashing a major government budget bill - which cannot be vetoed. At the same time, the opposition moved to impeach cabinet members and several top prosecutors including the head of the government's audit agency for failing to investigate Yoon's First Lady.
