@Nanoj1412 It is up to you. Weigh up your options first and understand what focal length you would want to operate on primarily and go from there. Cheers, the Canon team.
@Fakeblad Tilt-shift lenses enable you to focus on different parts of your subject. It is also often used to control perspective in architecture & landscape photographs.
Hey there - it does depend on what you want to shoot. For portraits, photographers usually choose 50mm and/or 85mm focal lengths. Remember also some cameras have a 1.6x crop factor (e.g. not full frame); so that will change the effective focal length. What other questions do you have at this stage?
hey there some of the lenses, maybe all of them, featured do not mount on full frame cameras and so the referred to '50mm', even as marked on the lens, is 50 x 1.6 in relation to 35mm equivalency. the desirable 50mm you refer to is as 35mm equivalency. these 'canon australia' videos are very poorly done. hey there
@Eastborder The EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS is a popular standard zoom lens for the EOS 500D. Check it out here: canon.com.au/For-You/Camera-Lenses/EF-S18-200mm-f35-56-IS-Lens Do let us know how you go. Cheers, the Canon team.
so then by 'higher quality' you must mean 'reduced' depth of field, since larger aperture reduces dof. i can't get over that canon is putting out such jibberish.
@28acnaib Hi there, you will see that both lenses are great for someone starting out with DSLR photography. If you can, get your hands on both! Cheers, the Canon team.
@Klshnikov Depending on your EOS body, it would be good for wide-angle shots (e.g. landscape) to portrait shots. Let your creativity guide you. Cheers, the Canon team.
@Nanoj1412 the 70-200mm f4 is such a nice piece of glass it's so light and if your looking for something to get you started in portraiture or sports it's something you won't be dissapointed in. it's not the fastest aperture but the autofocus is fast and accurate. super nice contrast smooth bokeh. all in all its a great day time lens.
Hello there, I don't know if you are still looking for the 70-300 mm but here are some tips... Go to dpreview website, under lenses tab, select canon... It will give you all the lenses that Canon manufacture, locate the range you want to buy and then click on the small plus sign to add them to the compare bar located at the bottom of the page... Read the comparison which also will include a link to know the price on Amazon which will include sample galleries as well...
Can we apply the same photography principles that you are "assigning" theses lenses to do for filming as well? I have a 600D and some of the stuff that I've seen on youtube about it looks amazing, so I was just wondering if the same principle was applied. Thank you.
Hi, i've recently purchased a Canon 50mm 1.8 prime lens and im very happy with it. Im thinking of purchasing a zoom lens. But I do not really have a high budget, do you prefer the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS or the Canon EF 75-300mm F4-5.6 III USM? I cant really decide on what to buy, please help. Thanks!
@Jonnyriffic The Sigma 50mm F1.4 is getting a ton of praise. I can't suggest any other lens since I haven't looked into it. anything from 50-100mm is good for portraits. 85mm, I believe, is considered the standard portrait.
Great Video! I just bought a Canon Cl VL AF Macro CL 8-120mm f1.4-2.1 VLAF Video Macro Lens but I wonder if I need a lens converter for it. I have a Canon T3i.
F-stop/aperture is just as important as focal length. Get a fast lens (lower f-stop) to get much better portraits (DOF), better low light performance, or faster shutter speed for action.
I have the 15-85mm for my 550D and find it has really enhanced my usage of this camera. It is now my everyday lens and has replaced the kit 18-55mm altogether. Maybe if it had been released at the time this video came out it may have featured?
@jrhineberger it all depends on your budget. generally speaking any lens above 50mm should do the trick. some of the current lenses that are excelent at this are the FA 50mm f/1.4, DA* 55mm, DA 70mm Limited, FA 77mm Limited, DA* 50-135mm. if you're on a tight budget and you don't mind manual control you can buy a used old K mount lens, can be even 30-40 years old, that will cost you very little cash and can deliver great results.
Hey awesome video... I am just sorta doing some video editing and want to move to a more pro camera like the canon 5d mk ii... if your chasing lenses for everyday, sports, interview and maybe more of a movie look what would you guys all recommend?? cheers
@alaa13666 EF-s and EF lenses...you can only use the 17-85 for EF-S mount cameras..the xxD and xxxD cameras...and 17-40 can be used on all cameras...both cropped and uncropped sensors.
Hi i just started photography yesterday and my camera i got was the eos 10d. the lens i have for it now is a 22-55mm i think. i brought it to take pictures of bmx action sport and i was just wondering what kind of lens would be a good lens for action and to really get close up from some distance.
@nishi7cool It depends on what you are after. Experiment with a few lenses, borrow a friend's and go play with some lenses in-store. It also depends on your shooting style. Cheers, the Canon team.
question... u recomended the 17-80 for everyday.. and the 17-40 for landspace.. wont they both work for landscape.. and the 17-80 would even give u a wider range or oppruitinites since it can do landscape and zoom in
@PISTACHO305 Hey there, thanks for your question. Do check our website out for more details: canon.com.au/en-AU/For-You/Camera-Lenses/EF-S55-250mm-f45-6-IS-II-Lens Cheers, the Canon team.
@cliooz55 Of course you have some non L versions :) the 50mm are very good and are possibly your cheapest option (either the 1.8 or 1.4). If you can't manage to get a 24mm f/1.4, you can opt for a 24mm f/2.8.. And you always have the option of third party lenses
Hi, as a current owner of a Canon T3 Rebel/1100D with a 18-55 mm IS kit lense, I would like to know whether all or most of the Canon lenses will be compatible with this camera.
If I could take 2-3 lenses on a Kenya/Tanzania overland safari for my Canon 500D what would you recommend? Im only a lightweight so it is a consideration.
@jrhineberger at what size of sensor? full frame or bigger like the new leicas .... also how perfect must be the lens for a 40mpx snesor? do you have some mtf charts?
@bumblebee561 an L lens( ones with the red ring around them) are usually the top of the line lenses with better glass and features, rather than a lower range lens that may not give as sharp results, another thing to keep in mind is the aperture, a lense with an aperture of f2.6 might cost more than a lens of the same zoom length with an aperture of f4, this information may not be 100% accurate, but its just from what ive noticed with past experience :)
@TuckzProductions Hi there, the "movie look" is down to the framerate that you use (e.g. 24fps). If you are considering going professional, it might be worth investing in L lenses. Check the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM out: canon.com.au/For-You/Camera-Lenses/EF24-70mm-f28L-II-USM Let us know how you go. Cheers, the Canon team.
Im looking to get the CANON EF 70-200 F4 L IS ZOOM LENS but i was wondering why do other lenses CANON EF 75-300MM/4-5.6 USM II/III AF have more zoom capability but are WAY cheaper, would it be better to get the CANON EF 75-300MM/4-5.6 USM II/III AF instead?

hi guys, i found this five star 1:8 f 500mm telephoto lens. can i use this in a DSLR? like 600D or 550D. or is there any adapter that i can buy so that i can make fit? thanks...
I have the 450d body. i had the same question, from my research i found that the best recommended prime lens is the 50mm f/1.4 . I know its equivalent to 80mm, but listen to me, get it and step back further !! ;D
Do you have similar video for best video lenses. Can you let me know which would be better for video 24-105 USM II vs 24-105 STM. How much loud is the autofocus and IS noise in 24-105 USM II
@Deekaytm 18-200 is less sharp than the kit lens but is a good walk arrownd lens, take into account that the optimal resolution for that lens is 6mpx maybe 8 but at 12 you see that the lens is less sharp than the sensor!. (like taking a picture with a 24 mpx sensor trough a cheap window ... ) I rather have the kit lens plus the 55-250 ... or if you have a 12mpx + camera I would star saving for L lenses.
I wondering about what kind of lens i should buy my frinds told me the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer Telephoto Zoom but i dont know what the diference between the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer Telephoto Zoom and the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom can somebody help me!

@nishi7cool Something with a wide aperture such as a 24mm f/1.4, a 50 f/1.4 OR 1.8, usually primes are perfect, but if you like zoom, I'd go with a 16-35mm f/2.8 or a 24-70mm f/2.8 :)
@fritspas Thanks for this. Please visit our website at canon.com.au/en-AU/For-You/Camera-Lenses and take a look. Feel free to ask us any questions you might have. Many thanks, the Canon team.

In general, look for lenses with a lower f-stop number, f/1.8, f/1.4 and f/1.2 will give you room to move for higher quality depth-of-field.
so then by 'higher quality' you must mean 'reduced' depth of field, since larger aperture reduces dof. i can't get over that canon is putting out such jibberish.
@voyagebeyond Hey there, what EOS body do you have? Cheers, the Canon team.
Thanks a lot. Gave me some better insight on what to choose.
@Klshnikov Depending on your dSLR body, wide-angle shots (e.g. landscape) to portrait shots. Let your creativity guide you. Cheers
@ZachsVlog You might be looking at macro lens. Take a look at our website: Canon.com.au. Cheers
I like using standard zoom as they give me range of options and not changing, the 18-200mm is a great option for me.
@28acnaib Hi there, you will see that both lenses are great for someone starting out with DSLR photography. If you can, get your hands on both! Cheers, the Canon team.

15-135mm lens for Canon 500d is it good enough and comes in which category?
@alaa13666 EF-s and EF lenses...you can only use the 17-85 for EF-S mount cameras..the xxD and xxxD cameras...and 17-40 can be used on all cameras...both cropped and uncropped sensors.

Rebel cameras usually come with a 18-55mm kit lens, at 18mm it's a nice wide lens for a starting photographer.

i want to ask,is it a good idea to buy a everyday camera lens and to take 2 pictures, then to merge them into 1 panorama?

@knownameful actually pentax is the one who gives more power to the buck. They still make lenses and some are actually quite good even for a pro
I have the 450d body.

Wow, very simply explained.
well I have 18-55 IS II 50mm 1.8 55-250 IS II and a 0.45x wide angle adapter with macro so I think I have enough for now
@Jonnyriffic get the 18 - 200mm lens, way better variety range.
Very informative. :) thanks for the info.

Exactly.
Hi.. I want to Buy a telephoto lens for my Canon 550D
I am thinking of buying 70-300mm. My main purpose is Wildlife photography like BIRDS, etc..
But the other condition is that my budget is pretty low so I want the cheapest one. I saw that 70-300mm lens has different costs and i dont want to go for Tamron
Please Suggest the cheapest and best quality Telephoto
what category EF 75-300 lenses..?
@nishi7cool Something with a wide aperture such as a 24mm f/1.4, a 50 f/1.4 OR 1.8, usually primes are perfect, but if you like zoom, I'd go with a 16-35mm f/2.8 or a 24-70mm f/2.8 :)
@Jonnyriffic Not at it's exteremes like 18mm and 55mm. there is an extreme fall in image quality I find.
@mayhimsh If you are looking for distance look for 70-300l
@GOPSsSTOP The canon f1.8 50mm would be great! Plus it very cheap (150$)..
@T3hTroll Here you go: ruclips.net/video/_-jJk_i_dLc/видео.html Cheers, the Canon team.
