2023 Polestar 2 AWD Performance - POV Review

I recently got to drive a Polestar 2 around for half a day and was blown away. I'm an electric car skeptic and it was my first experience with one and it really felt like the future.

@@GregO236 had one of the first model 3 models available here. The negatives for me are mostly caused by they way I use my car. I drive between 30.000-40.000km a year. The advertised 560k of range at that time turned out to be 300km of practical range due to being on highway a lot. The constant charging is a pain in the ass to put it mildly and not much cheaper anymore than a gas car.
Additionally the Tesla build quality is horrendously bad. Nothing on this car adds up and everything is crooked.
A lot of my colleagues drive electric and they are facing the same issues and annoyances and will also get rid of their cars when they can. The colleagues with the polestar complain about the infotainment being very slow and unresponsive.
Not sure if the newer models have solved such issues.
For me such cars just aren't of any use. I'll get my 330e next month and already know that will be best for me.

I really liked how you reviewed this car! This POV alignment is perfect, the order you showed us the parts of the car was interesting, too. There were not many cuts, so it felt so much real than other reviews. And the sound quality was so great, like I could tell exactly how quiet this car is, how much you can hear the wind, the potholes. This video for some weird reason gave me a really unique vibe

If you're thinking about buying one. Either get a good deal on a slightly used one or buy the refresh MY2024- instead. Improved battery, motors and efficiency. Also charges at 205kW instead of 150kW max. They are also now RWD based.

The range is so much better now. There was a range test in Norway just about a month or two ago and the longest range version 2024 Polestar 2 was the only car in the test in addition to a Tesla Model S that got over 600km of practical range.

You can now get the 2024 Polestar 2 in Canada. They are similar priced to a Tesla 3 model for model if you order, but currently if you buy inventory with Tesla 3 they are heavily discounted. Range is somewhat similar as well. They both are crappy Online experiences trying to purchase and they don’t give very good trade values…

I just had one of these as a rental and hell yeah it was sweet!
I had a rollout with some chill dude in a modified Camaro and this thing won!
Btw pro tip, if you rent early, these cars are usually the same rental price as everything else because people don't know about electrics 😉

A major downside to the Polestar is that only Polestar service centers can service it, not Volvo dealerships. At least, this is the case in the US, I confirmed this with a Polestar rep. Polestar doesn’t have very many service centers.

I'm told that as long as the Volvo have Polestar certified mechanics, they will service a Polestar. Luckily my local Volvo is certified with Polestar. But the Polestar dealer is actually only about 15 minutes more away.

I have never liked EVs, but even when this first came out it was one of the few I though "well if I HAD to I could be happy with that one". Even a few years on this thing looks so much better to my eyes than a Model 3 I really cannot understand how anyone could choose the Tesla over this. This looks muscular and aggressive vs. the soft organic femininity of the Model 3, with paint and interior quality miles better than any Tesla I've ever seen. Is it really just the range and the Supercharging why people buy a Model 3 over this? Other than that I don't see it at all.

Model 3 is much cheaper, more efficient and some people don’t care about looks as much as you. Personally, I think the next gen Polestar 2 will be much more improved and Model 3 refresh is also coming this year. Gotta love competition!

I agree on the looks, and if that were the only thing, it would be a winner probably, but numerous other factors come into play to explain the Model 3's dominance over the Polestar 2-
From the model 3's lower relative price, faster acceleration, earlier availability (the model 3 was available like 3-4 years before the polestar 2), much wider availability, access to a superior charging network (Though Polestar is also going to start using NACS soon apparently).
Can't speak to the audio system or driving dynamics however.

I got a model 3 cause it’s cheaper, the features are good, has a better charge network. Range and power was also better for the spec I was getting. I looked at polestars, and loved the textures and interior, but considering that I wasn’t trying to get a new car, but needed one because my last one got destroyed, I got what was cheaper and more economical. I didn’t really want the 3 at first, but after seeing it in person and driving it, I was actually impressed.

It is not the pano roof that is causing the heat, it's the other SIX windows!! Once those are tinted, it's fine. We live in Miami and the pano roof is not the issue!!

After nearly 3 hours of testing my GoPro 9 Black that was the only way I could get the dash digital gauges on my GR Corolla to not flicker/flash. As a Tesla owner I think the Polestar is very underrated EV. It looks good drives good, overall just solid. I just don’t think Volvo is really advertising the car to its fullest at this point like Ford and Hyundai did with their EVs

Pedantic gripe, but I hate it when lift backs, SUVs, and hatchbacks have those bulky solid cargo covers. No good place to store them usually and gets in the way when you load stuff. Everything should have a rolling fabric cover with a place to store it in the subfloor like some cars do. But even if you didn’t have a dedicated place to store it, it’s still easy to put it out of the way in cars like the Civic hatch or Ioniq Hybrid.

Why? Build quality is Volvo build quality. Longevity? Maybe the EV part. Not the car part. The "inflated" price has to do with the Polestar tuning and if you are familiar with Volvo Polestar or Volvo Polestar Engineered, you always pay a premium for Polestar tuning.

Also the Polestar just like other Electric vehicles came with annoyingly bugged software, had it in the workshop almost every 3 months due to outside speaker breaking, antenna to unlock the car broke, a software that ran the 12 volt battery flat so couldnt unlock. The seat cushion got worn off after 3 months and the seat was extremely hard. And in the end i am too tall for this huge middle console.
Great car when it comes to driving if you dont use the lane assist which is also bullshit, even Volvo has a decent lane assist. So disappointed but i am sure they will come back with even greater cars in the future, they have just recently started
