Brompton Saddle Height Insert installation and use

- The Brompton Saddle Height Insert is cleverly designed to make sure your saddle / seatpost always goes to your perfect height when you unfold the bike
This video simply shows how to install the saddle height insert
The tools required are:
5mm allen key / hex wrench
Marker pen
Scissors
The saddle height insert has come with all Brompton folding bikes over the last few years - but is generally not fitted by the shop - as you need to have determined your perfect saddle ride height
This will vary depending upon the shoe and pedal combination
We actually don't recommend fitting / using this if:
You wear different shoes on different days - e.g. work versus weekend
The Brompton is shared by different riders

I’ve had a Brompton for many years but this lady gives really useful information every time she appears.
Thank you! And thank you so much for watching!
These videos are the greatest brompton sales tool imaginable. so charming.
😀. Thank you so much! And thank you for watching!
@@brilliantbikes I am in the US, just ordered a new C line 2 speed. I have learned so much from your videos -- and enjoyed the great sense of humor of course -- I will soon put to use!
I can't agree more. I finally bought my very first Brompton (an electric) and have learned so much from the videos that Hannah & the Brilliant Bikes team have produced. They're addictive viewing and just when you think you've seen them all, another one pop's up in the reccomended list. They definitely are great ambassadors for the Brompton brand and I hope that Brompton recognise the service that Brilliant bikes perform on their behalf. I wish I lived closer so that BB could be my local bike shop ❤
I am glad this vid came up as I was browsing. I just got a Brompton today and saw the plastic thing not knowing what it was for 😂
So glad it helped! Thank you for finding is and hope you enjoy your Brompton
@@brilliantbikes keep doing the videos. I have been watching them the last few months and have been helpful in helping me decide which model to get :)
Brompton should pay you for all your good service
Love the fringe 😊 thanks for sharing! 😍
I appreciate the time and effort placed in making these videos.
Thank you - it’s really kind of you to say so (and take your valuable time to do it)

Just installed the stopper, can't wait for taking my Brompton out for a lovely ride. Thanks for sharing.
Great video need one of these for my wife’s Brompton 👍🏻
Fringe looks great 💇🏻
Your videos are very helpful and informative, especially for the new owner of a C line Brompton like me!
After installed the Height Insert, I used the piece of plastic left to wrap around the handlebar stem to prevent the cables rub against the paint of the stem.
Didn't pass any beauty contest, but it worked.
Thank you so much! We are really glad they help. We often use gorilla tape to stop wear. Have you named your new Brompton yet?
Great video; both informative and amusing. Well done it is good to have a smile at this time. Much better than Brompton's own one as well.
Awesome video. Always love the blooper clips at the end.
Glad you enjoyed it Andy - thanks for continuing to watch and the kind comment
No matter how we try - we just keep going wrong!
Stay safe
Just bought my first Brompton yesterday, and already my knowledge has been enriched by your videos, splendid!
Love your fingers! Another great video. Although I will not be using that thing. Love to see an explainer on how to cut the seatpost without losing the locking mechanism on the newer bikes.
Thanks for the clarifications and the nice presentation!
I am a happy owner of a BROMPTON from 15.05.2020!
Your beautiful presentations have accelerated the decision of this purchase!
Fringe trim looks great! Love your videos. As soon as I’m back from holiday, I’m ordering some Continentals for my M6R!!
I'm new to Brompton just having bought a 2005 model. Thank you for these essential videos that are saving me hours or research. Love the style and attitude!
Thank you for making this video. I have just put mine in my new Brompton and I'm pleased I no longer have to stop and start fiddling around for the perfect height anymore. New subscriber, cheers!
Never knew such a thing existed & have had a brompton for 4yrs+. Thanks Ps fringe looks great
I love your videos - I've just bought my first Brompton and they show me everything I need to know :-)

Your videos are so informative, and you have helped in my decision to finally get a Brompton after about a year of watching. Thank you for the excellent demonstrations.
Thank you so much for watching and your kind remarks
We will continue to make them (and have fun doing so) while the are of interest
Any suggestions on useful content are gladly welcomed
The videos from Brompton Bikes are substantially more detailed and informative than any other video guides I have seen. They are also fun and amusing. Brilliant Bikes: Brilliant Videos.
Every new Brompton comes with this insert! They are in the box! If the shop members doesn't give you one just ask!!!

These instructions are very clear and to the point. Very helpful. Great work.
Thank you! And thank you for watching
I've owned a Brompton for more than a year with no idea what the saddle height, insert sliding up and down the seat post was for. Now I know! Many thanks...
Many thanks for watching! So glad it helped!
What a perfectly Charming Lady to guide one through the process 😇

I couldn't get my head around how this worked until seeing your super helpful video. Thanks so much.
Thank you so much! And thank you for watching!
Fringe and fingers both top notch 👌
These Vlogs, coupled with an owners manual and indeed my 1 year old Brompton go together perfectly. Thank you for being there for us.
Thank you so much! And thank you for watching!
Thanks for this! This makes so much more sense than the instructions in the Brompton manual
Thank you so much! And thank you for watching!
Thank You. I have a Brompton and haven't had time to find out how to make the insert function!
I love these Brompton videos the best ❤️
Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you Hannah, all fitted to my Old Yellow aka " The Flying Banana" . I think I have set it slightly low, I'll try it for a bit and cut off one more ring if I don't like it after a few miles. I don't bother with instructions for fitting any Brompton parts, these videos are much better!
Thank you so much! And thank you for watching!
This is the first of your videos I have watched. I really love your humour and laughed throughout... Even before the boopers (bloopers?) bit came on. Thankyou. I'm off to watch more of your videos
I love ALL of your explination. I am a French person and I understand everything with you. Thank you, you’re the best.
Thank you so much, really glad my English was OK.
Great vid thanks. Just got my Brompton and your explanation is soo much better than reading the manual.
Thank you so much for watching and for your nice comment!
Very useful vid! Loved the bits at the end!!
Another very informative video. Liked it. And yes you are all set for a fringe festival!
Thank you for sharing such educational videos. It helps a lot. I just got a Brompton for my wife. So it helps me to measure and cut the insert for her.
Cheers!
We are really glad it helped! Thank you for watching and for your comment. I hope your wife enjoys her new Brompton!
Very helpful. Loved the outtakes
Thank you for watching! And for watching the outages! Really glad it helped!
Very informative and I love the bloopers! 🙂
Great vlog and great bloopers
love your fringe trim
I find your videos most helpful and informative. Now I know what to do with the plastic tubie thing.
Thank you so much for watching and really glad we helped you with what to do with the saddle height insert, they are great!
Great. Couldn’t workout what this was for. Fantastic idea. Thanks. 👍
So glad it helped! It is common for people or not know what I this for!
Thank you for watching!
Great information and very entertaining. Bangs are good!
Brilliant delivery.
This is genius. I've owned a few Bromptons since the 1990s and used to have to scratch a mark on the seatpost for my desired height. I must get one of these.
They are great! So glad it bought these to your attention!
Love it!!!. I shall get my husband to fit one. (I'm hoping the lock down ends soon...my hair!! is driving me mad!!). KEEP SAFE!!!
Great videos. Most importantly - fantastic fringe!!
Having just bought my new Brompton I was at a loss as to how to use the plastic. Thanks for this Vlog. Great help...
Many thanks for watching! So glad we save you from recycling it! They are great!
Thanks for the video. Lovely fringe!
This video was extremely useful. Brompton’s instructions in the Owners manual might as well have been written in Chinese! Now I know what to do , thanks.
So glad it helped! And thank you for watching!
i just love behind the scenes..:)
Great stuff! I was not even aware of these useful items before watching this, thank you - two ordered (and already delivered!)... ✅ 👍🏻 💚
At least I now know how to fit them properly, I think... 😉 👏🏻 🤔
Good job on the fringe too... 💇🏻♀️ 🤷🏼♂️
This the next thing I need to do, thank you!!
love your fringe 🚲💛
very clear instructions.Thank you.
Thank you so much! And thank you for watching!
The procedure is described in the Brompton manual, which I just haven't had time to use till now, but this film is much more usefull! Thank You!
Thank you watching and glad you found it useful
@@brilliantbikes Without the insert I need to use the "Search and You will find" method for my Brompton ;-) and I have just ordered a new black titanium post for my Lightweight, which may not be able to use it, as it is with a built in clamp for the saddle and as such with no stop in the bottom of the post! But I will find out when I get it?
Thanks for this, it was a great help 👍🏻
Hey please make video on a handlebar extension solutions!!! I end up bending down on the p handlebar that i have and my wrists are really not liking it. Pls pls 😔 🙏 your videos are really helpful thank you for making them 💗
Nice bloopers at the end. Hehehe. Thank you for this tutorial!
We honestly dont want any - but are glad you liked them!
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment

brilliantbikes stay safe also!
Great video and great fringe trim 😁
Love the outtakes!!
BRILLIANT! I have several of these which came with the bikes, and after working out what they were I went to RUclips to look at fitting and use... unfortunately I viewed a very complicated film that looked like the piece had to be glued in, drilled out and replaced frequently and frankly looked beyond my humble mechanical abilities, so I just wing it on seat height and make adjustments if not comfortable. Well, No More! Thanks for making that look easy! A solid 9/10 on the fringe... would never have known and pretty sure there will be many home attempts around the country that won’t look a fraction as professional!
Amanda Leigh The video you watched will be the procedure for when the seatpost sleeve insert is worn and needs replacing (it is glued into the top of the seat tube and then reamed using a specialist tool). The insert in this video sits beneath that sleeve.
Platypus Hatstand - Many thanks for the elucidation, I frequently find myself wishing for a Haynes Manual for my Bromptons!
Thanks for watching again and for the high score on the fringe
The seat post insert (as opposed to the saddle height insert) is more complex - it's supposed to be one of the few "shop only" Brompton parts
To be honest we do the same as you normally - just adjust based on how it feels
LOVE your videos
Hello dearest 😊 thank you so much for your Videos 👍 it helps me so much for my Brompton bicycle. You are great 👍 and competent. Much greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 i look all you Video, because you explain very clearly 😀 and exactly the way how I make my Brompton easy-going very much. Thank you 😊 so much 💖 from Daggi 🙋♀️ see you next time on a new Video from you.
Thank you so much for your nice comment and for watching!
Every watch of your video makes me more adamant to buy a Brompton. Why you ask? Because its pleasing to watch and hear your presentation. - Singapore!

Lockdown two - could be time for return of the fringe too
Yes. I like the fringe.
Informative , entertaining and funny!
Thank you for this video Hannah, i was not sure to use that but i know what to do now. And.....very funny at the end
Thanks for watching and the feedback Amanda
We don’t mean to make mistakes (honest)
We measured our first one upside down! That’s the reason we thought it could be a good idea to share
@@brilliantbikes no, no , I'm not Amanda, it is Al, thanks anyway
Sorry AI - really sorry!
See - we mess up a lot
Great video! I just mark up the tube with a Sharpie marker...
Brompton should just put number markers on the back of the seat post like dahon does.. Simple.
Agreed, but then they wouldn’t be able to sell you something new
Agreed .
@@nuttycommuter3718They include the saddle height insert with even their cheapest model. You would only need to buy a new one if you grow or if someone else takes ownership.
Far more classy having something invisible …..
But you need to look at those marks. With this system you don’t. Fault free and fast.
Thank you. If not for this video I wouldn't know this exist. I always guess my saddle post height and play by the ear ( or butt). Now it's fixed.
Wohooo! Really glad it helped! Thank you for watching
Thanks for sharing. A good video.
Thank you glad you found it useful
Great work. Thanks
Many thanks for watching and so glad it helped
I was asking myself what is this Saddle Height Insert was for. I had the Brompton for a year and kept this insert n the drawers :D. Thank for the video.
Thanks for watching
We are pleased it shed some light on the ‘what’s this bit of plastic?’ question
Thank you! Great job!

Only just watched this video. The fringe looks cool. Love the outtakes. Clever item but I don’t think I will bother getting one for my 22 year old bike.
Thank you so much, I got OK at it with lock down.
