    Saving money for my 1st bike. Decided to go with the Himalayan for the price and overall features. I was originally going to go with the Honda CRF300L Rally, but after a careful review, I find the Himalayan to be a much more capable bike. Hopefully, I will get to start that journey this next spring.

    Thanks for doing this. I’m on a little adventure with my Himalayan. I call this the ghosts of the coal branch tour. I’m in the eastern slopes of the Rockies exploring ghost towns. Yesterday it started to rain. I did about 160 km on muddy dirt roads. Today it was raining harder in the couple of hours I was on the bike I got soaked so I’m hold up in a motel watching your video. It sounds like we have similar backgrounds although I’m much older. For 14 years I taught outdoor education at a private school so I did a lot of backpacking and mountaineering with the kids. Now I don’t camp anymore I use motels.

      Gerald...enjoy your adventure! I spent about 10 days playing around in the San Juans on my Himalayan, and had an absolute blast (also staying in many motel rooms!...although I did camp a few times). You are correct, I have a lot of experience with long-distance backpacking....but teach geoscience and climate science related content to grad students at a University now.

    This video has become a “grocery list” of sorts for me ever since :)
    Much appreciated!
    Question: does your aftermarket windshield solve the issue where the Himmy-specific barkbuster bar would hit the dash when locking the handlebars, or did you also add a riser for that?
    Would love to hear how you solved that.

  • @michealgillman7418
    @michealgillman7418 Год назад

    Have you considered any mods to up the bhp, as 24 is a bit low. There's a company here in the UK called "tech bike" and they do a replacement camshaft which combined with a mufler and airfilter change give a 20% increase in power and improves running and fuel consumption! It's quiet an easy job to, their are videos on RUclips 👌

    • @On2Feet
      @On2Feet  Год назад +1

      Yeah, I've looked into the TEC cam and big bore kits, but honestly, I'm just not that into the idea of spending that kind of money to so fundamentally change the bike. I think I'd rather just get a different bike at that point. I've watched a few videos of people that have done these upgrades, and the return is not that great either. I'm perfectly content to just putt along as is for now.

    • @On2Feet
      @On2Feet  3 года назад +1

      I didn't do anything special for the USB plug. I simply took the gas tank off and ran the cable down the center of the bike to the battery with the other electrical cables (I had to clip and redo a few zip ties). I mounted my USB charger under the handlebars, but it could honestly go just about anywhere up front. Personal preference really.

      It's funny you mention the headlight. I ended up swapping it back out as that particularly model gave me lots of problems, and honestly was just quite cheaply made. I posted a video about it. Just search for the "Relay upgrade" video. Instead, I upgraded the bulb to a very-high output halogen and have been content with it. Plus, it's easier to replace should it burn out.

    • @On2Feet
      @On2Feet  3 года назад

      You know, it's always so hard to tell if a change like this truthfully makes a significant difference or not. I guess what I'd say anecdotally is that since upgrading the plug, adjusting the Throttle position sensor, replacing the relays, and upgrading the air filter....my bike has been running smoothly, consistently, and reliably. I have had not hiccups, stalls, breakdowns, or other running problems (knock on wood!).

      @@Bob-oo7sm Best way to describe it is that it's just different. The Halogen is much more diffuse with a larger spread, but the LED is brighter and more intense where it's needed. I took a recent trip to Colorado and had to ride for a couple hours along a VERY dark mountain road. the LED was more than sufficient and in my opinion better than the halogen. I did have to point the headlight housing downward a bit to direct the beam better. Regarding the Barkbuster,they are pretty expensive ,,you can pick up Chinese knockoffs for at cheap money and they are just as good.. I also added adjustable levers,,, I was not happy with the fork action,,so fitted the YSS fork kit,,,and yeah the fork action is much softer now... Looking at your bike I think the panniers are too wide and the gap beween to pannier and the frame looks huge ( I hate knocking my knees on the box when getting on) so I went for the Lomo soft pannier and they are cheap.. Next thing I got is a chain oiler but yet to fit,also looking at a chain tensioner .They are cheap so may get one just to see if it works on the bike... You really do not need to drop a hole load of cash on this bike to make it fit for the job,,but maybe I,m just a cheap bastard!!!!
