This is when New Edition came back together in the mid-late 90's with all 6 members although the group went through a lot of drama during this reunion the album "Home Again" is a classic!
It came out near No diggitty and Toss it Up that's why it got that sound.
One of my favorite albums all time
This song was recorded and released in 1996.
By then they had reunited after a long time.
I like the song because everyone showcases they're singing and rapping abilities.
Word to the Mutha by Bell Biv Devoe but Ralph, Johnny, and Bobby are there. You won't be disappointed. They all have a long, tumultuous history of back and forth and it's always a treat to see them all together.
Don't forget, Ronnie and Mike was doing all the rapping in BBD
Ronnie and Mike were always doing the main raps/talking parts in all of NE and BBD.

So here's the thing: This video was a HUGE deal because it was the first released song from their 1996 comeback album, Home Again. And that album was the first time all 6 members recorded together (not including a one-off remix to a BBD song). By this point, all of their solo careers had stalled so the reunion was really both financially necessary, but also culturally massive.
Bobby and Ricky sing the first verse, Johnny and Ralph sing the second, and Ronnie and Mike have rap verses. The album, Home Again, is an interesting one because it had to balance each of the individual members solo sounds AND still recapture the NE magic. That's how you get this song, which is very much rooted in an updated New Jack Swing sound which Bobby pioneered and BBD perfected. There has been NO other group to spin off so many successful offshoots - Bobby, Johnny and Ralph had multiplatinum albums and BBD's first album was a massive hit. So when all 6 members reunited it was a HUGE deal, but also incredibly creatively challenging. That they pulled it off - the album is FIRE - is unprecedented.
get into the second single from this album "I'm Still in Love With You" where Ricky and Ralph handle leads and Ricky straight MURDERS the song.
Again Jack, this is what happens when you put these groups off for months, you forget who everybody is! (see Im scared for you to do En Vogue again when you get around to it in 10yrs lol) Come on man, see that's why Ima always be pushing for these groups on you cause I want you to know them. So as a refresher for New Edition, Everybody in the group raps except for Ricky & Johnny (Ricky shared the 1st verse with Bobby) the 2 you heard rapping here are the main rappers of the group (Ronnie & Mike) and remember Bell Biv Devoe is Ricky, Mike, & Ronnie.

AFTER all that I recommend their 1990 MTV VMA's reunion, that was HUGE and 1 of their best performances and the very 1st time all 6 men performed on stage together.
I think New Edition is a uniquely amazing group for no other reason than no other one group or band can tour as five separate acts, all five having at least one hit.

This was in the mid 90's when record companies spent millions on expensive videos for their artists. It was a great era that I miss, lol.
When Bobby left, there were only 4 members. Later they asked Johnny Gill to join them. Ralph Tresvant left and went solo. Johnny left to pursue his second solo career. Ricky Bell, Michael Bivens and Ronnie DeVoe formed a group - Bell Biv DeVoe or BBD for short. When NE got back together, they later asked Bobby to join. 6 members now. Do BBD's "Poison''.

So, Bobby, Ralph, Johnny and Ricky took lead on this, Ronnie and Mike Rapped. John Legends wife, Crissy Tiegen, is the model in the gold dress who was sitting in the booth with Johnny in the beginning of the video. And the video is not from a movie, its just a very well made, creative and entertaining piece of Art 😊

3 of the N.E. members had a smaller group: Michael Bivins, Ricky Bell & Ronnie Devoe AKA "Bell Biv Devoe" with awesome hip hop songs. You would like their song "Poison". Ralph Tresvant also had a solo career. His songs "Stone Cold Gentlemen" & "Sensitivity" are really good. You should really take a listen. 💕
Bobby was the founding member of New Edition; so, he was there at the beginning. He got fired/left the group for a solo career in the 80s and was replaced by Johnny Gill. Bobby Brown is in this video because the group decided to do a reunion tour. There are a few branches that stem from the New Edition tree. There's the original N.E. (Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, Mike and Ralph). After Bobby left, Johnny Gill joined. Then, Ralph and Johnny each recorded solo albums...while Ronnie, Rick and Mike formed the group, Bell Biv Devoe (aka "BBD"). In BBD, Rick sang while Ronnie and Mike did some rapping. Multi-talented. Oh yeah. How could I forget to mention their flawless dance routines?

Remember that Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill were the two main singers of New Edition; Bobby on the other hand, solo parts on such songs as "hit me off" enabled him to showcase his singing ability thus, enabling him to pursue a short solo career.

I think it's cuz you reacted to all the vids of them in their teens which was ages ago. So the sound will be different. You should check out when they first came back as a group after their solo careers "WORD TO THE MUTHA". All the members are in that song and it's a 90's song so it'll have an updated sound. Their choreography will be the same for most vids too bcuz they are still managed by Ronnie's uncle who was directing choreography for them too as a collective

All six united. The tour was cool, them Blackstreet, and Kieth Sweat. The tour blew up about halfway through, because Bobby was a mess at the time. Bobby was taking way too much time for his ever increasing solo set, Ronnie tried to physically take him off stage, and Bobby slammed him. Both crews pulled guns, and half the group left the tour. That being said, this was their best album as a group by far.
That was Ronnie and Mike rapping who are also in New Edition .
Songs that you would absolutely love include What Would You Do by City High, Tell Me What You Want Me To Do by Tevin Campbell, Never Keeping Secrets by Babyface, and Let it Go by Keyshia Cole.
