    1. Cardboard egg carton
    2. Dryer lint
    3. Melted wax
    That’s it! And these work great for starting an easy campfire.

    my "strategy" is to pour gasoline all over the wood, then pour a gasoline line away from the bonfire, light the trail and run

    • @decombatnfl3639
      @decombatnfl3639 Год назад +12

      gasoline evaporates, if you wait a minute and more before lighting it, the air will explode into your face.

      @@decombatnfl3639 yeah, thats why i do it as quick as possible and run away from it as soon as i light it

    If no lint, cotton balls work great too.

    If it takes forever to catch on fire, it isn’t a fire starter.

    Here’s an even better idea- egg carton, wood shavings/sawdust, an empty can (tomato sauce, beans, peas etc) old wax and a pot.
    Fill pot with 2-3 inches of water. Bring to a bare simmer. Place can with wax on pot and slowly melt. Pack shavings/sawdust into egg carton. Pour over wax. Let harden and store in a zipper bag somewhere cool-ish.
    They’ll even burn when soaked in water, albeit harder to light

    I've never had very good results with dryer lint. There are too many synthetic fabrics in our wardrobe, in addition to all of the stinky pet hair.
    I prefer cotton balls soaked in a 50/50 solution of melted paraffin wax and vaseline, wrapped in a piece of foil, like a chocolate kiss.

    • @WaynesAdventure
      @WaynesAdventure 6 месяцев назад +2

      Yes I use cotton balls with Vaseline on it and it works great

    Or just out the tealight in there and take it out when the fire is done

    Love the simplicity of that. Toilet or kitchen paper would be better because those fibres from the tumble dryer would likely consist of both cotton and plastics, unless you only have natural fibres making up your clothing.

    Have an even better hack.
    So backstory: here in South Africa making a wood fire and cooking/bbq in it is part of the culture and a weekly affair. So single use firelighters in a box you can buy at any store but reusable firelighters has become very popular.
    To make your own cheap reusable firelighters:
    Get some porous stone, like pumice stone that used for foot washing/scraping. Pop them in a liquid tight jar and fill it with kerosene/paraffin.
    It burns a lot hotter and longer than lint+wax so you can skip the tinder and directly start packing dry thin pieces of wood. After the fire is out, scrape them out of the ashes and back in the jar to resoak and reuse.

    Why not just put the candle under the kindling instead?

    • @littlecampfires
      @littlecampfires  Год назад +6

      you could do that. The fire starter does produce a larger surface area of flame, and it doesn’t get put out by the wind as easily.

    Quick question, what is the reasoning behind pouring the candle wax?

    • @Exulll
      @Exulll 3 месяца назад +1

      it lets the lint burn a little longer to give extra time for the kindling to catch flame
