DELICIOUS MELBOURNE FOOD TOUR | Where to eat in Melbourne CBD and inner suburbs by ex-locals

- Melbourne is perfect for food lovers. We used to call Melbourne home, so in this 3 part series we’re taking you to some of our favourite restaurants and eateries plus checking out some new spots with seriously great food. These videos are based in the Melbourne CBD and the inner suburbs.
What we ate and where we ate it:
Pandan flan and pear and chocolate danish ($15) at Agathé Patisserie, 322 Coventry St (in the South Melbourne market), Melbourne. Open 8am to 4pm Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
1 x Coffee and 1 x hot chocolate ($10) at Clement Coffee, Unit 89, South Melbourne Market, Cecil St, South Melbourne. Open 6:30am to 4pm daily.
1 x Char Koay Teow ($16.14) at Lulu’s Char Koay Teow, 27-31 Hardware Lane, Melbourne CBD. Open Monday to Thursday 11am to 8pm and Friday and Saturday 11:00am to 8:30pm and Sunday 10:30am to 3:30pm
2 x Hainanese chicken rice sets ($29.90) at Gai Wong Chicken Rice Shop, 1/5-17 Flemington Rd, North Melbourne. Open Tuesday to Wednesday 11:30am to 8pm and Thursday to Saturday 11:30am to 9pm
2 x cheeseburgers, fries, 1 x beer and 1 x chinotto ($54.43) at Butchers Diner, 10 Bourke St, Melbourne. Open Tuesday to Thursday 12pm to midnight and Friday and Saturday 12pm to 1am.
NB: We used our credit card for payments and there was always approximately a 1%-1.5% charge for doing so. The prices above include the card charge.

Such a great food city. I still remember the Greek food we had at a restaurant in Melbourne's (rather large, I think) Greek community. Yum. I love pandan and I love pear, so you would have both had to give me a bite of those beautiful pastries. Thanks for the tour. 🙌😘

So it's 4am and I'm sitting here teleworking minding my own and having my coffee and begin watching you two. Then bam...Sheena bites into that pandan pastry...and I hear that crunch like you are sitting beside me. I had to get up and make, unfortunately, a bagel 🥯 😒 because it was all I had on hand! ( You are killing me over here!!!!) AND then you slap me with a cheeseburger with fries....guess what I'm having for lunch!❤ Big hugs 🫂 over here while I'm salivating.

Go to Parkmore in Melbourne and there is a dumpling shop inside the mall. Forgot the name though but it is the only dumpling shop inside that mall, and it's awesome!!!

As a retired Food Writer who has lived in Melbourne for the last 20 years I think I have earned the right to make the following comment respectfully. I think that Melbourne has to be careful of not just resting on its Parmas by catering almost exclusively to the 20/30 something still (relatively) fit and healthy population. Australia will within the next couple of decades be in the grip of a pandemic which will dwarf Covid - diabetes, high blood pressure, fatty liver disease and heart disease. All driven by the preponderance of sugar and high carb cuisines and the huge prevalence of processed and take away food. Surely there should be room in Melbourne's diverse culinary market for more and better plant based, organic and low carb eateries. After all Melbourne is only potentially a highly liveable city if you can manage to stay ALIVE!

Having been lucky enough to spend some of my earlier life in France, Agatha Patisserie - the best French patisserie in Melbourne (allegedly) is still only as good as any average Patisserie in any provincial town in France.
Handy for when you can’t travel to France easily though! 😄
