    What do you think about part-time vs full-time RV lifestyle?

  • @RVingWithJAS
    @RVingWithJAS 8 месяцев назад +7

    As newcomers to RVing we don’t see us not having a home base. We enjoy RVing and we enjoy our home. Hopefully, in the near future we will be seasonal Rvers and seasonal housers.😊

    • @AmpedtoGlamp
      @AmpedtoGlamp  8 месяцев назад

      That's like the most ideal setup to us. The best of both! 😊👍😎

    We’ve been and still are part timing since 1989. We are retired and bought another motorhome in 2021 and we still go out for a month or so and come home, stay home for a bit and roll out for however long we feel like it. Simple.👌

    We love still having a homebase and being part time, weekenders etc. It is so nice to get back home for a bit. I don't think I could ever do 100% full time. Great video you guys

    Agree we have been part time rving for about 3 years and we love it. I am now retired and we are looking forward for slower travels but not full time. We have met folks who are full timing and love it, we always look forward to coming back home to chill and reminisce on our travels. Good video maybe you want to think about a packing list video when going for short/long trips. Just saying. Take care!

    Thanks for the video, Sherri and John. I have wanted to go out on the road full-time for many years. I have enough income and I'm on my second career. But what I don't want to do is to be (as Darin would say "RV poor"). Even worse, I want to be able to park my RV somewhere when an electrical grid goes haywire or we have another pandemic without feeling like I'm trapped. Therefore, I've decided to go ahead and do several things before I go full-time (and if I can't do them, I'll just do it part-time). As you stated, it's all about the experience, not so much the time status. This is what I plan to do:
    1. Buy some unrestricted land on the east and west coasts;
    2. Take an RV maintenance/repair class (I want to at least be able to do simple repairs and know the different systems within my RV so I'm not taken for granted when I need repairs done);
    3. Have an emergency fund to cover: at least two months of hotel, motel, and/or Airbnb living, plus enough to cover someone transporting my RV from the West Coast to the East Coast (where my doctors are in case I need to receive treatment for my disability unexpectedly), plus enough to cover airfare from the west coast to the east in case I need to fly home because I have an older sister, elderly father, and children and grandchildren who I may need to get to at a moment's notice; and finally: have enough to cover any expenses my cat may need while out on the road with me;
    4. Buy some RV memberships that will ensure I can live the type of full-time RV lifestyle I want;
    5. Be able to pay for storage in case I want to take a cruise or go to another country via airfare, or just a break from driving the RV! Just because you move into an RV doesn't mean you may not want to take a vacation from your RV home!
    6. Have enough money that I won't be cash-poor living in my "fun" RV! Because of my new career, I'll have a lot of conferences and classes I still need to attend, and I don't want to feel limited just because I can't really afford the full-time lifestyle. This would definitely be a factor in what I buy, and how I choose to do RV life. I might even be a "half-timer" (6 months totally living full-time RV life and 6 months part-time). Like that slogan from Burger King says "have it your way"!
    Will these goals change? Probably. But I have to at least have a plan for the things that can happen, just like you have in a sticks and bricks home. Again, I enjoy all of your videos and I'm glad you told people that they can do RV life part-time. We all just want to enjoy the RV lifestyle - how you do it is up to YOU! See ya' next time!

    • @AmpedtoGlamp
      @AmpedtoGlamp  6 месяцев назад

      Wow! You've really thought it though. These are great and I'd like to share them in a future video. RVers planning for full-time living often forget about number 3. Great insight!

    You give good info. I did not know full-timing could void a warranty.
    I have been an rv'er (just me and my dogs) for 20+ years, all towing a trailer/toyhauler. I did a 2 week trip to SFO, a fishing trip to Montana (going to the sun highway!), a cross Canada return trip and extensive outings throughout western Canada. (I live 4 hrs NE of Vancouver, BC).
    My (secret) tip to you. The best, and free, places to overnight are in cemeteries. Quiet neighbours, and if you show up later in the p.m. mostly likely the civic workers have finished for the day. Not to mention the easy in and out driveways.....

    • @AmpedtoGlamp
      @AmpedtoGlamp  7 месяцев назад

      Wow! Lots of experience and travel under your belt! You must have built some awesome memories! Thanks for the tip but I have this thing with cemeteries. I can't be near them.. I won't go into it but I'm super sensitive. In fact when we travel we have to be at least 2 miles away, preferably more 😬😳.

    We need to go full time because our family lives in Oregon, Minnesota, New York and Arizona. Plus we are not rich and cannot keep a house while we are on the road. We are not keeping the house to rent because we lost a house doing that.

    Great video, I think if a person decides to travel over 3000 miles in a year. I would suggest a Diesel pusher they have stronger chassis, gas chassis especially the newer ones have issues where you get a lot of ratting and things falling apart. My 99 & 03 Bounders could handle the earth quakes of the road my 2013 not as well. Please keep the videos coming you guys keep it real.

      We would love to have a diesel pusher. In fact we ordered one with the hopes of having it before Yellowstone. But unfortunately, when it arrived at the dealership we refused delivery due to all the problems it had. They don't make them like they used to! Thanks for chiming in on the discussion and safe travels!

    We love the part time RV life-We stay home from Nov 1st to March 1st -truth be told, it’s cold everywhere even down south-March 1st to May 1st we hit the road-then back again during summer -we stay north a week here a week there -then we head the road again Sept 1st to November 1st -the truth is these RV’s aren’t good in extreme heat or cold either so we go during milder months avoiding places with extreme summer temperatures and cold winters-Also good for us because we can get out and explore during milder temperatures-we like having our community family, friends and ALL the things you mentioned-people need to know that part time is a great choice-Personally I believe some RUclips people fake it and CLAIM they are full time when they really aren’t-Also many RUclips people have quit the full time RV life and have gone to a part time Rv lifestyle-Happy travels 🤩🚌🇺🇸🎉⭐️

    We love our travel trailer and camping in it. But, there’s no place like home! We have great amenities at home (pool, hot tub, garden, A/C) that we enjoy spring to fall. We love long weekend camping trips a couple of times a month, but would never live in our trailer full time.

    The biggest mistake RVers make is purchasing a "regular" RV. Regular RVs aren't designed to run up and down the road constantly. Me personally, I would prefer to purchase a "Greyhound Bus" (new) refurbish it into a RV. they are more solid, and designed to run down the road all day, everyday.

    • @AmpedtoGlamp
      @AmpedtoGlamp  8 месяцев назад

      Greyhound buses are built by (or used to be) MCI with steel frames and are capable of going millions of miles. MCIs used to be quite expensive. I'll have to check out a few conversion vids. Thanks for sharing!

    Great video! We are part-time but could be full-time however I do want to keep a home base and that is why I choose to be part time. I think I would get burnt out being out there all the time and sometimes I just like being home in familiar surroundings and with family. But full-time does sound fun. 😊

    Your vlog hits a lot of big points and lay's out some great idea's, but I have to disagree with many of the points you made as far as full-timer's that are not RUclipsrs are concerned, and that is ok because you are not full-timers, you are taking cue's from the RUclips Full-timer's who only show what they think people want to see, but there is so much more to it. When we were part time we were just like you two explained, we hit all the cool, fun and interesting spots but always wished we had more time. That is when we decided to go fulltime so we could choose when, where and how we wanted to live this lifestyle. We now get to spend as much or as little time in places as we please. As for the home base part we actually have a home base in the form of a home park. We travel as we please and return to our home campground where we have our family, our doctors, our dentist, our mail box and friends. We love to have the ability to pack it up and move at will. Our 5th wheel has just over 60k miles on it and as long as I put in the maintenance it will travel without much issue. We made sure we picked an rv that was Fulltime Warrantied by the manufacturer, our insurance provider covers us as fulltime rvers, and we actually have better coverage than we had in our sticks and bricks. We face the same uncertainties of stick and brick homes as far as damage or loss, we may have a little more concerns because our new home has wheels and moves, but other than that the liabilities are still the same. Trust me I fully get what you are saying, your points are definitely not lost on me, and i know you your audience is not the full-timer, but the part-timer, but i would be remised not to comment on the realities of fulltime life without a stationary home. After over 6 yrs on the road for us we still have the same passion if not more passion for travel and adventure. We love it out here on the road, the challenges are different, but the living is still the same. With all that, there is sometime about part-time living that is appealing for many. I hope we get to cross paths with you two at some point, love your vlogs and your energy and enthusiasm, please keep that up.

      I really hope my response didn't come off to aggressive, i'm just really passionate about this lifestyle and everything that i has to offer. We parttimed/weekend camped for awhile, but it just didn't scratch the itch so to speak. As fulltimers we get the best of all sides of this lifestyle. We can weekend, extend or fulltime camp at will.
