    As long as you dont change your gear ratio, the rpm will always result in the same speed. The bike might rev up a bit faster or a bit higher, but motor rpm and speed are fixed by your gear ratio!

    • @On2Feet
      @On2Feet  3 года назад +26

      Yeah. I realized this after I made the video and noted it in some of the other comments. What I was really doing was an full throttle max speed test. Before the upgrade, 6000 rpm was as high as the bike would physically go..and hence the 72 mph. Afterward, I was getting more like 6200-6300...which would explain the 74-75 mph. Sorry for the confusion.

    I'm picking up a Rock Red 2021 model with 7000Kms on Tuesday and I'm very excited to get riding. I may well ride for a while before doing any mods, but the Iridium plug definitely seems to be a good starting point. Great video again!

    Good info. Engines are air pumps and the more air you can pass through it the better the performance. I had a ninja using Vance and Hines velocity stack filters. Open with no box. The performance was great but the downside was no back pressure meant that I was adjusting high speed needle valve with changes in temperature.

  • @chrisbanner3013

    Thanks for the informative video. I just changed filter and snorkel to DNA components. My bike now seems much more eager to accelerate.

    • @On2Feet
      @On2Feet  3 года назад +1

      fantastic! One side effect of these mods that I noticed fairly quickly is that the open snorkel makes the bike run much louder (as it's not as muffled by the standard snorkel now). Not sure if you'll experience the same...but just something to note.

    • @chrisbanner3013

      @@On2Feet The additional noise is well worth the improved acceleration. I don't regret the change.

  • @skaraborgcraft
    @skaraborgcraft 3 года назад +9

    I can understand that the bike might accelerate faster and might be able to achieve a higher top speed if it can not already red line, BUT, 6000rpm on the same gearing is still 6000rpm on the same gearing, logically, it can not be any faster at the same rpm, but COULD be quicker to reach 6000 rpm. My favourite colour scheme for that bike!

    • @paulrendell8797
      @paulrendell8797 3 года назад +1

      Agreed. If you don't change the gearing, it's not going to go any faster. It is well worth trying to get more air into this engine though, well more cool air at least. The big problem with the Himalayan is the airbox is pretty close to the engine. With the engine being air cooled, on a hot day all that warm air is going straight round the engine and into the airbox. I've noticed on mine, now that the weather is cooling off (UK) the engine runs a lot better. It picks up better, feels crisper and accelerates better. I've seen people who have fitted these DNA filters also drill holes in the side panel in an attempt to suck more cool air into the airbox. Also blanking off the air coming around the engine with something to stop the warm air getting to the airbox. With an engine that makes so little power to start with, any improvement no matter how small makes a big difference to the feel of the engine.

    • @skaraborgcraft
      @skaraborgcraft 3 года назад

      @@paulrendell8797 For sure, cold air is denser, and why inter coolers are effective. Its a tricky one for manufacturers to get right these days due to emissions, but i do recall the time when Kawasaki had issues with carb-icing, even with an ice box behind the engine.

    • @On2Feet
      @On2Feet  3 года назад +3

      Yeah, I suspect I was actually going a little over 6000 rpm during the 2nd test. The key is though, I physically couldn't go over 6000 rpm before the upgrade. Fully open throttle the bike maxed out at 6000. With the new air filter and inlet cover, it probably got up to 6200. Like I said, not super scientific...but I still think worth the cost. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    That rear facing inlet is there for a very good purpose.The performance air filter gives you more air flow than the bike can use with the stock cam it's to lean to start.High performance filter and exhaust can even make the bike dangerously lean.The cam is what you need first.But keep the snorkel it keeps rain water splash and larger particles out of your filter.Just the filter upgrade gives more air intake capability than the bike will demand even with air exhaust and cam.

    • @On2Feet
      @On2Feet  2 года назад

      @deltabluesdavidraye 2 года назад

      @@On2Feet I am loving the cam that is what should be done first off.Putting a good freeflow filter and exhaust without booster plug may even cause engine damage from excessively lean mixture.The cam first with the booster plug is best then add filter and exhaust if needed.You notice each improvement after that cam which gives a large and obvious improvement.

    Hitchcock's in England has Powertronic units for both the big bore kit Himalayan, and the stock 411cc bikes, so yes, they're available for both.

    • @On2Feet
      @On2Feet  3 года назад

      Yeah I saw that they have those, but the issue is a bit more complicated as the 2021 European model may not be the same as the North American Model. On the 2021 NA model, all sensors are now monitored, which is why I couldn't even unplug the secondary air injection system without it tripping a check engine light. I initially went to buy a "booster" plug and they have a full explanation regarding why it will no longer work on NA models...see here: www.boosterplug.com/shop/cms-2021_and_newer_bikes.html . The Powertronic "Might" work on NA models, but I suspect just like with the booster plug, it will probably trip a check engine light. Still, I might email Hitchcocks and ask if they know for sure. I'd hate to spend 300 bucks and have it not work. I am a huge supporter of hitchcocks and buy a lot of stuff from them, so will definitely see.

      I actually ended up putting the original inlet cover back on mostly because the open cover was just so dang loud. I really didn't like the idea of it being wide open either. I probably lost some of the benefits of having the open cover, but I'm not that worried about it.

    I ended up putting the stock cover back on and that smoothed the bike out considerably . On my Euro 5 Himalayan at 100 ks the mirrors were vibrating that much they were almost useless however with the DNA filter in and stock cover the smoothness returned and now I can tell the make and model of the car behind.
    I also hated the sound and it makes with the DNA filter fitted, and my milage has improved as bit. I got a check engine light a couple of times as well .. tho that may not be related.
    Try fitting the stock cover back on and see if you notice any improvements in smoothness and economy.

    I watched this with some interest. I’ve owned a couple of Harleys. They both benefited from a “Stage One”. They didn’t get a lot more power but they did run better. A stage one involves freeing up the exhaust and the intake then remapping the EFI. This process and the kits have been around a long time for Harleys, not so for the Himalayan. With this mod you have done and one of the many exhaust pipes available the only thing missing is the EFI remapping. As far as I know there are limited options for the Himalayan. Yeah...I actually ended up putting the original snorkel back on because it was just so darn loud with the open airbox. It still runs better than with the factory filter.

      I suppose it's possible. Since making this vide, I actually went back to the original snorkel because the open cover was just so dang loud. I still have the upgraded filter in though.

    If you drill some hole in the middle of the cup manifold you get the same result, money 0...

    All speed tests should be done in still air. When you exclaimed "77!", you were in the *draft* of a motor home.

      Was what i was going to say. Ive been behind a sprinter van and my 125 feels like a 250, it makes so much difference with slipstream on these lower powered bikes.

    Helpful for me too, I have the same bike (color/year) and had been considering this modification. Have you seen TEC's video about their experiments with airflow with this installed? They have made some modifications to block air from in front of the intake and encourage airflow from below - seems like something that's simple enough to do, and I'll likely experiment with it when I make this upgrade. Thanks for the review! Here is a link to the TEC video in case you haven't seen it. ruclips.net/video/wW3w5cvIehA/видео.html

      I did see this and it does make me wonder about not having the directional snorkel anymore and warm air getting in. It is also noticeably louder now too. I may have to engineer a small directional air diverter

      Also check out TEC Bike Parts replacement cams. They have a couple of videos on it.

    Pure nonsense at 6000 rpm the bike will have the same speed as gearing has not changed. If the rpm go higer then you may be right.

      Yeah I definitely talked about this in some of the comments. Short answer is yes, 6000 is 6000. In the case of this test it was really more about testing what the top speed achievable was. With the oem filter, I physically could not go over 6000, but with the upgrades it actually went up to about 6200 before maxing out. So yeah I should have as be clarified. Sorry about that.
