I was born in "74". Saw Dennis live a few years back at "Family convetion center in St.Charles, Mo". Best concert ive ever witness. And ive seen pop, heavy metal, rap, country, opera, symphony's,etc. Still Dennis was the best over all.
Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, Davenport, Iowa. 1978 My first concert was their Grand Illusion tour as a birthday gift from my older sister. I turned 12 the month before. I think taking me was an excuse so my sister could go but I have definitely been a Styx fan since. Thank you for being part of what I think is truly timeless music era that is just as enjoyable today as it was the first time I heard it. Stay safe all
One of the best bands of all time. A classic! The first time I listened to Styx in 1982, I love their music. For example, Babe and On Desert Moon by Dennis DeYoung.
It makes me sad to see any band that I like where the original guys are no longer together but with Styx, i grew up with them and loved then so much. It just hurts.
Never say never. However, Dennis's ego is as high as the moon. Thinks too highly of himself. He was a bully and treated them very bad. He had a very bad temper. However, he is very talented musician songwriter and a legendary singer. I won't take that away from him.
@@clamshell6863 Thanks for that info. I was not aware of that with Dennis. I know he was really into the theatrical stuff that some of the others in the band were not into. I'm sure there are a lot of things that the fans don't know that only the members of the band do.
I would like to thank my uncle, who was 7 yrs older than me. He introduced me to all the rock bands of the 70's. He had his cool Pioneer stereo.. headphones, big speakers.. Styx was one of the bands, along with many others..thank you, Uncle Duffy for exposing me to rock!
Ha, I remember when JY declared that Styx were more popular than the Beatles. He caught hell for that, but it was really a play on the famous quote by Lennon, "The Beatles are more popular than Jesus."
I have been hooked on Styx since the mid 70's - and saw the Grand Illusion Tour at the Mississippi Valley Fair, 1978 ?? I"m getting old, don't remember when it was... GREAT music. nothing like it any more.

In a perfect world, they would all be playing together. I still love them all and am sad for their differences. Next month we will be seeing Styx again and I am super excited! Always a fan.
fun to revisit this. Their harmonies are second to none! They all can still sing the crap out of these songs. How beautiful it would be for them to do t together again. Oh well maybe some day! For now they still put on a great show!
Great songs and equally great harmonies. These song wil be listened to for another 100 years. Love to see them in Concert. Grew up listening to them and what amazing memories come back when I hear styx.

hi all to those who LOVE Styx !! I have been a fan since1975 and i still love every song i hear today. I'm glad there are a new generation out there loving it too esp. since almost all were not born for a long time when the songs were released. How many groups today could do something like this..a rock group sans bass, drum and synthesizer. Vocal harmony with piano lead. Saw them in Lakeland, FL in the late 70s, "Great White Hope" tour. With the Panozzo brothers.
man what a treat it would've been to be there. what i wouldn't give to be born 30 years earlier just to be there and experience everything leading up to stuff like this. styx's best lineup all together live for the one of the last times. that's not saying i don't appreciate what i grew up with anyways. i don't know what my point is. i just really like styx, i heard a lot of their songs growing up,
Happier times for the core trio right before their amazing drummer, John Panozzo died from you guessed it… alcohol-related issues. Not sure why so many rock drummers tragically drank so much. I finally saw them live at AWA here in Phoenix with Pat Benatar (who rocked) in 1999. Fantastic memorable show! I can’t imagine seeing them without Dennis. Love Styx ❤️🔥

@James You are 100% correct. I did see them during the Kilroy tour at the Carolina Colleseum in Columbia, South Carolina, back in the summer of 1983. Had no idea that by 1984, they would stop for almost 10 yrs not playing together ( Styx did return with Glenn Burtnik/Shaw was with Damn Yankees by 1990). The 3 singers would put out solo albums. There was a big void in music 🎶 when they were out and apart till 1995.
I disagree. I've seen them twice with the current lineup and just a month ago was the most recent time. They sound like Styx and Dennis's band also sounds like Styx.
This is a perfect band. They all look great, their music is so aesthetic, and you can hear them! Just saw them in 2022 and they still sound so damn good. Too bad Dennis isn't with them anymore.
Got to meet Dennis and his wife with meet and greet in Atlantic City very classy people he signed my ticket from Styx and Foreigner show from years ago the man still has a voice that is incredible
In order of how the band as we knew them best came together, it was: Chuck Panozzo (bass) John Panozzo (drums) Dennis DeYoung (vocals, accordion, piano, organ, synthesizer) James "J. Y." Young (guitar, vocals, keyboards) Tommy Shaw (guitar, vocals, 12-string guitar, mandolin, keyboards) And, according to Tommy, he claimed the band didn't really get along even in their heyday, and I think 1983's _Kilroy was Here_ was the last straw for him!
Well that seems to be incorrect, as the band is together, touring, and came out with a new album recently. The problem is creative differences. Dennis DeYoung wants to push the band to do Broadway style musicals, why the rest of the band wants to stay rock. That is why DeYoung is not in the band.
JY and Tommy think they created Styx. Could they tour "as the music of Styx" and survive? Come on, love him or not, DeYoung is, was and shall ever be the heart and soul of Styx. I would think JY would be the hardest of the members to be around-- a mediocre guitar player who took advantage of an opportunity to "move forward" as a touring act after their best days were behind them because for whatever reason he thinks he is an "equal" to Dennis. Pretentious douche mongrel-- I think you got the wrong member, Wizzle. That's JY.
