I don’t have any tricks for melodies (maybe I should have) but I know the feelings of the scales and modes well so I choose a scale and/or mode based on my mood and after writing down some chords the main melody kinda writes itself. 😀
When making melodies, I often find myself humming a note while I frantically click around on the piano roll trying to find that note before I forget the melody. XD
@@AkaraEtteh This. I used to be very uncomfortable recording my own voice and listening to it, but this is arguably the most useful advice for anyone who wants to make music (Especially if you don't play an instrument like me)
Here's something I realized about making melodies... Use chords! You don't have to keep them, just use them. Why? because the way I see it, they're like training wheels. You use a couple of simple chords and there's a lot of empty spaces in between each chord... Because of this, your brain wants to feel up those empty spaces. Even in song writing I kind of noticed it works as well. Chords leave so much breathing room for an extra melody or 2. Good luck and keep creating!
Nothing is going to INSTANTLY make you produce better melodies. Just learn about music and practice... Everybody just tries to make music once and then gets frustrated that it doesn't sound good. You have to put in work, there's no shortcuts in any aspect of this, or any aspect of life for that matter. Learn by doing, people.
Than stop making music and try painting of skateboarding. Do something what you're talented at. Stop waisting your time. This sounds like what i had to practice after my 3th piano lesson. Listen to some good jazz or Frank Zappa. If you want to know what unpredictable is. This is what every 5 year old kid can come up with. I hope in the future This awsome guy goes a bit more in depth whit this melody theory.
@@danieldewindt3919 hey, if every 5 year old kid can come up with something like this, i think our friend should as well right? also you should take into account that EDM is not really about making melodies too complex, making its genres accessible to produce for even the least musically gifted people. there's no need for jonas to go much in depth with the melody theory imo

Being a pianist I always play my chords and melodies. But man, that little pitch bend trick is awesome! Subtle, but so effective. Using the physical pitch wheel on a keyboard is so hard get anything useful unless I'm doing something wild or drastic.
Most of my melodies are made simply by listening to the song and "hearing" it in my head as the track plays. Sometimes it's just the resonant sound of the pads or chords playing and then I accentuate those notes with a different instrument. Seems to work anyway.
