I'd like to see both sides of this story told... Section 8 tenants have a much higher rate of property damage, unauthorized residents, and complaints of criminal activity and domestic violence. Landlords are finding in many areas accepting section 8 vouchers puts their property in a rent controlled status. When there is a problem with a section 8 tenant, the housing authority either protects the tenant or does nothing at all. Who gets screwed?,... (as usual) the decent family. Who screwed them?,... (wait for it) NOT the landlord, but the idgits leeching the system, causing the landlord to stop accepting section 8 vouchers. Oh I know, it's all about race, right? Listen, landlords don't care what color your skin is as long as your money is green, paid on time, and you treat the property and your neighbors with respect.
Just came across this video, and your commentary. And here's my rebuttal. Amen you hit the nail right on the head. I myself can't see myself accepting sec. 8 anymore because of everything you said.
Correlation doesn’t mean causality. Many section 8 people can only live in poorer neighborhoods (since poor neighborhoods are more likely to accept it) poorer neighborhoods have higher crime rates. But then again, you can’t have criminal record and be part of the program since it disallows criminal felons. And becoming a felon would revoke your section 8. If their are unauthorized residents on a section 8 property, you can file a complaint with your housing authority office and they can get your eviction process started and their section 8 voucher can be revoked. There are many safety and standard protections that the program affords landlords.
Here in NY its illegal to deny a voucher holder from applying for an apartment so the management company requires all applicants to have a minimum credit score of 650 and a annnual income 40*the rent in addiition to 3-4 months rent up front. City hasn’t even paid The vouchers they were obligated to pay but they expect to crucify landlords for the 💩they created.
As someone who did a stint prepping section 8 apartments for new tenants at a relative's property, I can see why landlords _DON'T_ want to honor these vouchers anymore! Every single apartment I had to prep first required (nauseating) thorough clean out, sanitizing, repainting, replacement of appliances, fixtures, amenities, etc. - just to have another voucher tenant tear it all up again? _NO WAY!_ My relative stopped accepting vouchers, did not renew S8 leases, shut down his property when it was totally emptied, completely rehabbed everything, got some zoning changes, and went to market rent... It's been very much worth his while, and the City government people are off his back about all the trouble there was before!

Not all section 8 renters trash a place, just some bad apples do anytime which makes section 8 renters look bad and so owners assume all section renters do the same crap but they dont.
It isn't an eviction. It's called NOT renewing the lease. A difference. These News agencies are purposely using the 'E' word to make the apartment complex look mean. When you rent a car and the contract is up you can't demand to keep the car for another day. Or if you make a hotel reservation for 3 days you can't just decide to stay another day without approval. If someone else made reservations you must get out. How is it different with home rentals? If you agree to the12 months lease then one can't get mad if the landlord doesn't want to renew the lease. BTW, most of the time landlords do not want to use Section 8 Vouchers is because of government's own policies. Too much hassle
If you need to complain about the issue, go through your US Representative/Senator. HUD and housing authorities only pay attention to complaints that come in under Congressional letterhead.

Probably an early discharge..In any case the days of free housing for people who refuse to work is coming to an end
Someone needs to provide housing for these people but the only landlords that can afford free rent is State Govt and US Govt
Take a look at Public Housing in NYC and CHicago to find out how thats working
Have you checked out how the VA treats their veterans.
How cruel to make this woman actually stop depending on the government for her basic housing needs. But wait. Do the grandchildren have parents?
Exactly @Jimmy Day!!! Why is this grandmother raising and taking care of her grandchildren? Where is their grandfather? Winter is HERE ladies!
Grandmother and 3 grandchildren where is the mother and father of the children so why does the taxpayer have to give special consideration the mother father ain't doing nothing where are they I can see taking care of Grandmother as one person but now we have three kids living on taxpayers dollar Bull$___

Well in Atlanta Ga alot of apartments an houses are NOT taken the Section 8 Vouchers. My neighborhood got torn down so im homeless with a Section 8 voucher living with my Kids father until i find a place for me an the kids.
It used to be the norm for kids to live with both parents.
@@GreeneyedkittyNAllie Used to be while the kids watched the parents argue so much.
Just curious why is she taking care of three grandbabies where's the mothers and the fathers of these children
Everyone with vouchers aren't bad tenants that's a stigma that's associated with someone who has a Section 8 voucher though. Here in CA it's against the the law to refuse a person with a voucher so what they do to get around it is make the rent higher so that it doesn't meet HUD requirements.
All it takes is one nasty trifling tenant to ruin it for everybody🤷🏿♀️but how is it against the law to refuse, when it's MY property?

Why is a vet on welfare and taking care of grandkids? Where are the parents? Prison?
If she’s a vet, she should get in contact with organizations like Tunnels 2 Towers to help her find housing. They’re more willing to help vets than the VA is.

Look like it's happening all over because I'm in Memphis TN and facing the same thing with on where to go and I have until may 7 to be out
And, now she's got an eviction on her record
I didn't get that. I see that she was given X days to move out because her lease is not being renewed. That is not an eviction. And it certainly should not be held against her.
I’ve been on S8 for about 15 yrs., never was late paying my portion of the rent, never “trashed” an apartment nor broke walls absolutely nothing wrong in the places I’ve lived. this past April I was given a notice of Non Renewal Of Lease but when I told my case worker she mailed me an application for a brand new apartment in a nicer area (it wont completed until Aug this yr.
People getting refused is mainly the blacks that trash places. I don’t so they help me when I need them. It’s what you leave behind, the disrespect and trashy attitudes have got to go. Try asking your friends or neighbors or anyone renting without section 8 if they would be willing to fill out paperwork to turn their house into section 8 for you. I know it's alot of work. I did it and got lucky.
why is she raising her grandchildren??

It looks too nice to be section 8. Section 8 tenants will destroy property in no time.
Now all!
Not all section 8 renters trash a place, just some bad apples do anytime which makes section 8 renters look bad and so owners assume all section renters do the same crap but they dont.
stop being ignorant and stereotyping section 8 tenants .
@@cable30 No NOT ALL but the MAJORITY!
It’s pretty much all of them. Let’s keep it real
Even I never get section 8 when I apply
Now I need to thanks God this?😒

Felton ABSOLUTELY l live in Australia and we don't have anything remotely like section 8. You just wait your turn for public housing. And in parts of the country that can be a couple of decades. The fact that you only have to pay a tiny portion of the rent and get to live in a private apartment or house just don't get it. What's the incentive to work .
if nothing care be done if she has a car and a storage unit .she can live in her car for a while untill something comes open .it want be easy for her but at least she will have a roof over her head and a place to sleep for the short term.as i see her problem right now that maybe her only choice.
I've lived in my car many times to save on rent even when bringing my wife and daughter up from Guatemala. I bought a camper to live in until buying a mobile home. If this woman was a soldier then she should have what it takes to survive without government handouts although I can understand help from a food bank or maybe snap benefits.
If she’s taking care of her grandkids, social services would probably have something to say about them living in her car.

HUD needs to end Housing First. Junkies burn down low income housing
OMG! I REALLY hope you read my comment. ABSOLUTELY agree with you about housing first. The very idea. I lived in a housing first property here in Australia. And l had some junkie mental case living above me for 8 years my life was a living he'll to say the least. The noise he would make through the night was intolerable. But as soon as l made a complaint they would be on his side ABSOLUTELY 💯 every single time. Went through court paid for lawyers was hospitalised 12 times has 2 suicide attempts. Finally after 8 years they moved me somewhere appropriate. But now the next victim is living there. I have self harm marks that l will have to look at for the rest of my life.
