Brompton Schwalbe One Long Term Review

- Опубликовано: 14 мар 2020
- We installed these tyres about 7 months ago, and have used them to ride about 600km - so we thought it was time to let people know how they got on
We also kept them on all winter - normally we would change to Marathon Plus - for the extra puncture protection
How did they do? Better than we expected, a lot better!
And if you want to see just how easy it is to install - check out this video:
• Brompton Schwalbe One ... - Спорт
Great video. Happy to see a new one from you with excellent information.
More to come! Andy - we're trying to get back into the swing ... but we had a few technical issues
Keep checking back
Thanks again for watching
Marathon plus on my husbands bike. Rear wheel tends to get clogged up with mud (mudguards fitted). Blooming hard to fit on the wheel would not like a flat when out for a ride. Hope you are well in these strange times. Keep up the good work!!! xx
Another addition to the BRILLIANT Pantheon... yes, must corner another of those ‘in case’ and yes - they do look cracking on the raw lacquer!
I have recently added some of the Brooks slim handgrips to mine and am pretty pleased with those, but they still look a bit sparkly new so I will have to get some miles/character on them before I decide if I love them, or just quite like them!
They complement the orange colour Brompton too! Gliding smoothly. After changing, I swear I will never back to the old black one.
So I watch many puppy videos on RUclips just for fun. I think your videos would be the only alternative I would watch just for fun AND educational purposes! Thank you for making those videos which have saved lots of time and ££££ for me! Ride safe
Thank you so much for watching and for your comments.
Really pleased you find them useful and funny, we enjoy making them, especially when we get comments like yours.
Ps love kittens too!
Love your videos. It's like having a free online course on bike repair.
Thank you! And thank you for watching!
Hey! Nice! I have these on my raw lacquered titanium Brommy also. Love the look. And yes. I’ve had a couple flats on the front tire. They’re very grippy and very pretty. More expensive and sometimes hard to find. Oh. And I like your Fashion foreword matching orange helmet and shoe laces. Cheers!
Thank you so much for watching! I know I try to match when I can, it’s like shoes and a handbag, laces and a helmet.
Excellent video as usual.
I've also been thinking about changing my grips. I know that you like and stock Ergon and it would be a useful video to compare the various models in the range. As someone else has pointed out, the fold is an issue as well.
Thank you for watching again. Great suggestion, we will do this very soon!
Another fun video! As far as grips are concerned, would some nice ones from the Ergon range suit? I have been very pleased with GP3 on my mountain bike, but the “3” is probably too big for the Brompton fold.
Changed the standard grips for Ergon GP2 (small) on my M2L (2018 UK). Some surgery required (had to take 5/8" off each one).
Doesn't affect the fold. Totally transforms the handling and ride (imho).
Thank you for watching and for your comment. Thanks for the recommendation, I hope as I have post 2017 bars I should not have to perform surgery.
Love your videos! Any chance you could do a very simple ‘this is how to adjust the brakes’ video? 🙂👍🏻
Thanks for watching
We're glad you like the videos
Yes - we will definitely make a video very soon on simple brake adjustment / setup
Take care
Another very handy video. It would be interesting to see a comparison between all the different current tyre options. What’s your preferred method of cleaning tan walls?
I have Ergon GS3 grips/bar ends on flat bars, as supplied by Brompton on my Vespertine nyc Model (circa Jan 2018). So long as the bars are the right width for the rider’s build, these allow a very comfortable position which I think approx matches my racing cycle position in feel (riding on brake hoods in the latter case most of the time, rather than on the drops). Not sure if these grips would work with other Brompton bars, but perhaps the mechanic in Covent Garden shop or Brompton could advise. They are very compact bar ends so don’t snag anything when the bike is folded when using flat bars, and don’t increase the folded width of the bike (when carrying on trains etc). I also use larger ergon grip with bar ends on my larger folding Airnimal Joey bike with flat bars and handlebar changer (to 8 speed Nexus hub). The ergon have shown no wear in either bike.
Thank you for watching and for your valuable comments. We will check these out.
Thank you for the video. Could you review the Schwalbe Big Apple on a Brompton if it’s on your itinerary please? Thank you!
Nice off-roading. 👍🏼
Thank you for watching 😀. We could not resist 😀
I have these on my CHPT3 and the ride is noticeably more comfortable than on the Marathon+ I have fitted to my other Brommie.
I have aftermarket mudguards as supplied by the lovely people at Brommiemods and can confirm that the Schwalbe Ones fit comfortably.
I've been faffing around with various grips on my other Brommie ( M bars ) Started with the Ergon GP1 Biokork which I had to trim down to fit the M bars, then I fitted a replacement wider M bar by Joseph Kuosak ao I could fit standard 130mm grips and went with the Ergon GP2 which are excellent, the stubby ends let you alter your hand position to help avoid fatigue. ( I had to trim the Kuosac bars otherwise the GP2 would hit the ground when folding )
The Kuosac bars can be trimmed asymmetricaly, and I've trimmed the left hand one a tad more than the right so it folds OK ( just)
Then I fitted Ergon GA3 as they were Orange to match my Bike. They are very good at damping vibration but the Orange colour and rubbery material means that they constantly look grubby.
I've still got the ( shortened to fit the original bars ) Biokork, I like the look of them so I'll either refit them or perhaps splash out on a new pair that haven't been cut down.
Thank you for watching and for your comments. It seems like Ergon are most people’s favourite. I am lucky as I have 2017 onwards bars so won’t need to do any surgery. Are the biocork really that comfortable?
@@brilliantbikes
More comfortable than stock, the shape of the grip helps as they're more ergonomic and of course I like the look of them.
Having said that, the GA3 material being a bit more "rubbery" is noticeably better at damping Road vibration.
Great video as usual❗️The second hand Brompton I purchased has the Marathon plus tires. I do find myself on unpaved trails and the gravel canal paths by my home quite often and am considering these as my next tire. Do you think they’d have a smoother ride? Plus I really like the look. Although as a truck driver I do take my Brompton with my and kinda like the security of their puncture resistance when I’m in unfamiliar places.🚚🚴🏻💨
I can just imagine that if Queen Elizabeth were demonstrating Bromptons, this is what she would act and sound like.
Anyone for cucumber sandwiches? Many thanks for watching and you comment 😀
Hello brilliantbikes and I’m sorry I don’t know your personal name but I like the short video with you explaining and showing the schwalbe front tyre of your Brompton bicycle as you’re very detailed in your speech and love the fun bloopers at the end so take care and cheerio
Thank you for watching and for your nice comment. It’s Hannah
I had Schwalbe ones on my road bike, they're very slick and I'm also looking forward to purchase a pair to replace my marathon racer (pity there's no non-tanwall version available)
There is now
On the P Line
@brilliantbikes are these quicker/lighter than Kojaks?
Can you please let us know what is the standard procedure on pump up tyres to how much psi is required.
Thank you.
you were asking about pronouncing these tyres in another video. My suggestion would be that this should be said like "shvahlbeh" (blessyou)
Thank you! Great description of how to say it! And thank you for watching!
god bless Britain, wish you and your family, colleagues good health!!
Thank you for watching - and for your kind words
Take care
Whrn to replace kojak tires?
How would you rate the Schwalbe One compared to the Schlwalbe Marathon Plus for puncture resistance?
(Sorry, tablet won't let me edit) - and for durability.
Hi,
I was lucky enough to get a CHPT3 with these tyres on. In the 2 months I've had the bike, I've had two punctures. Are you finding them to be particularly puncture prone?
Yes they are the most puncture prone, good video here ruclips.net/video/p1i1W6xy8hM/видео.html
The best thing to do is slime at least the back tube. I did this on mine and have only had one puncture on the FRONT wheel in 13 months.
Can you use the same inner tube as the marathons? (Standard marathons)
Thanks for watching
Yes - you can use the same inner tubes
@@brilliantbikes Thank you!
Can you show us how a build 6 speed brompton from scratch? most bike shops are still not taking many customers due to corona virus. And I stupidly bought all the parts to build a brompton lol, but there's no tutorials online :'(
Thanks for the question
It’s a tough one - frame parts are only supposed to be supplied when fitted by a Brompton dealer
One way is to buy / borrow a 2nd Brompton and use it to copy from
It’s not too difficult - at least compared to a full suspension mountain bike !
I would start by attaching the rear triangle to the rear of main frame and the headset / stem / forks to the front
Then it’s just adding all the other components one by one
How do you clean the tan walls? I have black marks that I can't seem to get out.
Many thanks for the question. We have cleaned them using the Muc-off spray cleaner and scrubbed with a brush.
Thank you for watching!
@@brilliantbikes appreciate the response. I’m going to buy some! Love your channel BTW.
Hi what saddle is that? Is it a fabric one?
Oh sorry forgot Ergon GP3 on a 2019 S bar black black edition!
What noise is that? When she's pedaling... 00:02
They look great but I’ve had two of front my tyres tear near the beading :( first one was close to 100psi but managed over 1000km on it. Second tore within a month and I had it pumped to 80psi..
Yes they are the most puncture prone tires ruclips.net/video/p1i1W6xy8hM/видео.html
