    brought two releases from my local HMV during the current sale, Bottle Rocket and Risky Business, the latter is definitely an improvement on the previous Warner Bros. bluray especially in the audio, just wished the "sale" included all Criterion UK releases and not just a select few, these special editions are expensive in the UK and not often on sale.

    The Mother and the Whore is an event and thank God Criterion aren't delaying the U.K release. Performance is a masterpiece too. But until The Devils is ever released, it's is the only film people really want from Criterion and, yes, I'm well aware of its history on home media. Drugstore Cowboy is great too. I have a Spanish blu of it from DVD Spain. Saw it when it opened in 1990- still holds up. King Lear was a Cannon Film/MGM starring Molly Ringwald. The contract for the film was made on the back of a napkin in a hotel at the Cannes Film Festival between Godard and the heads of Cannon, Golan and Globus back in 1984/5

    I wasn't a huge fan of Crossing Delancey but I've watched three Joan Micklin Silver films this year and loved them all, so I'm hoping with this announcement and previously Chilly Scenes of Winter being released, others will be coming into the collection. The three films I watched were The Fish In The Bathtub, Between The Lines, and Hester Street! Perhaps I'll like/appreciate Crossing Delancey more on a rewatch now that I'm a bit more familiar with her work.

    This was the best month Criterion's had all year. Why not track down some of these films before the CC discs drop so you can talk about them in the announcement vids? I know Elliot isn't a critic but ya know... for the sake of staying informed. For what it's worth, Drugstore Cowboy is on Tubi. Also, why do y'all want more PT Anderson movies on Criterion? You know those movies will get 4k discs with or without inclusion in the CC. Leave room for the movies that ain't even on DVD/blu yet.

    • @GuarmaRummy
      @GuarmaRummy 28 дней назад

      @@themtgdude486 I can explain! It's because that one is a beloved Godard film (he's a big director, google him lol) and the film has never been available on a R1 DVD in North America. That's the point of Criterion, making hard to get films available in high def... not just to release popular films that are already on blu-ray. Hopefully that helps with your head scratching issue.

    Australia's Imprint label released a Blu-ray of Drugstore Cowboy in 2021. It's been a couple of yerars now, but I recall it looking much better than my ancient dvd. It's meant to have a grainy look too it, so you don't want it too clean. I'll wait for the reviews before I decide; the extras don't look too different, so I may give the new version a shot. I am really looking forward to Performance. I watched it for the first time in 2020 and loved it. The extras look far more extensive than on the Warner's archive. I love Punch Drunk Love, but it gets expensive upgrading, so I'll pass. I did enjoy Crossing Delancy when I saw it upon release and I may get it because I am a big fan of Joan Micklin Silver's earlier films, especially Hester Street.

    Would rather Roeg's Bad Timing got a release, the film hasn't ever had a BluRay release in the US & the UK BluRay, which I have, that was put out by Network, is subpar & also out-of-print. Can't complain about Performance mind, Roeg is my favourite filmmaker after all. Crossing Delancey is a great surprise though. Your typical 'girl wants the charismatic handsome womaniser over the dependable, kind but rather unexciting & average looking other guy' bittersweet romance. It's well written though & 80's NYC plays as great backdrop, the city is practically a character in itself.

    *** SPOILERS *** I watched all of them in a row after the announcement and I was underwhelmed as well. The only one I’m getting is:
    _Punch-Drunk Love_ (2002) because I related to it as someone on the spectrum.
    _Drugstore Cowboy_ (1989) was good all-around, I love Gus Van Sant, but I’m not enticed to see it again.
    _Performance_ (1970) was a little too disorienting for me to stay fully engaged and I don’t think Mick Jagger is the best actor.
    _King Lear_ (1987) is probably Jean-Luc Godard’s worst film as I found it pretentious and absurdly dull.
    _Crossing Delancey_ (1988) was an okay romantic comedy, though I’m biased towards rom coms.
    _Cronos_ (1993) was engaging at first, despite the low budget and terrible acting, but it lost all that potential with a reductive second half.
