  • To prepare
Signature stamps, a round brush, a flat brush, a plate for ink, thin Korean papers (can be replaced with other thin paper that spreads well), used waste papers, a pressing stone (something that you can press to keep your paper from moving.), etc.
    1. Flower buds
Draw a circle with light ink.
When drawing the calyx, add a little more ink to make it darker.
    All flowers have different shapes.
It varies depending on the angle of view and the degree of a flower blooming.
A flower bud is like a circle, and the number of round petals increases as the flower blooms.
    2. A flower in full bloom
If you look at the flowers in full bloom from above, the stamens and pistils of the flowers will stand out the most.
Draw them one by one with a darker color than the color when you draw the petals.
I draw the petal with two brushes which is called “YangGuBup” in Korean. It means “2 half-round method”
If you want to know about brushing technics for drawing flowers please refer to the video linked above.
    3. Flowers from different angles
When drawing flowers in full bloom viewed from the side, try to express the stamens and pistils as if petals supported them.
The petals are like a calyx.
It is enough to draw only two petals, but you can draw more petals if you want a more abundant flower.
When drawing a flower diagonally viewed from a little lower, draw petals in the back in small size.
We can only see a part of it because the petals and stamens in the front cover them.
'Sumukdamchaehwa' is a traditional Korean ink painting technique painted through the brightness of ink, called 'Muk.' It is similar to a watercolor painting. But it is drawn with one brush without repeating.
In Asian cultures, black and white, which were not regarded as a color in the West, were recognized as colors. If you need a new meditation method, I recommend you try it.
