- A look at an unseen Alpha version of HITMAN 2016. In part 4, we look at VERY early builds of Colorado and Hokkaido. Colorado is completely different compared to the final version, this is probably the most interesting part regarding this Alpha build.

That Colorado map makes way more sense for a 4-target mission. Everybody felt the final one was kinda underfleshed regarding the possibilities for most targets, but a huge-ass facility repurposed as a militia site would probably offer enough fun and variety for the players.
Also, Alpha Hokkaido looks like Hitman meets The Witness.
yeah thats definitely an early Colorado. it looks closer to the early concept art than the final verison. thanks for showing all this stuff
You can see how a lot of this version of Colorado made its way into Mumbai. Verticality of Rose's location and Rangan's Tower,, and the the train tracks/yards of Vanya Shah.
Well, in the Game Lore, Maya Pavarti worked with the Mumbai Trio, it's cool to see how the Devs reused the original context of the level into something related to the original targets
In Hokkaido, Soders is on the same level as the Helipad. KAI is a floor up from there, just like this version had a floor up (which you called the roof). They basically just cut out the entire lowest level, of both the hospital and the patient areas, and added the spa area to make up for it
Yeah I see what you mean. Was pretty overwhelming first playing it, plus I'm awful at talking and playing. But it seems you're correct regarding the layout.
The spa and gym area is actually in the map, he didn't get to show it
Wrong, they just moved the Alpha first floor into the basement.
That looks so much more fun than the final Colorado
Colorado 1 was sadly entirely scrapped probably due to the lack of time for its development, but it would've been very unique and even more interesting than the current Colorado version, besides we have very few information about this map, only a tiny amount of concept arts and ideas
Yeah that was my theory that I mentioned in this video. Seemed very ambitious and it already seemed behind development compared to the other 6 maps at this stage.
Yeah, Marrakesh had also a bit more elements to it, much more actions going on, the consulate was also supposed to be an embassy instead
Paris potentially would've had a playable outside area
Sapienza would've had some more actions + a secondary villa that was scrapped very early on
It's very interesting to see what IO had planned ever since 2013, sadly we don't have that much for Season 2, even though most concepts are concentrated on Columbia and Isle of Sgail
now this looks like a map suitable for 4 targets...nice vid!
I seem to remember reading that Colorado was developed by whatever external team was helping them with the first game. Maybe this version was IO's original design and the other team opted to make an easier to develop design instead?
square enix?
Alpha Colorado gave me Berlin vibes
and Mendoza
Level design reminds me of Dexter Industries from Absolution.
I found some HITMAN 2016 concepts arts with concepts of all six levels in ArtStation, the Colorado section shows some arts of a map very similar to this one in the video, even the description says that an industrial facility was the fisrt design for Colorado. Idk why they change the level to the apricot farm but it was something very suddent, because they already had the concepts for it, an not polished map in the game's alpha and probably the four targets and its kills, judging by the layout of the map. It would take more time than expected to finish a map like this so IO or Sumo decided to make a smaller map so they can release at time. I don't think it was too ambitious for the developers cause Marrakesh and Sapienza have a very complex layout too, so probably it was for staying on track for the releases and not delaying anything.
I almost wonder if some of the Moscow stage in 3 was from ideas in this
I see ALOT of Berlin and ALOT of Mendoza in this. I have a feeling people wanted to use some of the ideas they created for this
I'm guessing this was the plan for Colorado originally by IO, but then at some point they outsourced it to Sumo Digital. Then the current Colorado was designed to be simpler for a smaller team who weren't as familiar with the dev tools.
I'm hoping we get something of this scale for the James Bond game IOI is making s
Honestly wouldve been cooler to have this big industrial conplex thing. It's provide more kills for the 4 targets, a lack of options is what makes people dislike Colorado so much. Could've been one of the best levels tbh
Woah how did you get this
Io making Colorado be like:
Apricots > awesome facility
They Handled Colorado to another company, this was IO Beautiful concept
But the other Small devs thought it would be better to make a farm instead
what colorado should have been
Very cool, do you know when this build of the game is from?
This would have been a way better colorado 😢
Also makes much more sense for 4 targets
Very nice
So I was right assuming the "Oh Snap" bubble in Mendoza was comment
Also gotta love the budget WinForms app to select maps, using .NET Framework based on the icon, also makes sense since .NET 5.0 didn't exist back then and WinForms support was only added to Core last year
Edit: I played around with it and my apologies. I thought the level selection app came with the build sp thought it was funny to see coming from a studio like IOI, but on second glance it looks like you were the one to make it, in that case it's a pretty good homebrew. I actually have some ideas on how it could be improved mainly in the user friendliness department if you are interested.
It was probably WinForms, yeah, but it's worth noting that WinForms itself is basically just a thin wrapper around the Win32 control library- as such, it and WinForms would be visually identical.
Agile development in games is never gonna work. We all knew that Colorado was lacking in every way. Colorado 1 was way too ambitious for io to develop and they reduced it to something so compact yet dense which I never really liked. Hokkaido also felt a little bit off even though it's my favorite map out of every map in the trilogy.
Allan! you didn't finish your level
nice
Allan didn't add details :(
Colorado but good
Colorado would've been way better if IOI had stayed with the prototype.
That version of Colorado would had been so much better.
i like the final version why?
Will you show us Bangkok?
Previous video :)
@@TJGM oh my bad lol. Thanks for the content it's really interesting!
Imagine having to hunt down targets in a roblox map xD
Some of Hokkaido seems bigger, would've preferred that. Made it more realistic
is this the reason to have around 70 GB download game ?
no, this is an alpha build from ~2014-2015. speaking of 70 gb, hitman 1 and hitman 2 used to take up around 100 gb by EACH GAME. so complaining that they've now achieved a technology that compresses the size of the ENTIRE TRILOGY into 70 gb is silly
Idk it looks more like a dev map for testing stuff
Could be. But Hokkaido and Bangkok were already designed at this point, so it's weird that Colorado would be the testing map. Plus like I said in the video, various areas are named after Colorado areas.
@@TJGM I don't have answers but I do know that Colorado was developed at a different studio. I'd have to know more about when this build is from but it's possible that the co-dev studio was working on a later schedule (the studio is Sumo Digital btw, i worked there for a while)
@@zerofiftyone_alt Really? Interesting. Did you work there at all during the development on HITMAN?
@@TJGM I was never on the hitman projects but worked there during the tail end of 1 and throughout the dev cycle of 2 (Sumo also worked on columbia and isle of sgail iirc)
