    Haha, as someone who recently realized I was somehow in my 40s, your comments on "is that how that happens, am I that old now?" really hit home 😂😂
    Thanks for the warning about old China, I never would have considered that and I have some old dishes from my grandparents. Beautiful dishes ❤ You should definitely keep collecting and doing what you enjoy!

    Hey, great to see ya! First of all, how do you keep your porcelain sink so white? I have on, and the bottom is a dingy yellow.
    Second, I knew I was old when I was working at Target, had to ID someone for alcohol, and they were born when I was in high school. I also felt old when I got a gift card for Christmas, bought an electric kettle with it, and was really excited about it!
    So, the story I was working on a Collins/Mary fanfic based on the Utah adaptation. I was a bit burned out on it, but I'm thinking about starting up again... I have the same problem with all the scenes in my head coming AFTER the major plot twist.

    Do you collect whole sets of china? Have you been to or had a tea party? I had a friend that gave a tea party once. I want to go to a tea room someday soon. A few years ago my grandma gave me a set of china but I don't use it. I like the plain Corelle dishes because they don't break so easily. But the set is pretty, I have the big platter on display. I agree, thrift stores should have some warning labels on dishes.

    I'm a writer and I write out future scenes too! Sometimes when I reach the point where they are to be added, I have to change a few things to match what happened before the event, but not much! And...I LOVE that teapot! It's gorgeous!

    • @ElectraDashwood
      @ElectraDashwood  5 месяцев назад +3

      That is so cool! It’s amazing that you don’t have to change that much. Sometimes it feels like some scenes are just foundational to a story! Maybe that is why they come first into our minds. Also, I’m so obsessed with the teapot too!

    I'm a writer, published only short pieces though. Just finished the first draft of a novel. When it comes to first vrs third - I had a previous project that I originally wrote in first, then I switched it to third, and then a few years later, I switched it back to first. Somehow the switching strengthened the voice of the main character. LOL! Just write what you can - it's a first draft, as long as you get something down, that's what matters. You can always go back and revise and fill in missing scenes.

    • @ElectraDashwood
      @ElectraDashwood  5 месяцев назад +2

      That's so interesting! I once had a creative writing teacher say, "One of the best things that can happen to you is having your whole book deleted. So then you'll re-write it because it will be so much better the second time around.' I guess it just shows the re-writing can be powerful. 😂

    • @veronicaleighauthor
      @veronicaleighauthor 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@ElectraDashwood There's truth in your teacher's advice. I've never deleted a draft, but I have started over from scratch. For one of my WIP's, I used the previous draft I had as a sort of template, and basically rewrote the story. It was much improved after that.

    I have china, thanks to Mum finding it all cheap on Facebook marketplace. I have more than space to put it all, so I'm trying to work that out. My Dad always talked about building my 'glory box' (NZ's word for a hope chest, I think) but he never found time and then he got Alzheimer's :( Mum's been determined for me to be able to host dinner parties etc and her challenge for herself at the end of last year was to get a dining table into my house. She succeeded.

    Nothing is ever too young or too old enough to collect things that you love. Plus, I think it is so interesting to know about the history of Bone China and Fine China. My grandmother has a small collection of Noritake Fine China and it's been with her forever as far as me remembering her serving food on it only for super fancy occasions, but most of the time it would only be in their glass cupboard. I think I only saw her served it out only 3 times in the time I am aware of, maybe it might be more before I was born. But I only remember 3 times.
    Anyway, love this video. You are indeed awesome.

    I think it's definitely a good idea to write down the scenes that won't leave your mind, otherwise we might end up forgetting them and when we get to that point in the story, we might end up writing a less vibrant version of them. In other news, I love the waltz at the end of the vlog 😍

  • @faithful2thecall

    Hi kitty! Thrift stores do tend to be like that, so it's always best to go in with low expectations so you're more pleasantly surprised when you find something good than disappointed when you don't find anything. Yay to getting out in nature! Yeah, that sounds like you might have overexerted yourself a bit, especially if your body was wanting to stay home. It's always nice to have a few spares when it comes to glass things, especially with comments you've made in the past about your history with glass things.
    Good for you for getting back to your novel. If you keep working on it at a pace your body will allow I have faith that you'll complete it. I get the general concept of what you're thinking about for POV, and I have seen stories where different chapters will be from a different character's POV so it could work. What I would suggest for those scenes is to write them down while they're still in your mind so you remember them when you get to that point of the story, even if they get edited to fit the story that's developed. I paused the video to write a couple of those sentences only to have you turn around and say practically the same thing, so great minds think alike I guess. 😁 I have done some creative writing before, and I keep meaning to try my hand at it again.
    You keep being awesome, because you're awesome as well Ellie! ❤✌

    • @ElectraDashwood
      @ElectraDashwood  5 месяцев назад +1

      That is such a good idea of managing expectations when going thrifting! And having spares is essential if you're me. 😄
      That's so funny that you thought the same thing about writing! It must definitely be the way to go. You should definitely get back to creative writing. It's such a great outlet!
      And, aw, thank you! You're awesome!
