Thank you for such a kind comment. My aim was to make this software easier for others as I know the painful journey I took not just with the software but learning 3D from scratch. It's a huge learning curve and 3D (not just CAD) is hard full stop. I hope to bring more of the understanding of 3D modeling to these tutorials not just freeCAD

At 6:15, you have described how to make the dots in Sketcher WB larger. Only after changing this setting did I realize what relief it brings to my eyes!
Likewise, I would like to change the size of the constraints in Sketcher WB.
(I am using Ondsel with OpenDark theme, which is fantastic. But it is strainful to look at the constraints. Hence the need!)

Where did the Measure Linear tool go to? In 0.21.2 with Part & Part Design there is a pull down menu for "MEASURE" but appears to be gone in 0.22.2! Please show me where it was moved to?

Thank you for this Darren. Do you know if there is a single file in which these settings reside and if so, can it be personalised in a setting where the installation is shared by a number of users? FreeCAD is installed on our Men's Shed computer and having a quick way for users to update their own interface would be really useful.
Glad to help. On windows user.cfg and system.cfg in the %APPDATA%\FreeCAD directory. Linux /home/USERNAME/.local/share/FreeCAD user.cfg and system.cfg Mac it's /Users/USERNAME/Library/Preferences/FreeCAD Also this may help with multiple configs. It's a bit old (0.19) but I think it can be adapted mangojellysolutions.blogspot.com/2023/01/using-multiple-configurations-in-freecad.html

So what size do you make the line width and vertex size in shape appearance instead of 2?
The sketcher is super frustrating to deal with as the constraints are fixed and I cannot change the lengths at all. I tried looking through preferences and there is not such option to change that. Where am I going wrong?
Thank you for posting these lessons. However, I just downloaded Freecad 2 days ago. This video is only 10 days old. Your settings selections are NOTHING like the version that I downloaded. This is difficult to follow for beginner because I have to keep searching different pages of settings to find what you are talking about. How new is your version?
The video is for the developer version 0.22. Is that the one you downloaded or do you have the 0.21 version from the main site?

@@Th3_Gael My understanding is that this tutorial is for the developer version 0.22 only. Version 0.22 is due to be released as version 1.0 some time in the (near) future. It is very different from 0.21.

My guess is that it's something to do with the program he's using to record the screen, and not Freecat.

Will you be explaining differences between Ondsel and FreeCAD? I presume your training pertains to both?
That would be good material for lesson 1 (one of the reasons why I have done up to lesson 8 (on patreon at the moment but releasing over these weeks) but no lesson 1. I am collecting questions to answer in the intro :) My training can be used for both, same workflow and tools but the UI will be different look / feel.
May be good to explain basic terminology in lesson 1 too. With examples.
FreeCAD 0.22 is out?
He's likely using the test build, the official branch is still 0.21
Lesson one in this series shows how to install the development version he is using.

7:14 That is really thing that in perspective rendering, measurements are not accurate ... why it is like that if you are measuring in digital world ? It should be accurate no matter what.

Hi, thank you for the kind comments, glad your enjoying. The playlist this is connected to has the video for downloading the weekly builds which is version 0.22 but will be rebadge as version 1 (out mid July). Lesson 1 doesn't exist as of yet as I have decided to see what questions come up regarding the series. One of which was the question: Will the previous learning freeCAD become obsolete. Which it wouldn't be but there would be some differences as you can use the new dimensioning tools in the sketcher and the UI will look different. I want to roll these questions into the introduction video as I feel it would make it more beneficial (and there will be a few videos out for people to get a flavor of what the course is like)

I have subscribed your channel right now with one of my main account (Milleporte) because I really appreciate your work, is detailed and solve the problems without skipping any relevant passage (that prove your skills and competence).. just some final considerations (hope to be useful for all):
1. just yesterday I became aware of the existence of " *ONDSEL* ".. what do you think about, is it worth it?
2. in this video (search "MakerMuse Ondsel") Freecad has been blamed for its two main weak point: the *UI* and the naming topology problem (other software are more forgiving and informative about errors).. for all you know, why Freecad Foundation doesn't invest in a better, more user friendly *and appealing* UI (after many years still that default horrible purple gradient background)?
3. I would like to see more solutions based *on a mirror/array workflow* , I hope to see more of this..
Final thoughts: do you have some community, discord, telegram channel and similar? Do you have a Udemy course?

Don't worry, the old course is still more than valid. This will be modelling different things compared to the other one, it's not a repeat of anything modelled in the first one. It's a different learning experience as well. II haven't done the intro yet as I want to gauge people's reactions and include in the intro. You have already given me something I need to include in the intro 👍👍👍👍
...yes don't panic....I sometimes go and look at very old videos...but still valid from the construction point, the programme itself has been made to have a more functional work flow...but the most important lesson is how we build the model in our head first...
Lesson 2?
I knew that would confuse a few people :). Haven't done lesson 1, the intro and download yet. I have done a download video for version 0.22 and included it in the playlist but for the intro I wanted to get a few reactions first so I can add to the intro video. One reaction was 'Will the 0.21 Beginners FreeCAD course be obsolete' so I want to say how it won't be but the sketcher has better dimensioning tools which you would use instead.
@@MangoJellySolutions I can't see version on their website. I've seen their wiki page, and it claims version 1.0 is due out in July
