This makes tenants pay $200. The rest can be used for food and clothing in a place like Goodwill.
I am so thankful for my Big Mama, who in 1945, after spending her childhood and much of her young adulthood working as a domestic, purchased what we now call our old family home. She instilled a strong work ethic in her children and grandchildren. She only had an elementary school education, but took pride in having her kids and grandkids well educated. And she drilled into all her girls to work even if they didn't have to, so they could have their own money. She would always sit her grands and great grands down and talk about work and education. She tried to talk me out of buying a house, giving reasons like if I continued apartment living I could just call maintenance when something broke. She literally couldn't understand Pride of ownership, freedom to live as I want, ability to change and customize as I saw fit. I was so stunned, I started to distance myself from her. She actually basically told me I was foolish for wanting my own home.
She was really jealous. I know people like her. They will criticize and try to convince you not to do something that they wish they could do.

But later I heard she told someone she didn't know what I thought I needed all that house for, and I probably wouldn't be able to keep it long. Well, this August will be 25 years. And her ass is still in an apartment.
@@brownsuga6654 I agree with Fay Bury, anybody who's that pressed about a positive choice you're making that's not hurting anybody is definitely jealous/envious. Misery loves company. "and I probably wouldn't be able to keep it long." --- this sounds like someone was projecting. She knew SHE couldn't keep a house like that for long.
@A Matt Thank you so much. You're right. I wonder why some people have to be so miserable? If they tried to do better with the same energy that they use to hate and envy others, maybe they could have some of those things they envy.
That’s right you haven’t done anything
Kevin Samuels warned the younger women about this. “Winter is coming”
Miss the Godfather......
Why we got to move out?
I AIN'T DONE A THING!
Exactly....you haven't done a damn thing in the last 20 years!!
Y’all are quick to judge people on section 8, but what about corporate welfare? All of the continuous bailouts from greed.
Corporations have employees that rely on the jobs provided by the corporation.
Why are you on section 8 for 10 years?
Could be because of a disability. And they are not able to work..
“I ain’t did nothing”. “I ain’t did a thing”. That right there is why you are on section eight.
Section 8 is voluntary. There are reasons why it’s voluntary.
Pay your rent!!
Notice of non-renewal isn't the same as eviction. How long does one stay on section 8? The program isn't designed for you to stay on it into retirement/old age. The program is designed for you to get out of it by buying with your voucher (of course, some may not be able to buy without proper preparation). At some point, if your finances won't allow you to do so, then it's time to do something about increasing your skills, job prospects and earning so you can save. Each time these stories pop up in the news, I always wonder what people have and haven't been doing to change their situation. They keep relying on the government instead of working and using what they provide to step up and out of a situation.
Very insensitive comment. You should be ashamed but I'm sure you're not.
@@blackcherry6877 damn right I'm not...
@@msaubra6775 you're just jealous because you can't get the assistance and you live in a roach-infested studio apartment in a terrible neighborhood, hahaha😂
I call it the “why me” syndrome. Its a result of poor parenting: remember the baby crying in the crib? To cry= immediate action on the cryee’s behalf- the louder and more urgent- the more hurried resolution might be. Then, as this was the ONLY skill his/her “mother” imparted: scream and cry to get “stuff”. NO-ZERO attention was EVER payed when these sad sack “mothers” were growing up. For a vast majority Self reliance and working are definitely seen as loser activity in this community
These free loaders will have to figure it out now. And if people want free or reduced housing, they should have to live domitory style. They get one room and a shared bath and kitchen.
The complex I'm in sent out a email yesterday saying they are no longer accepting section 8 and there is hardy anywhere to go in Atlanta.
They're doing this all across the board.
Time to get a job or skills to get a better job. Section 8 needs to be shut down, it's abused.
It really doesn’t matter the reason for the owners decision. They can do what they want with their property.
I got the hell out of Biscayne now called Beacon Ridge. That place and it’s BLACK management is the worse property managers ever. This place constantly changes owners and property managers! The tenants don’t realize it’s a blessing in disguise. When they kicked me out in 2021, I moved to Los Angeles and haven’t looked back. I was there from 2016 to 2021 while working on my PhD at Clark Atlanta. I had to constantly complain about crime, rats, roaches, management, loud music/noise and South Fulton Police who are worthless.
Sounds like section 8 housing to me.
@@rangerchief8004 It was mixed income housing with 30% Section 8. They accepted Section 8 and other governmental programs.
education is paramount
Never get comfortable living in something you don't own.
Pay your bills like the rest of us. No pitty here
Time to get that J.O.B 😮
These people should take the opportunity to leave Atlanta with their vouchers. I saw some woman living in Hawaii because they wouldn't take her vouchers in her home state
stop giving out dumb advice.
@@wb1738 I have no idea. I just saw the story somewhere
Georgia should be so lucky to have these girls leave the State - talk about the DUMBEST of the DUMB……..😂
You've been living free for years and could have been working but not paying rent. Your day has come
These women are an embarrassment!!
I KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO EVENTUALLY HAPPEN, YOU CANT LEAVE IT UP TO THE GOVERNMENT TO FIGURE IT OUT FOR YOU, THEY CAN PULL THE RUG FROM UNDER YOUR FEET ANYTIME
I don't live in America but how the hell are you allowed to stay in government supported housing for ever. It should be for a couple of years till you get your together 😮 THEY SOUND VERY UNEDUCATED
That's the problem YOU'VE HAVEN'T DONE A THING 🤬 DECADES OF SECTION 8 WHILE HARD WORKERS PAY THIER FULL SHARE AND MOST OF YOURS 😡☹️ GOV DOESN'T HAVE FREE MONEY WE THE TAX PAYERS ARE THE ONES PAYING THE BILLS‼️
Preach!!!
Every time I here a horror story it's usually out of Georgia quite interesting! So sad!
Section 8 just like minimum wage is not suppose to be lived on....its A HELPING HAND ANS A STARTING POINT.
I hope they get the help they need.
From who? Fed up landlords or the tax payers? How about you help them?
Walmart Needs You!
This sounds like a no fault eviction.
Atlanta is a landlord friendly state. I've been a landlord since 05 I've had very little problems.
They are probably being evicted because their children are probably bringing in crime
So sad that some can't find it in their heart to support themselves.
Maybe they know they're not worth it?
So do they now have an eviction on their record?🙁
Said it before...I'll say it again....landlords ARE NOT CHARITIES...get used to it. If THEY don't want to accept the govt voucher...then THAT is THEIR prerogative and choice.
Well the opposite happened to me.
Mixed income. New owner decided to make the whole property section 8, that means a huge tax break.
Market owners are now having to move in a terrible time to move.
It’s awful when it happens to anyone.
60 days isn’t legal. Usually it’s 120 days
and hopefully the court will allow them more time.
Im a landlord in Atlanta. Its 60 days.
Its 60 days notice in Florida. Please look into your state laws.
10 day notice in PA
360+ in NY
Lets state the facts. Section 8 is straight up gravy, most vouchers give you a free apartment and your copay can be as low as $20 a month. Landlords like it too because they know they will get rent. And yet some people get approved and are idiots, they wreck their apartments.... bring in pets and ruin the carpets, cause disturbances, renig on the small copay or make themselves so disagreeable the landlord ends up filing for eviction or they lose their voucher. If you land Sec 8 and mess it up its your own fault. Case closed.
There never should have been a section 8 program.
Not even for those who are disabled???
section 8 was not meant to be a forever gig. Move on
